Anti-Infectivity against Herpes Simplex Virus and Selected Microbes and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Compounds Isolated from Eucalyptus globulus Labill.

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) causes numerous mild-to-serious human diseases, including mucocutaneous herpes infections and life-threatening herpes encephalitis. Moreover, herpes viral lesions can be complicated by inflammation and secondary bacterial infections. The development of resistance to antiviral drugs along with the undesirable side effects of these drugs are relevant argue for the development of new anti-HSV drugs with diverse mechanisms of action. Eucalyptus extracts have been used for decades to combat various infectious diseases. We isolated and studied 12 pure compounds and one mix

Photosynthetic responses to temperature, light flux-density, CO2 concentration and vapour pressure deficit in Eucalyptus tetrodonta grown under CO2 enrichment.

Seeds of Eucalyptus tetrodonta were sown under ambient or CO(2) enriched (700 microl litre(-1)) conditions in tropical Australia. Four sets of measurements were made, the first two after 12 months, on trees growing either in pots or planted in the ground. The third and fourth set were made after 18 and 30 months exposure to CO(2) enrichment, on trees growing in the ground. After 12 months exposure to CO(2) enrichment, the rate of light-saturated assimilation (Amax) of plants growing in the ground was determined. Responses of CO(2) assimilation to variations in leaf temperature, leaf-to-air vap

Co-production of fermentable sugars and highly active lignin from eucalyptus via a mild preprocessing with diethylene glycol and chromic chloride.

Eucalyptus was pretreated with diethylene glycol catalyzed by 0.02 mol/L CrCl3 for 10 min, resulting in 91 % delignification and 98 % cellulose recovery, with trace fermentation inhibitors generated. After the mild pretreatment, the accessibility and affinity of cellulase to eucalyptus was enhanced, especially since enzyme adsorption rate increased by 1.6-fold. Therefore, glucose yield of pretreated eucalyptus was 7.9-fold higher than that of untreated eucalyptus after hydrolyzed 48 h, in which the maximum glucose concentration reached 62 g/L from eucalyptus by adding Tween 80. Phosphorus application reduces aluminum toxicity in two Eucalyptus clones by increasing its accumulation in roots and decreasing its content in leaves.

Under acidic conditions, aluminum (Al) toxicity is an important factor limiting plant productivity; however, the application of phosphorus (P) might alleviate the toxic effects of Al. In this study, seedlings of two vegetatively propagated Eucalyptus clones, E. grandis × E. urophylla 'G9' and E. grandis × E. urophylla 'DH32-29'were subjected to six treatments (two levels of Al stress and three levels of P). Under excessive Al stress, root Al content was higher, whereas shoot and leaf Al contents were lower with P application than those without P application. Further, Al accumulation was higher

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Analysis of the WRKY Gene Family in Eucalyptus grandis Under Drought Stress During Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Symbiosis.

Eucalyptus is an important timber species characterized by strong adaptability and rapid growth. However, adverse environmental conditions such as drought stress severely impact its growth and productivity. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form beneficial symbiotic relationships with Eucalyptus root systems and significantly enhance plant stress tolerance. In this study, we identified 111 WRKY genes in Eucalyptus grandis and systematically characterized their physicochemical properties, phylogenetic relationships, gene structures, conserved motifs, synteny, and cis-acting elements. Notably, A

Eucalyptus essential oil exerted a sedative-hypnotic effect by influencing brain neurotransmitters and gut microbes via the gut microbiota-brain axis.

Sleep disorders are becoming more and more common, leading to many health problems. However, most of current available medications to treat sleep disorders are addictive and even impair cognitive abilities. Therefore, it is important to find a natural and safe alternative to treat sleep disorders. In this study, twenty-four 8-week-old male ICR mice (25 ± 2 g) were equally divided into three groups: the control group (gavage of 0.9% saline), the eucalyptus essential oil (EEO) group (10 mg/kg B.W.), and the diazepam group (1 mg/kg B.W.). Firstly, open field test and sleep induction test were use
