Zero-shot arbitrary-scale super resolution in susceptibility-weighted imaging for cerebral microbleed analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Susceptibility Weighted Imaging (SWI) plays a pivotal role in detecting cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), key biomarkers of vascular abnormalities and neurodegenerative diseases. Clinical protocols often use larger slice spacing to reduce scan time, resulting in low-resolution SWI with compromised through-plane detail. Although deep learning-based super-resolution (SR) methods show promise, they require large paired high-resolution (HR) and low-resolution (LR) datasets that are difficult to acquire in medical imaging. To address these challenges, we propose MagNeRF, a zero

MINeR: Direction-modulated implicit neural representation enables ultrafast multi-shell diffusion MRI.

Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) enables noninvasive mapping of tissue microstructure by probing water molecule diffusivity. While advanced multi-shell diffusion models offer improved sensitivity to cellular properties, their requirement for densely sampled q-space data leads to prohibitively long acquisition times. Current deep learning approaches for parameter estimation face three key limitations: (1) dependency on fixed acquisition protocols, (2) model-specific assumptions that constrain applicability, and (3) reliance on supervised learning paradigms that demand large labeled d

Leveraging Image-Text Pairs for Generalized Category Discovery in Medical Image Classification.

Generalized category discovery aims to identify known medical categories and unknown new medical categories from unlabeled data by migrating knowledge from labeled datasets containing only known categories, which is crucial for disease understanding and precision medicine. Many methods have been proposed and significantly improved the performance of GCD in medical images. However, most of the existing methods discover new categories based on image modalities only, ignoring useful information in the large amount of textual data related to diseases. In this paper, we propose M3GCD (Medical Multi

A multi-scale adaptive filtering and AtRes_SRU-transformer synergy for breast cancer histopathology classification.

The Biomedical image analysis is also crucial in the contemporary healthcare system as it facilitates correct diagnosis of diseases, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making. As novel imaging methods like MRI, histopathology and chest X-ray have appeared, the necessity of automated systems that could effectively work with extensive image data of different complexity has grown. The main difficulty, however, is to strike the right balance between the complexity of biomedical images and computational efficiency because, most of the time, these images are large-scale, high-resolution, and

Dual-conditioned diffusion model with anatomical guidance for geometric distortion correction in prostate MRI.

OBJECTIVE: Geometric distortion from susceptibility artifacts in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) degrades anatomical fidelity and complicates clinical prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) interpretation. We developed and evaluated DeDistortNet, a generative dual-conditioned diffusion model for correcting geometric distortions in prostate DWI without experimentally acquired paired distorted-undistorted data. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We utilized the public PROSTATEx dataset, divided into training (n = 135, 1,893 slices), validation (n = 4, 64 slices), and test (n = 189, 2,623 slices) cohort

Spectrum intervention based invariant causal representation learning for single-domain generalizable medical image segmentation.

The performance of a well-trained segmentation model is often trapped by domain shift caused by acquisition variance. Existing efforts are devoted to expanding the diversity of single-source samples, as well as learning domain-invariant representations. Essentially, they are still modeling the statistical dependence between sample-label pairs to achieve a superficial portrayal of reality. On the contrary, we propose a Spectrum Intervention based Invariant Causal Representation Learning (SI2CRL) framework, to unify the data generation and representation learning from causal view. Specifically,

Anomaly-Driven Approach for Enhanced Prostate Cancer Segmentation.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays an important role in identifying clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa), yet automated methods face challenges such as data imbalance, variable tumor sizes, and a lack of annotated data. This study introduces Anomaly-Driven U-Net (adU-Net), which incorporates anomaly maps derived from biparametric MRI sequences into a deep learning-based segmentation framework to improve csPCa identification. We conduct a comparative analysis of anomaly detection methods and evaluate the integration of anomaly maps into the segmentation pipeline. Anomaly maps, gen

An automated cascade framework for glioma prognosis via segmentation, multi-feature fusion and classification techniques.

Glioma is one of the most lethal types of brain tumors, accounting for approximately 33% of all diagnosed brain tumor cases. Accurate segmentation and classification are crucial for precise glioma characterization, emphasizing early detection of malignancy, effective treatment planning, and prevention of tumor progression. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) serves as a non-invasive imaging modality that allows detailed examination of gliomas without exposure to ionizing radiation. However, manual analysis of MRI scans is impractical, time-consuming, subjective, and requires specialized expertise

Enhancing esophageal cancer detection using a deep learning framework and a novel spectrum-aided vision enhancer for virtual narrow band imaging.

Esophageal cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy where early detection is critical for survival. However, early-stage lesions typically present subtle mucosal changes that are difficult to identify using standard White Light Imaging (WLI), and hardware-based Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) is not universally available. In this study, we propose a novel image processing algorithm termed the Spectrum-Aided Vision Enhancer (SAVE) to address these challenges in computer-aided diagnosis (CAD). Leveraging hyperspectral data principles, SAVE transforms standard WLI endoscopic images into enhanced, NBI-l

Texture based classification of the severity of mitral regurgitation.

