Framework for integration of regional transportation model (RTM) with collision prediction model (CPM).

Traditional road safety planning is largely reactive, while existing Collision Prediction Models (CPMs) often function as disconnected post-processing tools. However, a growing body of research has highlighted the need for proactive safety assessment at the transportation planning stage. Building on this research, the present study demonstrates a large-scale, automated framework that integrates CPMs with a calibrated, tour-based Regional Transportation Model (RTM), enabling travel demand and network-wide collision outcomes to be evaluated within a unified modelling workflow. Using the Calgary

Understanding and predicting rolling-gap pedestrian behavior under mixed traffic using pose-informed deep learning.

OBJECTIVES: Pedestrian safety remains a critical concern in developing countries, particularly at unsignalized intersections characterized by non-lane-based, heterogeneous traffic. A prevalent and risky behavior in such contexts is rolling-gap crossing, where pedestrians opportunistically navigate through narrow moving-traffic gaps, often pausing mid-crossing. This study aims to develop a pose-based deep learning framework to predict, in real time, whether a pedestrian will wait or continue walking during rolling-gap crossings. METHODS: Video data from two urban intersections in India were an

Engagement and Intersectionality in Digital Self-Management Interventions for Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Asthma and COPD are long-term respiratory conditions that require active self-management to improve quality of life and reduce health care burdens. Digital health interventions (DHIs) are increasingly used to support behavior change, symptom monitoring, and medication adherence, offering new opportunities for personalized care and real-time feedback. Understanding patient engagement with digital tools is essential for optimizing intervention design, improving clinical outcomes, and addressing potential inequalities in access and effectiveness. This review is informed by a novel con

Adolescent girls and physical activity in public spaces: insights from the city of Antwerp.

Physical activity in adolescence is a key determinant of long-term health, yet teenage girls remain consistently less active than boys. Urban public spaces play a central role in facilitating everyday opportunities for physical activity, from informal play to organised sport. However, these spaces are not equally accessible or welcoming to all. They are sites where gendered hierarchies and norms surface, but also where other intersecting structures of inequality - such as socioeconomic background, migration status, dis/ability, and religion - shape who feels entitled to participate and who doe

Amplified stigma: a conceptual synthesis of embodied intersections of menstruation and homelessness in Western urban contexts.

Menstruation and homelessness are each highly stigmatised experiences, yet their intersection remains critically understudied. This paper introduces the concept of amplified stigma to describe the compounded psychosocial, material and structural harms faced by individuals who menstruate without stable housing in high-income Western cities. Drawing from a conceptual synthesis of over 70 interdisciplinary sources, including public health, feminist theory, medical sociology, anthropology and gender studies, we employ three core analytical frameworks: embodiment, objectification and intersectional

Navigating the CBD: How Urban Risk Environment Shapes Daily Life for People Who Use Drugs in Edmonton's Central Business District.

Public drug use in urban central business districts (CBDs) presents an urgent public health challenge in Canada. People who use drugs (PWUD) in CBDs navigate intersecting risks related to criminalization, stigma, hostile architecture, urban redevelopment, and limited access to essential services-factors that compound health disparities and increase morbidity and mortality. Yet CBDs also function as sites of informal social networks, mutual aid, and adaptive survival strategies that, while precarious, constitute critical resources for daily safety and belonging. This focused ethnographic study,

Priority Control of Intelligent Connected Dedicated Bus Corridor Based on Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient.

To address the substantial disparities in operational characteristics between social vehicles and dedicated bus lanes, as well as the sub-optimal coordination control effects, a comprehensive approach is proposed. This approach integrates social vehicle arterial coordination with bus priority control in dedicated bus lanes. Initially, an analysis of the differences in travel time distribution on both types of roads is conducted. The likelihood of buses passing through upstream and downstream intersections without stopping is also assessed. This analysis aids in determining the correlated traff

Gut microbiota-nanoparticle interactions in Parkinson's disease: mechanistic insights and therapeutic perspective.

OBJECTIVE: This review introduces the 'nanomaterial-microbiome-brain interface' as a conceptual framework uniting three systems: gut microbiota, nanoparticles, and neurodegeneration. MAIN FINDINGS: We synthesize evidence showing that titanium dioxide, silver, and zinc oxide nanoparticles differentially alter microbial composition. These microbial shifts intersect with established gut-brain mechanisms, including short-chain fatty acid production and immune modulation, providing plausible pathways linking nanomaterial exposure to neurological outcomes. CONCLUSION: We propose the 'nanomaterial-

A Framework for Developing Mental Health Educational Interventions for Correctional Officers.

The overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in carceral settings has led to justifiable concerns about their wellbeing and the appropriateness of their care. Correctional officers may be the first point of recognition and management for incarcerated persons experiencing mental illness. Correctional officers thus unknowingly participate in mental health care without a formally recognized mental health care role or knowledge of mental health educational best practice standards. This article reviews the small literature linking specific factors in mental health educational interventions

Racially Conscious Sociocultural Attuned Emotionally Focused Therapy With Inter-Ethnoracial Couples.

Inter-ethnoracial relationships have increased in the United States since anti-miscegenation laws were repealed over 58 years ago. While public approval has grown, it remains a marginalized relationship structure. Inter-ethnoracial partners tend to experience stigma, stress, or trauma from discrimination, lower relationship quality, and negative mental health. Inter-ethnoracial research literature also reflect that these relationships are at risk for separation or dissolution. Applying critical race theory (CRT) and intersectionality can help relational therapists understand the marginalizatio

Disparities in women's health and clinical considerations from a translational science perspective: A narrative review and framework for future directions.

