Emergency Department Administration of Oxycodone by Nurses Treating Musculoskeletal Pain: An Observational Prospective.

BACKGROUND: Acute musculoskeletal pain is one of the most commonly reported symptoms among patients visiting the emergency department (ED). Treatment with over-the-counter pain medications, given by nurses, results in improved pain management and reduces the waiting time to drug administration without significant side effects. Opioid analgesics are extensively used for acute pain in the ED. Compared to morphine, oxycodone has a much more specific pharmacological activity, higher analgesic potential, and more tolerable side effects. OBJECTIVES: To assess the degree of pain reduction using diff

Specialized emergency nurses treating ankle and foot injuries: a randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: To cope with emergency departments (EDs) being progressively overcrowded, the concept of specialized emergency nurses (SENs) was conceived. In this study, the ability of SENs to treat ankle/foot injuries was assessed. METHODS: Regular emergency nurses were trained in a 2-day session that addressed all aspects of ankle/foot injuries. A randomized controlled trial was set up in which the diagnostic accuracy of SENs was compared with that of house officers (HOs). Secondary outcome parameter was patient satisfaction measured by a standardized questionnaire. RESULTS: In total, 512 cons

Emergency Nursing Assessment in a Patient With a Hand Arteriovenous Fistula Caused by a Fishbone: A Case Report.

Traumatic arteriovenous fistulas, accounting for most cases (approximately 82%-98%), are typically the consequence of penetrating injuries. The ulnar and radial arteries are the most common sites of occurrence, whereas incidents at the distal radial and ulnar arteries are rare. This emphasizes the critical role of systematic clinical reasoning when evaluating patients with unclear or atypical presentations. Emergency nurses play a vital role in recognizing red flags, escalating care, and advocating for further investigation when standard treatments fail. A previously healthy 55-year-old woman

Nursing Caring Behaviors in Slovenian Emergency Departments Under High Workload Conditions: A Cross-Sectional Comparative Study of Patient and Nurse Perspectives.

Background/Objectives: Caring behaviors are key components of nursing practice and contribute to patient outcomes and satisfaction. In emergency departments (EDs), where care is delivered under time pressure, caring behaviors may be shaped by organizational constraints. Patients and nurses may perceive caring behaviors differently. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and evaluate the psychometric properties of the CBI-24 and CBI-24-P for use in Slovenian EDs, assess the level of caring behaviors among ED nurses, examine differences in perception between nurses and patients, and ex
