Interventions to improve professional adherence to guidelines for prevention of device-related infections.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a major threat to patient safety, and are associated with mortality rates varying from 5% to 35%. Important risk factors associated with HAIs are the use of invasive medical devices (e.g. central lines, urinary catheters and mechanical ventilators), and poor staff adherence to infection prevention practices during insertion and care for the devices when in place. There are specific risk profiles for each device, but in general, the breakdown of aseptic technique during insertion and care for the device, as well as the duration of device u

Factors associated with adherence to guidelines for the use of tigecycline in a tertiary care hospital.

We assessed the adherence to the prescribing hospital protocol for tigecycline and factors associated with noncompliance. A total of 103 patients were included in the study. In 23 (22.3%) patients, tigecycline was not administered according to the protocol, mostly because of the availability of other therapeutic alternatives and prescription for indications that were not included in the guidelines. factors independently associated with nonadherence to the protocol were community-acquired infection (OR, 14.01; 95% CI, 1.54-127.12; P=0.019), and empirical tigecycline treatment (OR, 6.97; 95% CI,

Iron deficiency anaemia: are the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines being adhered to?

BACKGROUND: The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) issued guidelines on the investigation of iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) ensuring standardised and comprehensive gastrointestinal investigation in all patients. It was apparent that not all patients in the authors' hospital were investigated according to these guidelines. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether patients who were referred for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for investigation of IDA were confirmed to be iron deficient, and whether the BSG guidelines were being fully implemented. METHODS: All patients referred for upper gastroin

Management of Ankle Sprains in Urgent Care: Adherence to Evidence-Based Guidelines.

Background Ankle injuries are among the most common reasons for urgent care visits. Evidence-based guidelines, particularly the Ottawa Ankle Rules (OAR), aim to standardize assessment and reduce unnecessary imaging. Despite strong evidence supporting their diagnostic accuracy, clinicians' adherence remains variable. This variability can lead to suboptimal patient outcomes, such as chronic joint instability and increased healthcare costs. This study assesses physicians' compliance with OAR and related management recommendations and identifies barriers that hinder appropriate guideline use. Obje

Evaluating psychiatry journals' adherence to informed consent guidelines for case reports.

BACKGROUND: Case reports are valuable tools that illustrate and analyze practical scenarios, novel problems, and the effectiveness of interventions. In psychiatry they often explore unique and potentially stigmatizing aspects of mental health, underscoring the importance of confidentiality and informed consent. However, journals' guidance on consent and confidentiality for case reports varies. In 2013, an international expert group developed the CAse REports (CARE) Guidelines for best practices in case reports, which include guidelines for informed consent and de-identification. In 2016, the C

Effects of Practice Ownership and Integration of Health Services on Adherence to Diabetes Guidelines.

OBJECTIVE: There has been a trend toward hospital systems and insurers acquiring privately owned physician practices and subsequently converting them into vertically integrated practices. The purpose of this study is to observe whether this change in ownership of a medical practice influences adherence to clinical guidelines for the management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. METHODS: This is an observational study using pooled cross-sectional data (2014-2016 and 2018-2019) from the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, a nationally representative probability sample of US office-based physic

Adherence to NCCN Genetic Testing Guidelines in Pancreatic Cancer and Impact on Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) 2019 Guidelines recommend universal germline (GL) testing for patients (pts) with pancreatic cancer (PC), given germline mutations (gMut) can occur at a similar rate irrespective of an individual's family history of cancer. Molecular analysis of tumors in those with metastatic disease is also recommended. We aimed to determine rates of genetic testing at our institution, factors associated with testing, and outcomes of those tested. METHODS: Frequency of GL and somatic testing was examined in pts diagnosed with non-endocrine PC, with
