Anatomical characteristics and surgical treatment of bilateral congenital upper eyelid entropion in an infant with neonatal progeroid syndrome.

Neonatal progeroid syndrome (NPS) is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder characterized by an aged face, wrinkled skin, decreased subcutaneous fat, and neonatal teeth. The authors describe herein a 2-month-old infant with NPS who underwent eyelid surgery for bilateral upper eyelid entropion and stromal keratitis. The preoperative examination revealed thin, narrow, and soft tarsal plates. The eyelids were large and floppy, and there was no preaponeurotic fat tissue. The entropion was successfully treated by the levator muscle advancing onto the tarsus, anterior lamellar repositioning, horizonta

Comparing surgical outcomes between the Jones and Wies procedures with lateral tarsal strip for involutional lower eyelid entropion.

We aimed to compare surgical outcomes between the Jones and Wies procedures with a lateral tarsal strip (JP + LTS and WP + LTS, respectively) for involutional entropion repair. This retrospective, interventional, comparative study included 155 patients (unilateral: 126; bilateral: 29) with involutional entropion who underwent JP + LTS (58 eyes) or WP + LTS (126 eyes). A successful outcome was defined as a normal eyelid position at last follow-up without requiring reoperation. The mean follow-up duration was 37.3 months (median: 26.5 months; range: 6-178 months). Average operating room times pe

Congenital Upper Eyelid Entropion in an Extremely Low Birth Weight Neonate: Early Surgical Correction to Prevent Corneal Injury.

Congenital upper eyelid entropion is rare but can rapidly cause severe corneal morbidity in neonates if left untreated. In extremely low-birth-weight infants with multisystem anomalies, surgical intervention carries substantial risks, creating a balance between life-preserving caution and vision-preserving urgency. We report a case of early surgical correction in a late preterm neonate weighing 900g who presented with bilateral congenital upper eyelid entropion and right corneal ulceration. Surgical correction involved transposing the pretarsal orbicularis and levator aponeurosis complex, fixi

A Case of a Bilateral Cicatricial Upper Eyelid Entropion After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Mucopolysaccharidosis Type I.

Minor eyelid abnormalities are commonly encountered in mucopolysaccharidosis, but only rarely leading to a clinically relevant situation. The authors report a clinical case of severe bilateral cicatricial entropion of the upper eyelids, leading to recurrent conjunctival infections, corneal erosion, persistent epiphora, and a major decline in life quality in a 7-year-old boy with mucopolysaccharidosis type I who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at 1.6 years old. A bilateral anterior lamellar repositioning including eyelid split and cryoepilation was performed to correct bilater