Clinically, the severity of valvular regurgitation is assessed by manual tracing of the regurgitant jet in the respective chambers. This work presents a computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) system for the assessment of the severity of mitral regurgitation (MR) based on image processing that does not require the intervention of the radiologist or clinician. Eight different texture feature sets from the regurgitant area (selected through an arbitrary criterion) have been used in the present approach. First order statistics have been used initially, however, observing their limitations, the other text

Three-dimensional CT imaging for wrist disorders.

Three-dimensional CT imaging of the wrist was performed in 20 patients: three with Kienböck's disease, 14 with fractures or dislocations of the carpal bones, two with dislocation of the distal radio-ulnar joint and one with an intra-articular fracture of distal radius. These images were compared with those of plain radiographs and computed tomography. With the exception of two cases of distal radio-ulnar joint dislocation and one case of hamate body fracture, three-dimensional CT imaging was helpful in detecting the displacement of the fracture and in determining the location and the direction

[3-dimensional (3-D) image reconstruction of the facial skull and skull base in computerized tomography].

The diagnostic value of three-dimensional (3-D) image reconstruction in conditions affecting the craniofacial skeleton and the skull base has been assessed and the results compared with the CT scans used. Owing to reconstruction artefacts and some limitations in the exact display of 3-D images, no substantial improvement in diagnosis can be expected. Nonetheless, 3-D images facilitate the analysis and detection of complex fractures of the craniofacial skeleton and improve surgical planning and postoperative evaluation.

Enhanced glaucoma classification through advanced segmentation by integrating cup-to-disc ratio and neuro-retinal rim features.

Glaucoma is a progressive eye condition caused by high intraocular fluid pressure, damaging the optic nerve, leading to gradual, irreversible vision loss, often without noticeable symptoms. Subtle signs like mild eye redness, slightly blurred vision, and eye pain may go unnoticed, earning it the nickname "silent thief of sight." Its prevalence is rising with an aging population, driven by increased life expectancy. Most computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems rely on the cup-to-disc ratio (CDR) for glaucoma diagnosis. This study introduces a novel approach by integrating CDR with the neuro-reti

This paper is an exhaustive survey of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system-based automatic detection of several diseases from ultrasound images. CAD plays a vital role in the automatic and early detection of diseases. Health monitoring, medical database management, and picture archiving systems became very feasible with CAD, assisting radiologists in making decisions over any imaging modality. Imaging modalities mainly rely on machine learning and deep learning algorithms for early and accurate disease detection. CAD approaches are described in this paper in terms of it's their significant to

Informatics Approaches to Address New Challenges in the Classification of Lymphoid Malignancies.

PURPOSE: Lymphoid malignancies are remarkably heterogeneous, with variations in outcomes and clinical, biologic, and histologic presentation complicating classification according to the World Health Organization guidelines. Incorrect classification of lymphoid neoplasms can result in suboptimal therapeutic strategies for individual patients and confound the interpretation of clinical trials involving personalized, class-based treatments. This review discusses the potential role of pathology informatics in improving the classification accuracy and objectivity for lymphoid malignancies. DESIGN:

H-DCA Net: Hierarchical dual-branch coordinate attention framework for multi-scale gastric histopathology diagnosis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Early and accurate diagnosis of gastric cancer is crucial for improving patient prognosis. However, conventional histopathological diagnosis is constrained by subjectivity and low efficiency. Current computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems often struggle with a "scale mismatch" problem, failing to simultaneously integrate macroscopic tissue structures and microscopic cellular details. To address this bottleneck, this study aims to develop a novel deep learning framework, named H-DCA Net, that mimics the multi-scale diagnostic workflow of pathologists to improve the acc

A Thyroid Nodule Ultrasound Image Grading Model Integrating Medical Prior Knowledge.

In recent years, there has been increasing research on computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) using deep learning and image processing techniques. Still, most studies have focused on the benign-malignant classification of nodules. In this study, we propose an integrated architecture for grading thyroid nodules based on the Chinese Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (C-TIRADS). The method combines traditional handcrafted features with deep features in the extraction process. In the preprocessing stage, a pseudo-artifact removal algorithm based on the fast marching method (FMM) is employed, follo

Multiple-Instance Learning for thyroid gland disease classification: A hands-on experience.

The morphological diagnosis of thyroid gland neoplasms presents a dual challenge: it requires the expertise of highly trained specialists and considerable time, particularly when evaluating multiple whole slide images (WSIs) from a single patient. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques into the diagnostic workflow is a hot area of research. However, most studies rely on meticulously curated datasets, the preparation of which is both costly and fraught with complexities. This paper investigates the development of machine learning models using weakly-annotated "real-world" da
