Prevalence of "red flags" among the internet user with low back pain seeking information on spinal health-a web survey.

BACKGROUND: In early management of low back pain (LBP) the identification of "red flags" (RFs) plays an important role, as this condition is highly prevalent, and advanced treatment would not be feasible in every case. These alarm signs are designed to detect serious causes requiring prompt interventions, such as malignancy, fracture, inflammation, or cauda equina syndrome. Although their predictive value has been questioned, they are commonly used in clinical practice. The use of RFs in Web applications has never been evaluated before. In theory, they should reduce risks related to online cou

Seeking and encountering online information for menstrual health: a qualitative study among adolescent schoolgirls in Gianyar Regency and Denpasar City, Bali, Indonesia.

PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: Good quality information helps adolescents with their menstrual health. It supports them in realising their human rights. Many adolescents find information on menstrual health online through websites, social media, or health apps. Online information is increasingly important. But we know little about how adolescents access and use it for menstrual health. We conducted a qualitative study in junior high schools in two districts of Bali, Indonesia. 24 school girls aged 13-15 took part. We wanted to understand how they accessed online information and what they learnt from

Online HIV information seeking and pre-exposure prophylaxis awareness among people who use drugs.

People who use drugs (PWUD) remain at high risk for acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), both from injection and from sexual risk-taking. In 2016, 9% of 39,782 new HIV diagnoses occurred among people who inject drugs in the United States. Reaching PWUD with accurate information about and motivation for initiating pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) remains challenging and remains the first crucial step in the knowledge-attitude-behavior change continuum. This study seeks to contribute to closing this information gap by examining the HIV information-seeking behaviors among PWUD who are not

Analyzing Reddit Forums Specific to Abortion That Yield Diverse Dialogues Pertaining to Medical Information Seeking and Personal Worldviews: Data Mining and Natural Language Processing Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Attitudes toward abortion have historically been characterized via dichotomized labels, yet research suggests that these labels do not appropriately encapsulate beliefs on abortion. Rather, contexts, circumstances, and lived experiences often shape views on abortion into more nuanced and complex perspectives. Qualitative data have also been shown to underpin belief systems regarding abortion. Social media, as a form of qualitative data, could reveal how attitudes toward abortion are communicated publicly in web-based spaces. Furthermore, in some cases, social media can also be leve

What Goes Down Must Come Up? Pandemic- Related Misinformation Search Behavior During an Unplanned Facebook Outage.

Pundits and scholars alike suspect that Facebook plays a role in not only exposing Americans to misinformation, but also encouraging them to seek out misinformation from other sources. Whether or not Facebook is responsible for stimulating misinformation search beyond the social networking site, however, is an open question. If Facebook encourages misinformation search behavior, we might expect search volume on other websites to simultaneously decrease when web traffic to Facebook is comparatively low. Here, we exploit a naturally-occurring and exogenous interruption to Facebook's service to s

[The Well-informed Patient: a Survey on Patients' Initiative in Seeking Disease-related Information].

Internet and print media are frequently used by laypersons to learn about health issues. The objective of this study was to find out whether people with mental disorders showed a special pattern of usage. Where and why do they seek for information about their disorder? How do they experience their search? In semi-standardized interviews, we surveyed 200 psychiatric inpatients. Only patients of the following diagnostic groups were included: 1. Schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders (F20-F29), 2. Affective disorders (F30-F39) and 3. Disorders of adult personality and behavior (F60-F

The motivations of donor-conceived adults for seeking information about, and contact with, sperm donors.

RESEARCH QUESTION: How do the demographic characteristics, mental health experiences and disclosure experiences of donor-conceived adults shape motivations for seeking information about their sperm donors, contact with them, or both? DESIGN: Sixty-nine Australian adults who conceived through sperm donors completed an online survey. Uniquely, information and contact seeking were investigated as two distinct concepts. RESULTS: Participants reported a variety of demographic, mental health, disclosure and discovery experiences. Most had been motivated to seek information about their donor (88%),

Seeing is believing? A mixed-methods study exploring the quality and perceived trustworthiness of online information about chronic conditions aimed at children and young people.

The numbers of children and young people with chronic conditions are increasing. While their information needs may vary, providing health care information can have considerable benefits, including better emotional health, less distress during treatments, and greater satisfaction with medical care. The Internet is increasingly being used to communicate health-related information to children about a range of chronic conditions. However, the quality of such websites is underexplored. Thus, the objectives of this study were to evaluate the reliability and quality of online information for children

Patterns of food avoidance and eating behavior in women with fibromyalgia.

INTRODUCTION: Fibromyalgia is a form of non-articular rheumatic disorder of unknown origin. It is characterized by widespread, chronic musculoskeletal pain. Patients with fibromyalgia suffer more frequently eating disorders, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Studies have pointed out to nutrition as a relevant factor in these patients. Some of them think that diet has an influence on fibromyalgia symptoms, and tend to adopt certain dietary patterns. This, combined with access to non-scientific information about diets and supplements, makes analysis of dietary beh

Seeking information and services associated with reproductive health among rural Peruvian young adults: exploratory qualitative research from Amazonas, Peru.

BACKGROUND: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) literacy allows young adults to make informed decisions about health outcomes. In Peru, roughly one fifth of the population lives in rural areas, and little is known about where young adults in rural areas get their SRH information. The aim of this study was to identify what motivates and influences young adults to seek information and care related to SRH in three rural communities in the highlands of Northern Peru. METHODS: Five gender-stratified focus group discussions with a total of 24 participants, and nine follow-up interviews were conduc

Exploring Adolescent Abortion Information Sources and Preferences post-Dobbs in the Midwestern United States.

Adolescents face increasing obstacles to abortion services and information. Limited research post-Dobbs suggests that adolescents turn to social media for information, but more research is needed to understand where adolescents expect to find reliable information about abortion and access to care. We conducted in-depth interviews with participants aged 16-19 years from Midwestern states (Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota) to explore how they engage with abortion information and which sources they trust and prefer. Interviews were conducted via Zoom bet
