Time-temperature superposition principle for the kinetic analysis of destabilization of pharmaceutical emulsions.

The time-temperature superposition principle (TTSP) was applied to the destabilization kinetics of a pharmaceutical emulsion. The final goal of this study is to predict precisely the emulsion stability after long-term storage from the short-period accelerated test using TTSP. As the model emulsion, a cream preparation that is clinically used for the treatment of pruritus associated with chronic kidney disease was tested. After storage at high temperatures ranging from 30 to 45 °C for designated periods, the emulsion state was monitored using magnetic resonance imaging, and then the phase separ

Effect of sodium alginate on the stability of natural soybean oil body emulsions.

In this work, the influence of an anionic polysaccharide, sodium alginate (ALG), on the stability of soybean oil body (OB) emulsions under different environmental conditions, including NaCl, pH and freeze-thaw cycling, was studied by analyzing the particle electric charge, particle size and distribution, and using optical and fluorescence microscopy. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) showed that the proteins on the surface of oil bodies were mainly oleosins. It was found that ALG can be adsorbed to the surface of oil bodies by strong electrostatic interaction

Pickering-type water-in-oil-in-water multiple emulsions toward multihollow nanocomposite microspheres.

Multihollow hydroxyapatite (HAp)/poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nanocomposite microspheres were readily fabricated by solvent evaporation from a "Pickering-type" water-in-(dichloromethane solution of PLLA)-in-water multiple emulsion stabilized with HAp nanoparticles. The multiple emulsion was stabilized with the aid of PLLA molecules used as a wettability modifier for HAp nanoparticles, although HAp nanoparticles did not work solely as particulate emulsifiers for Pickering-type emulsions consisting of pure dichloromethane and water. The interaction between PLLA and HAp nanoparticles at the oil-wat

Influence of different intravenous lipid emulsions on hepatobiliary dysfunction in a rabbit model.

OBJECTIVES: Long-term total parenteral nutrition (TPN) in children is often complicated by the development of cholestasis, liver fibrosis, and liver failure. High doses of intravenous lipids may be involved in the pathogenesis of hepatobiliary dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of 2 newly developed lipid emulsions could reduce liver damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three groups of prepubescent rabbits received TPN including a lipid emulsion either based on soybean oil, olive oil, or soybean oil with n-3 fatty acids added. Enterally fed animals served as cont

In vitro influence of parenteral lipid emulsions on the respiratory burst of neutrophils.

The in vitro effect of a fish oil-derived lipid emulsion (omega-3) on the superoxide anion production during the respiratory burst (RB) of human neutrophils was compared to a LCT lipid (Intralipid), and an LCT/MCT emulsion (Lipofundin MCT). The effects of two concentrations (60 and 600 micrograms/mL) were evaluated by rhodamine in a flow cytometer. The RB was induced either by stimulation with Escherichia coli (E. coli) or by priming with TNF-alpha and FMLP stimulation. The results (mean +/- SD%, P < 0.05) were compared to positive control responses (RB without lipids). omega-3 (60 micrograms/

Stable perfluorocarbon emulsions using XMO-10 as surfactant: potential oxygen-carrying plasma expanders.

XMO-10, a perfluorocarbon surfactant produced emulsions of a perfluorocarbon (Perfluorotripropylamine, FTPA) in vitro which were stable at a range of temperatures for at least 5 days. Most of the emulsion particles were smaller than 1 micron, and all emulsion particles were of these dimensions when the emulsification mixture included 2% lecithin. XMO-10 produced more stable emulsions with smaller particles than did PF68, a widely-used emulsifying agent. XMO-10 was toxic to cells in culture but this toxicity was reduced or abolished when the XMO-10 was emulsified with perfluorocarbon. XMO-10 an

Effects of chlorogenic acid on the interfacial properties and physical stability of sunflower oil body emulsions: Insights from a reconstructed protein-emulsion model.

The stability of sunflower oil body emulsions is mainly governed by interfacial phospholipids and proteins, whereas the role of endogenous polyphenols remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on physical stability. Reconstructed oil body proteins (ROBPs) and emulsions (ROBEs) were used as model systems. CGA decreased β-turn content from 43.06% in 0 mg-CGA-ROBPs to 26.50% in 38 mg-CGA-ROBPs. For ROBPs, as CGA addition increased from 0 to 38 mg, the emulsifying activity index increased from 27.91 to 77.32 m2/g and the emulsion stability index from 11.04

Modelling and optimising of physicochemical features of walnut-oil beverage emulsions by implementation of response surface methodology: effect of preparation conditions on emulsion stability.

The major purpose of this study is to apply response surface methodology to model and optimise processing conditions for the preparation of beverage emulsions with maximum emulsion stability and viscosity, minimum particle size, turbidity loss rate, size index and peroxide value changes. A three-factor, five-level central composite design was conducted to estimate the effects of three independent variables: ultrasonic time (UT, 5-15 min), walnut-oil content (WO, 4-10% (w/w)) and Span 80 content (S80, 0.55-0.8). The results demonstrated the empirical models were satisfactorily (p < 0.0001) fitt

Hepatocellular integrity after parenteral nutrition: comparison of a fish-oil-containing lipid emulsion with an olive-soybean oil-based lipid emulsion.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Parenteral nutrition including lipids might be associated with liver disease. The cause leading to parenteral nutrition-related liver dysfunction remains largely unknown but is likely to be multifactorial. The study was performed to assess the effects of a lipid emulsion based on soybean oil, medium-chain triglycerides, olive and fish oil (SMOFlipid20%) compared with a lipid emulsion based on olive and soybean oil on hepatic integrity. METHODS: In a prospective, randomized, double-blinded trial, 44 postoperative patients with an indication for parenteral nutrition we

Revealing the synergistic mechanism of ionic strength and cassava starch-lauric acid complexes in driving the transition of myofibrillar protein emulsion to emulsion gel.

The synergistic effects of ionic strength and cassava starch-lauric acid complexes (CS-LA) concentration on the emulsifying and gelling properties of myofibrillar proteins (MPs) were investigated. At low ionic strength, dispersion was promoted and ζ-potential increased by CS-LA, whereas excessive aggregation and larger particles were induced by 2.0% CS-LA. At high ionic strength, MPs were dispersed into monomers or oligomers, leading to the exposure of hydrophobic sites and facilitated binding with CS-LA. The emulsion containing 1.0% CS-LA exhibited optimal emulsifying activity and storage sta

Effects of pre-emulsion prepared using sucrose esters with different hydrophile-lipophile balances on characteristics of soy protein isolate emulsion films.

The preparation of emulsion films using pre-emulsification has received extensive attention due to the enhancement of oil binding capacity. However, the different effects of water in oil (W/O) and oil in water (O/W) pre-emulsions on the physicochemical properties of films are still unclear. Therefore, the soy protein isolate (SPI) based emulsion films were prepared by W/O or O/W pre-emulsion using sucrose esters with different hydrophile-lipophile balances to investigate the properties of SPI emulsion (SPIE) films. The viscosity, storage moduli, and loss moduli of film-forming solutions (FFSs)
