In previous studies it has been suggested that activation of cellular immunity may have a role in controlling the activity of chronic non-A, non-B liver disease. We conducted a pilot study of therapy with a bovine thymus extract for 6 weeks in 15 consecutive patients with chronic non-A, non-B hepatitis, most of them sporadic cases. Treatment induced immunomodulation, and in five patients a significant but transient diminution in aminotransferase levels was observed associated with increments in several parameters of cellular immunity. INTRODUCTION: Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant is an important treatment modality used to achieve long-term remission in people with multiple myeloma. Complications include chemotherapy-related toxicity or infection. Rarely, clinical features consistent with autologous graft-versus-host disease, otherwise known as auto-aggression syndrome, is possible. Auto-aggression syndrome appears more commonly in patients with multiple myeloma, hypothesized to be a result of underlying immune dysregulation, conditioning chemotherapy, or treatment with immunomodulating agents.

INTRODUCTION: Cell transplantation is a promising curative therapeutic strategy whereby impaired organ function can be restored without the need for whole-organ transplantation. Levamisole is a veterinary antihelminthic, chemotherapeutic agent, and immunomodulator that also is used as an adulterant and cutting agent in cocaine distribution. This drug may potentiate the sympathomimetic actions of cocaine and can cause neutropenia, agranulocytosis, purpuric retiform lesions, and skin necrosis. This article describes two cases of suspected levamisole-induced vasculitis. No standardized diagnostic or treatment algorithm exists for this challenging condition.
