Laser-Based Therapies in Rosacea: A Comprehensive Review of Mechanisms, Clinical Efficacy, and Future Directions.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by erythematous, papular, and pustular lesions. Treatment for rosacea is tailored to the type and severity of lesions and the individual needs of the patient. The primary therapy involves topical and systemic treatments. Laser therapy is also an effective method. This review summarizes current knowledge on the application of pulsed dye lasers (PDLs), potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) lasers, intense pulsed light (IPL), neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) lasers, carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers, and erbium-doped yttrium alumi

Riehl melanosis treated successfully with Q-switch Nd:YAG laser.

Riehl melanosis is a rare cause of skin hyperpigmentation that typically occurs on the face and neck and is characterized by the rapid onset of gray-brown reticular pigmentation. It is theorized to be a pigmented contact dermatitis or a lichenoid immune reaction that may be caused by intrinsic as well as extrinsic factors. Treatment is challenging; laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a common treatment for other pigmented skin conditions. IPL has been reported twice for the treatment of Riehl melanosis and we report a case of Riehl melanosis successfully treated with q-switched Nd:

Acne and PDT: new techniques with lasers and light sources.

Acne vulgaris is one of the most common dermatologic disorders encountered in everyday practice. Treatment options for this often psychologically scarring disease are numerous and, for many individuals, provide relief from the disorder. However, factors such as antibiotic resistance and slow onset of action from many topical therapies have led researchers to seek out alternative therapies, especially for those suffering from moderate to severe inflammatory acne vulgaris. Lasers and light sources are finding increased usage in the treatment of inflammatory acne vulgaris. Light sources including

Treatment of facial telangiectasia with a small spot of intense pulsed light: a case series of three patients.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) technology has long been used in the treatment of facial telangiectasia. While the large spot size of traditional IPL devices offers rapid coverage, it has limitations in terms of visibility and uniform contact with the skin in contoured areas of the face. The novel IPL used in this study had a small spot size (6.35 mm) and shorter wavelength (500-635 nm), allowing the use of high fluence without burning the normal epidermal tissue surrounding the lesion, thus providing better efficacy. Treatment of facial telangiectasia using small-spot IPL is effective with a low r

A comparative study of hair removal at an NHS hospital: Luminette intense pulsed light versus electrolysis.

Twenty-five women, referred for hair removal by electrolysis, were enrolled in a split face study to treat facial hirsutism. Each patient was treated on six occasions: one-half of the face with electrolysis and the other side with an intense pulsed light source. Patients were evaluated with respect to reduction in hair counts, side effects and discomfort during treatment. Re-growth was assessed at 3, 6 and 9 months following treatment. All patients, except one with very sparse, fair hair growth, preferred treatment with the Intense Pulsed Light and rated their average hair reduction with this

Treatment of essential telangiectasias with an intense pulsed light source (PhotoDerm VL).

BACKGROUND: The flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser (585 and 577 nm) has proven to be a very effective and safe treatment option in the therapy of essential telangiectasias (ETE). Nevertheless, the postoperative intracutaneous hematomata, which most patients see as cosmetically disfiguring, always has been a matter of concern. OBJECTIVE: To test the efficacy and safety of a new, large spot size, intense pulsed light source, the PhotoDerm VL, which omits noncoherent light adjustable within the 515-1200-nm range, in the treatment of ETE. METHODS: Fourteen patients were treated with the PhotoDerm
