Exploring demographic, healthcare, and socio-economic factors as predictors of COVID-19 incidence rate: A spatial regression analysis.

This study investigated the relationship between demographic, healthcare, and socio-economic factors, and COVID-19 incidence rate per 100,000 population in Thailand at the province level between January 2020 and March 2022, using a five-phase approach by spatial analysis. OLS models were initially used with significant variables: household, hospital, and industry density, nighttime light index (NTLI). Spatial dependency led to spatial error (SEM) and spatial lag models (SLM), performing better with similar significant variables being applied. SEM explains 58, 65 and, 70 percent in Wave 1, 4 an

How environmental health burdens shape physical activity patterns: age-specific evidence from OECD countries.

BACKGROUND: Despite widespread acknowledgment of physical activity's (PA) benefits, inactivity remains a significant public health challenge, exacerbated by environmental and socioeconomic factors. This study investigates how environmental health burdens-specifically air pollution and smoking-related disease burdens-alongside socioeconomic conditions shape PA patterns across different life stages in OECD countries. METHODS: Using cross-sectional data from 38 OECD countries, age-stratified beta regression models examined the determinants of PA prevalence among adolescents (ages 11-17), adults

Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of Internet-Delivered Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Pediatric Headache.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of an Internet-delivered cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention for adolescents with chronic headache. BACKGROUND: Headache is among the most common pain complaints of childhood. Cognitive-behavioral interventions are efficacious for improving pain among youth with headache. However, many youth do not receive psychological treatment for headache due to poor access, which has led to consideration of alternative delivery modalities such as the Internet. METHODS: We used a parallel arm randomized controlled trial desi

Evaluation of an HIV nucleic acid testing program with automated Internet and voicemail systems to deliver results.

BACKGROUND: Nucleic acid testing (NAT) in routine HIV testing programs can increase the detection of infected individuals, but the most effective implementation of NAT remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To determine how many HIV cases can be identified with NAT and how many persons can be contacted, to identify predictors of acute and early HIV infection cases, and to test reporting of negative results by automated Internet and voicemail systems. DESIGN: Prospective study. SETTING: San Diego County, California. PARTICIPANTS: Persons seeking HIV testing. MEASUREMENTS: Rates and predictors of HIV

The effect of internet use on the health of middle-aged and older adults: evidences from China general social survey.

BACKGROUND: According to the United Nations classification of aging societies, China is rapidly transitioning into a moderately aging society, facing significant challenges related to population aging. Concurrently, China is actively implementing the Internet Power Strategy and the Internet Plus action plan, which are profoundly transforming the daily lives of individuals, including their health status. However, research on the impact of internet use on the health of middle-aged and older adults has not reached a consensus. This study aims to investigate the effects of internet use on the heal

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Regarding Zika: Paper- and Internet-Based Survey in Zhejiang, China.

BACKGROUND: As public access to the Internet increases, many health workers prefer to carry out health education online, reducing the use of traditional community-based health education methods. Since March 2016, four Zika cases have been confirmed in Zhejiang, China. Rapid assessment of people's knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding Zika is crucial to its prevention and control. Web-based surveys to assess public KAP may be a growing trend; however, we had little experience with this method. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to explore KAP regarding Zika in residents of Zhe

The association of electronic health literacy with behavioural and psychological coronary artery disease risk factors in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention: a 12-month follow-up study.

AIMS: Fundamental roadblocks, such as non-use and low electronic health (eHealth) literacy, prevent the implementation of eHealth resources. The aims were to study internet usage for health information and eHealth literacy in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Further, we aimed to evaluate temporal changes and determine whether the use of the internet to find health information and eHealth literacy were associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) risk factors at the index admission and 12-month follow-up of the same population. METHODS AND RESULTS: This prospective lon

The goals of our study were to assess Internet awareness by families seen in paediatric orthopaedic outpatients departments and the type, quality and reliability of information available, using clubfoot as an example. Parents accompanying children to the outpatient's clinic were surveyed regarding the use of the Internet for medical information. They were asked about their ability to use the Internet, and whether this helped the consultatio

Internet-Based Patient Portals Increase Patient Connectivity Following Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Many healthcare-related processes have undergone substantial transformation by the internet since the turn of the century. This technological revolution has fostered a fundamental shift from medical paternalism to patient autonomy and empowerment via a "patient-centric approach." Patient portals, or internet-enabled access to an electronic medical record, permit patients to access, manage, and share their health-related information. Patient connectivity following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has the potential to positively influence overall outcomes, patient experience, and satisfaction. To u

Smoking cessation via the internet: a randomized clinical trial of an internet intervention as adjuvant treatment in a smoking cessation intervention.

Internet interventions for smoking cessation are ubiquitous. Yet, to date, there are few randomized clinical trials that gauge their efficacy. This study is a randomized clinical trial (N= 284, n= 140 in the treatment group, n= 144 in the control group) of an Internet smoking cessation intervention. Smokers were randomly assigned to receive either bupropion plus counseling alone, or bupropion and counseling in addition to 12 weeks of access to the Comprehensive Health Enhancement Support System for Smoking Cessation and Relapse Prevention (CHESS SCRP; a Web site which provided information on s

Did the popularization of the Internet impact Chinese citizens' attitude towards foreign countries? An empirical study based on two surveys.

Citizens' attitudes towards foreign countries are considered an important factor in making foreign policy. This also holds in China, where public opinion is given significant weight in foreign policy-making. On the other hand, the media serves as a gateway for citizens to access the outside world, shaping their attitudes towards foreign countries. The rise of the Internet since the mid-2000s has brought about radical changes in the media landscape. The Internet, characterized by its loose control and the strong patriotic sentiment among netizens, is viewed as a breeding ground for popular nati

Internet-Based Abnormal Chromosomal Diagnosis During Pregnancy Using a Noninvasive Innovative Approach to Detecting Chromosomal Abnormalities in the Fetus: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Chromosomal abnormalities are genetic disorders caused by chromosome errors, leading to developmental delays, birth defects, and miscarriages. Currently, invasive procedures such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling are mostly used, which carry a risk of miscarriage. This has led to the need for a noninvasive and innovative approach to detect and prevent chromosomal abnormalities during pregnancy. OBJECTIVE: This review aims to describe and appraise the potential of internet-based abnormal chromosomal preventive measures as a noninvasive approach to detecting and preventi