BACKGROUND: Sex and gender disparities persist across biomedical research, clinical care, and health policy, despite increasing recognition of sex-specific disease mechanisms and treatment responses. Underrepresentation of women in clinical trials continues to produce male-centric treatment protocols and insufficient data to support precision care. METHODS: This narrative review applies a translational science framework to examine recurring and cross-cutting gaps in sex and gender health science. Rather than cataloging all disease areas, the review uses three exemplar domains-mental and neuro

HIV testing among sub-Saharan African migrants in the Netherlands: a comprehensive analysis of barriers and facilitators.

In the Netherlands, sub-Saharan African migrants (SSAM) are disproportionately affected by HIV, and late HIV diagnoses remain a significant challenge. Using a socioecological framework, we explored barriers and facilitators to HIV testing from the perspectives of a diverse group of 32 SSAM and 13 key informants (KI) through semi-structured interviews. Interview data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Identified barriers to HIV testing included risk perception, limited availability of HIV-related information and awareness of testing possibilities and opportunities, loss of social

Understanding the influence of Social Determinants of Health (SDH) on suicidal behaviors among HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) in China: A population-based study.

BACKGROUND: HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) are at high risk of suicide and experience intersectional inequalities. The Social Determinants of Health (SDH) framework provides valuable insights into how inequalities can lead to adverse outcomes. This study aimed to employ the SDH framework to identify factors that contribute to suicidal behaviors among this population. METHODS: 1410 HIV-positive MSM were recruited using a web-based questionnaire, whose mean age was 30.77 ± 6.92 years old. Participants completed questionnaires including baseline information and psychological measur

Selective disclosure and different levels of support: strategies for managing intersectional stigma in HIV healthcare engagement.

HIV-related stigma has a significant impact on healthcare engagement and disclosure practices among people living with HIV (PLWH). Although stigma's detrimental effects are documented, few studies explore how intersecting stigmas within clinical and social domains collectively shape these behaviors. In this U.S.-based study, qualitative methods are used to examine how intersectional stigma influences healthcare engagement and selective HIV status disclosure among Black PLWH. An integrated theoretical framework combining intersectionality, socio-ecological models, and health belief models guide

Clinical case study of abbreviated cognitive behavioral therapy through an intersectional lens for women health-care workers during the era of COVID-19.

The unprecedented demands of the coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) have imposed a significant degree of psychological distress on women health-care workers (WHCWs). Women comprise 76% of the health-care workforce in the United States and are subject to experience higher psychosocial ramifications in the pandemic era due to gender disparities. Accordingly, women who are dually mothers may be navigating complex interactions of role strain by managing abnormally high parental and occupational workloads. The psychological toll is exacerbated for women holding multiple oppressed identities across

Operationalizing Trauma-Informed Principles to Build Safe, Inclusive, and Equitable Patient Partnerships in Pediatric Pain Research.

Advancing inclusion in pediatric pain research requires approaches that move beyond recruitment diversity toward authentic partnerships with youth and families whose lived experience can inform scientific rigor, relevance, and ethical integrity. Although patient engagement is widely endorsed, practical guidance for implementing partnerships that are safe, equitable, and sustainable remains limited, especially when working with populations exposed to intersectional marginalization and stigma. In this perspective, we argue that trauma-informed principles provide a critical framework for structur

Proposing an identity-in-context framework for culturally responsive evaluation.

Evaluation exists within social, cultural, environmental, and economic contexts defined by human experience. Taking an identity-oriented, culturally responsive approach to evaluation highlights the consequences of evaluation and how they relate to the social reality and context of priority populations. This article presents a conceptual framework for culturally responsive evaluation (CRE) practice using identity as an orienting construct. The Identity-in-Context Framework (ICF) can help evaluators and practitioners be cognizant of cultural implications for practice and explore how identity int

"Not only standing for, but standing up for diversity": an intersectional qualitative analysis of how university students embody and resist discrimination.

BACKGROUND: Universities are key social institutions that shape student health, wellbeing, and future trajectories. However, they are also embedded in, and contribute to, existing social inequities. Students holding marginalised positions consistently report experiences of discrimination within higher education. Such experiences adversely affect their mental health, sense of belonging, and academic trajectories. Much of this research relies on single-axis analyses, failing to capture the complexity of discrimination. Therefore, this study takes an intersectional, qualitative multi-level approa

Mechanisms of inequitable access to parkinson's disease care: a critical interpretive synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a leading cause of neurological disability among older adults, with an age-standardized global prevalence in 2021 of 139/100,000 and projected to increase by 112% by 2050. People living with PD experience seven times worse health status than the general population. Access to diagnosis, care, and support is particularly challenged by intersecting social and healthcare system complexities. This Critical Interpretive Synthesis aimed to identify mechanisms through which barriers interact to create inequitable access to PD care among underserved populations.

Deep CTS: a Deep Neural Network for Identification MRI of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common peripheral nerve disease in adults; it can cause pain, numbness, and even muscle atrophy and will adversely affect patients' daily life and work. There are no standard diagnostic criteria that go against the early diagnosis and treatment of patients. MRI as a novel imaging technique can show the patient's condition more objectively, and several characteristics of carpal tunnel syndrome have been found. However, various image sequences, heavy artifacts, small lesion characteristics, high volume of imagine reading, and high difficulty in MRI interpretatio
