BACKGROUND: In 2020, as the Global Polio Eradication Initiative worked to address outbreaks of vaccine-derived poliovirus Type 2, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, the Covid-19 pandemic suspended routine immunization campaigns worldwide. There were concerns about how Covid-19 - and the introduction of Covid-19 vaccines - might influence uptake of the oral polio vaccine (OPV). To inform communications strategies, we conducted a qualitative study to explore insights from community stakeholders into how Covid-19 influenced perceptions of OPV and vaccination campaigns.
METHODS: We conducted 32

Skin neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) remain a major public health challenge in low- and middle-income countries, where frontline health workers often lack dermatological training. In response, the World Health Organization created the Skin NTDs App-developed by UniversalDoctor-to support frontline health workers in resource-limited settings. Initially created as a digital adaptation of a World Health Organization training guide, the app evolved by incorporating another clinical decision support tool from Until No Leprosy Remains and an artificial intelligence-powered visual classifier. BACKGROUND: Telemedicine has emerged as a critical strategy to address health care access gaps in hard-to-reach areas, particularly in resource-constrained settings. While telemedicine services have expanded across India, evidence on post-implementation experiences, specifically regarding the integration of portable diagnostic tools, and the assisting role of frontline health care workers, remains limited. Understanding these sociotechnical dynamics is essential for optimizing digital health interventions in remote areas.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore perceptions, experiences, and im

The experience of working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 healthcare crisis has presented a cumulative traumatic experience that affects healthcare professionals' well-being. Psychological resources such as resilience and adaptive defense mechanisms are essential in protecting individuals from severe stress and burnout. During September 2020, 233 healthcare workers responded to an online survey to test the impact of demographic variables, COVID-19 exposure, and psychological resources in determining stress and burnout during the COVID-19 emergency. Frontline workers reported higher scores fo

INTRODUCTION: Vaccines remain the most effective preventive measure against the ever-changing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. However, vaccine access remains unequal, leaving healthcare workers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) like Ghana at increased risk, despite early prioritisation. These inequities threaten both individual safety and the resilience of health systems. Moreover, SARS-CoV-2 infections continue to occur, particularly with emerging variants, compounding these risks. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors ass

UNLABELLED: The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated many known risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among healthcare workers. This systematic review and meta-analysis examines pooled prevalence estimates of probable PTSD among this cohort prior to COVID-19 compared to during COVID-19 and investigates time trends in prevalence. Systematic multi-database literature searches were conducted to identify studies published between January 2017 and July 2023. Included studies reported the prevalence of probable PTSD, measured by validated screening tools, in clinical healthcare workers. Tw

As the COVID-19 pandemic ravages the whole world, the frontline clinicians are tirelessly fighting to contain and manage the disastrous effects of the virus from their communities. Stress, despair, fear, physical and psychological burn out, decreased work out put and lowered morale are some side effects this endless battle has had on the frontline healthcare worker. Although there have been many accounts of surgeons working in the frontline, there have only been few reflections on this ongoing battle from the junior clinician's point of view. In this article, we feature the perspectives of you

Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) is considered a highly promising candidate for elimination within the next decade. This paper argues that the experiential knowledge of frontline health workers will be critical to achieve this goal. Interviews are used to explore the ways in which HAT workers understand, maintain, and adjust their skills amidst global and national challenges. We contrast two cases: South Sudan where HAT expertise is scattered and has been repeatedly rebuilt, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where specialised mobile detection teams have pro-actively tested people a

OBJECTIVES: COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented increase in rates of stress and burn out among healthcare workers (HCWs). Heart rate variability (HRV) has been shown to be reflective of stress and burnout. The present study evaluated the prevalence of burnout and attempted to develop a HRV based predictive machine learning (ML) model to detect burnout among HCWs during COVID-19 pandemic.
METHODS: Mini-Z 1.0 survey was collected from 1615 HCWs, of whom 664, 512 and 439 were frontline, second-line and non-COVID HCWs respectively. Burnout was defined as score ≥3 on Mini-Z-burnout-item. A

INTRODUCTION: Measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000. However, in 2025, the country experienced the highest number of cases reported in more than 2 decades. Furthermore, early 2026 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate a continued increase in case counts. Emergency nurses and emergency medical technicians frequently serve as the initial health care professionals who assess patients with fever and rashes. Prompt identification and swift isolation are essential to curtail measles transmission. This narrative literature review aims to provide prac

BACKGROUND: Community health workers (CHWs) played an important role in community-based COVID-19 prevention and control while maintaining routine primary care. The pandemic created a stressful work context for CHWs and may also have been followed by perceived positive psychological changes. Although positive psychological changes have been studied among hospital-based healthcare workers, less is known about such changes among CHWs in China. This study assessed self-reported positive psychological changes and associated factors among Chinese CHWs after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Palliative care (PC) is an essential, effective, and affordable component of health care. Global need is rising, with the greatest burden in low-and-middle-income countries. This is especially true in Nigeria where the need is growing rapidly, as are PC services; however, current organizational models have not yet been examined. This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study of five PC sites at tertiary hospitals in four of Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Surveys, informed by a Centre for Palliative Care, Nigeria (CPCN) needs assessment checklist and the Consolidated Framework for Implementat

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has not yet been introduced through the public health system in India. Understanding how communities and frontline providers perceive HPV vaccination before rollout is important for designing the introduction strategies. This study was aimed to explore community and health workers' perspectives on introducing HPV vaccination in a nonrollout district of Rajasthan.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine employer-defined core competencies for older adult care workers in China.
METHODS: From June to July 2025, we scraped 3,068 job advertisements for older adult care positions across 15 Chinese cities from three popular Chinese online recruitment sites. Based on the Iceberg Competency Model, we designed an analytic framework, which was then analyzed via automated content analysis (DivoMiner platform).
RESULTS: The employer-stated competency requirements for older adult care workers were ordered hierarchically. At the skill level, the most significant comp

PURPOSE: During the first few months of the COVID-19 outbreak, healthcare workers (HCW) faced levels of personal risk, emotional distress, and professional strain not seen in their lifetimes. This study described how these stressors influenced various aspects of their sleep patterns.
METHODS: From May 19 to June 20, 2020, an electronic, cross-sectional survey was administered to a convenience sample of in- and outpatient HCW in a large, nonprofit healthcare system. Respondents described the pandemic's initial impact on personal and professional life and various sleep dimensions: regularity, e
