Effects of solvents and salt on the thermal stability of lithiated graphite used in lithium ion battery.

The thermal stability of lithiated graphite in the presence of solvents, electrolytes and LiPF(6) salt was studied using C80 micro-calorimeter. The presence of cyclic carbonates or linear carbonates increases the activity of Li(x)C(6)-solvent coexisting system, especially for the Li(x)C(6)-linear carbonates one. LiPF(6) was detected that it increases the activity greatly of its coexisting system with lithiated graphite. The coexisting system of Li(x)C(6) with the electrolyte of LiPF(6)/ethylene carbonate+diethyl carbonate shows less thermal stability, which is attributed to the activity betwee

Tailoring Localized High-Concentration Electrolytes for Wide-Temperature Operation of High-Voltage Full Cells with Graphite Anodes.

Localized high-concentration electrolytes (LHCEs) using a 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether (TTE) diluent provide improved performance for high-voltage lithium (Li) metal batteries. However, the performance of LHCEs in high-voltage full cells with graphite anodes remains underexplored. In this regard, we systematically investigated the effect of chemical composition of LHCEs by varying TTE content and employing a lithium difluorophosphate (LiPO2F2) additive on physicochemical properties and electrochemical performances. Raman spectroscopy confirms that TTE dilution prese

Revealing Li Staging Process in Graphite via a Genetic Algorithm Coupled with a Machine-Learning Interatomic Potential.

Graphite remains the dominant anode material in Li-ion batteries, yet a complete understanding of its Li intercalation mechanism, commonly described as staging, is still elusive. This difficulty arises from two fundamental challenges. First, the strong coupling between graphite stacking and Li ordering obscures the identification of consistent, state of charge (SOC)-dependent stable LixC structures, preventing a unified interpretation of the intercalation pathway. Second, identifying thermodynamically preferred LixC structures requires exploring a vast space of Li ordering and graphite stackin

Structural transition from ordered molecular layers to disordered arrangement triggers nonmonotonic friction at n-hexadecane-graphite interfaces.

Friction is generally understood to increase with the normal load according to classical tribological theory; however, a few nanoscale studies have reported deviations from this well-known behavior. Here, we report nonmonotonic friction behavior at the n-hexadecane-graphite interface, characterized by a transition from negative to positive load dependence in single-asperity atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements. Combined analyses of experiments and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations attribute this unusual trend to load-induced structural evolution of the confined hexadecane ordered layer

Mechanistic Study of Tritium Retention and Permeation in Hydroxyl-Functionalized Nuclear Graphite for Thorium Molten Salt Reactors.

In thorium molten salt reactors (TMSRs), nuclear graphite is subjected to direct contact with high-temperature molten salts and intense neutron irradiation, leading to oxidation and structural evolution that critically influence tritium retention and release. Motivated by oxidation processes in TMSR environments, this work employs first-principles calculations based on hydroxyl (-OH)-functionalized graphite edge models to systematically investigate the effects of edge functionalization on hydrogen/tritium adsorption, migration, and release. The results indicate that, compared with pristine gra

Hierarchical ZnO-Graphite Films Enabling Durable Antifouling and Corrosion Protection of Electrochemical Electrodes in Harsh Wastewater Environments.

In microbial electrochemical coupled treatment technology, the performance of electrodes critically affects the overall efficiency of wastewater treatment systems. Electrochemical electrodes in harsh wastewater often fail due to coupled organic fouling and corrosion. Herein, hierarchical ZnO-graphite composite films are developed as durable active interfaces. Fabricated via scalable spraying, the films feature coral-like architectures composed of ZnO nanoparticles interconnected by a conductive graphite network. Characterization confirms uniform elemental integration and preserved ZnO crystall

Dual-Role Phosphorus Species Enable Regeneration of Spent Graphite via Coupled Bulk Doping and Surface Interphase Engineering.

With the rapid expansion of electric mobility and large-scale energy storage systems, the high-value regeneration of graphite anodes from retired lithium-ion batteries has attracted increasing attention. The degradation mechanism of graphite anodes involves multiple factors, including bulk structural damage and interfacial deterioration during cycling. However, state-of-the-art regeneration approaches have been restricted to addressing either structural degradation or interfacial instability in isolation, precluding the attainment of desirable electrochemical performance. To circumvent this fu

A Scalable One-Step Method for Synthesizing Durable Defect-Minimized Graphite-Metal Catalysts for Sustained Engineering Applications.

Catalytic oxidation is a key method for industrial decontamination, but it suffers from low electrical conductivity and unstable catalysts. Metal-stably bonded conductive network carbon composites show great potential, while their acquisition is costly and energy-intensive. By utilizing in situ redox reactions at a gram-scale, this study directly converts biomass fibers and copper precursors into a robust metal-bonded, defect-minimized graphite framework at 80 °C, enhancing its potential for sustainable engineering applications. When deployed as a fixed-bed reactor, the engineered catalyst dem

Enhancing the Output Performance of Fiber-TENG Through Graphite Doping and Its Application in Human Motion Sensing.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) are mechanical energy harvesters characterized by high sensitivity and simple structure and are currently being widely developed for use in human body motion sensing. Among them, fiber-based TENGs (FTENG) are particularly suitable for wearable human motion sensors due to their unique structure, which offers flexibility, high durability, and comfort. However, studies involving doping to further modify the electrical output characteristics of FTENGs are very limited. Here, we propose an innovative approach that combines graphite (GP) doping with fiber-based TE

Preconcentration of Pb(II) by Magnetic Metal-Organic Frameworks and Analysis Using Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy.

In this study, a magnetic metal-organic framework (MOF) was synthesized based on magnetic Fe3O4, Cu(II), and benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (Cu-BTC) as a sorbent for solid phase extraction (SPE) of trace amounts of Pb(II) in water and lettuce samples. Pb(II) ion was adsorbed on the magnetic MOF and easily separated by a magnet; therefore, no filtration or centrifugation was necessary. The analyte ions were eluted by HCl 0.5 mol·L-1 and analyzed via graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy. The prepared sorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive

Molecular dynamics investigation of separation of hydrogen sulfide from acidic gas mixtures inside metal-doped graphite micropores.

The separation of poisonous compounds from various process fluids has long been highly intractable, motivating the present study on the dynamic separation of H2S in acidic-gas-mixture-filled micropores. The molecular dynamics approach, coupled with the isothermal-isochoric ensemble, was used to model the molecular interactions and adsorption of H2S/CO2/CO/H2O mixtures inside metal-doped graphite slits. Due to the difference in the adsorption characteristics between the two distinct adsorbent materials, the metal dopant in the graphitic micropores leads to competitive adsorption, i.e. the Au an
