BACKGROUND: Ectopic thyroid tissue (ETT) is primarily caused by embryonic dysplasia. It is commonly located laterally in the neck or in the thyroglossal duct, as well as in more remote locations like the mediastinum and the subdiaphragmatic organs. The incidence of ETT is relatively rare, and the risk of malignant transformation is extremely low. The clinical symptoms of ETT are typically linked to the site of ETT involvement, and histopathological or biopsy examination is typically used to confirm the diagnosis of ectopic thyroid cancer.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a rare case of a 30-year-

Associations between craniofacial morphology, its development and growth on the one hand and functional factors on the other hand have been eagerly debated in the literature during the last 20 years. The aim of the present thesis, based on five publications, was to evaluate the effect of enlarged tonsils and tonsillectomy on the dento-facial morphology, the posture of the head, the position of the hyoid bone and tongue, and on the mode of breathing. The material comprised 146 Swedish children (66 boys and 80 girls), 5.3-17.3 years old, with a mean age of 10.1 years. Of these children 73 were j

INTRODUCTION: Thyroglossal duct cysts (TGDCs) are the most common congenital midline neck masses encountered in pediatric populations and are usually located anterior to the hyoid bone, making them readily identifiable by both superficial ultrasonography and skin palpation. However, intraoperative identification can be challenging in cases in which the cyst is located on the dorsal side of the hyoid bone or near the base of the tongue, which increases the risk of incomplete excision or rupture. This report describes the pediatric case of a TGDC located between the hyoid bone and the foramen ce

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Functional orthopedics induces mandibular advancement caused by neuromuscular adaptations. These adaptations can affect the position of the hyoid bone and may contribute to the amount of skeletal outcomes. The skeletal response is triggered by the quality and quantity of growth as well as muscular reactions. The aim of this clinical trial was to evaluate the hyoid bone position before and after functional orthodontic treatment.
METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 31 patients (mean age: 12.3 ± 0.9 years) with skeletal class II meeting the following inclusion crite

We present a case of internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis caused by mechanical stimulation by the hyoid bone (HB) and thyroid cartilage (TC). A 78-year-old man with a history of right ICA stenting four years previously was admitted for abrupt onset of dysarthria and left hemiparesis and diagnosed with ischemic stroke by magnetic resonance imaging. Three-dimensional computed tomographic angiography revealed internal carotid in-stent restenosis. Furthermore, the HB and TC contacted with the right ICA. Treatment involved antiplatelet therapy, partial HB and TC resection, and carotid artery rest
