CD5+ low-grade marginal zone B-cell lymphomas with localized presentation.

Marginal zone B-cell lymphomas (MZBCLs) are low-grade lymphomas that characteristically lack CD5 expression. However, rare cases of MZBCL have been described in which the lymphomatous B cells coexpress CD5 (CD5+ MZBCL). In 7 of 9 reported CD5+ MZBCLs, there was evidence of widespread disease. We report four additional cases of CD5+ MZBCL. Three cases were low-grade B-cell lymphomas of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) involving the lungs, the conjunctiva (bilateral), and the uterus. The remaining case represented a monocytoid B-cell lymphoma involving a posterior cervical lymph node. So

Emerging role of infectious etiologies in the pathogenesis of marginal zone B-cell lymphomas.

Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphomas of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) arise from lymphoid populations that are induced by chronic inflammation in extranodal sites. The most frequently affected organ is the stomach, where MALT lymphoma is incontrovertibly associated with a chronic gastritis induced by a microbial pathogen, Helicobacter pylori. Gastric MALT lymphoma therefore represents a paradigm for evaluating inflammation-associated lymphomagenesis, which may lead to a deeper understanding of a possible etiologic association between other microorganisms and nongastric marg

Marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of the uterus: a case report and review of the literature.

We report here a case of a 52-year-old female in whom immunohistological studies of the uterus established a diagnosis of extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma. Malignant lymphoma arising from mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) of uterus is extremely rare. Accurate histologic interpretation of uterine lymphoma is essential, as treatment options and prognosis vary based on the histological grade of such lymphomas. Patients with primary uterine lymphoma generally have intermediate or high-grade lymphoma and poorer prognosis.

Extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphomas of the uvea: an analysis of 13 cases.

The majority of primary lymphoproliferative lesions of the uvea represent low-grade B cell lymphomas and often display a prominent plasmacellular differentiation. The purpose of the current study was to classify the uveal lymphoproliferations according to the REAL classification; examine the immune profile of the plasmacellular differentiated tumour cells using the plasma cell-related antigens multiple myeloma oncogene-1-protein (MUM1), Vs38c, CD38 and CD138; and to compare this profile with that of mature reactive plasma cells. Following fixation, 13 lymphoproliferative lesions of the uvea we

Occurence of Cutaneous Marginal Zone B-Cell Lymphoma Post Breast Cancer Chemotherapy: A Case Report.

Primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphomas (PCMZLs) are classified as low-grade as they run an indolent course. They are histologically characterized through non-epidermotropic nodular or diffuse infiltrates consisting of small or medium heterogeneous atypical lymphoid cells. In the past few years, chemotherapy has increased the survival rate of breast cancer patients. However, the adverse effects of treatment, such as leukemia, have also been shown to emerge gradually. Additionally, cases of occurrence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) post chemotherapy have also been reported. A 48-year-ol

Marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of the pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue: A case report.

Marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of the pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (pulmonary MALT-MZL) is a common type of primary pulmonary lymphoma, but is rare as a pulmonary malignant tumor. In the present study, a 49-year-old male patient was admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an JiaTong University (Xi'an, China) with a pulmonary lesion in the right upper lung. The patient was diagnosed with pulmonary MALT-MZL subsequent to undergoing chest computed tomography (CT), a routine blood test, pathological and histological examinations, a transbronchial lung biopsy and bronchoscopy.

Splenic B-cell marginal zone lymphoma with marked plasmocytic differentiation: tumor variant from Mott cells?

Splenic B-cell marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) – a rare B-cell non-Hodgkin, s lymphoma, which is represented morphologically by mature lymphoid cells, corresponding to lymphocytes of secondary follicles marginal zone by immunological characteristics. Plasma cell differentiation can be in marginal zone lymphoma, but we described a single case of abundance of Mott cells as a tumor substrate in splenic B-cell marginal zone lymphoma. We present the first case of SMZL represented by Mott cells. This was the second case of Mott cells tumor described in Russia. This observation is the only case among the

Role of 18F-FDG-PET/CT in the management of marginal zone B cell lymphoma.

The use of PET in patients with marginal zone B cell lymphoma (MZL) is controversial because of variability of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) avidity. We analyzed 40 PET/CT in 25 consecutive patients to compare its performance with CT at staging and as a first-line response assessment. Sensitivity of PET/CT and CT was 96 and 76%. Mean standard uptake value was 6.1, 6.9 and 3.4 (p = 0.3) in nodal, extranodal and splenic subtypes, respectively. Of 17 patients (extranodal: n = 9; nodal: n = 6; splenic subtype: n = 2) with both imaging tests available at diagnosis, 8 (47%) had more involved areas with P

A nodular syphilid presenting as a pseudolymphoma: mimicking a cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma.

Syphilis has been referred to as the great imitator, the great mimic, and the great masquerader. It often presents with clinical and histological findings similar to many other dermatological conditions. We report a patient presenting with nodular plaques, a rare form of secondary syphilis. The histological features revealed a pseudolymphoma mimicking a cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphoma. Syphilis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a cutaneous lymphoreticular process.

Relapsed or refractory nongastric marginal zone B-cell lymphoma: multicenter retrospective analysis of 92 cases.

Over its long survival duration, marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZL) routinely involves frequent relapses. In this study, we conducted a retrospective analysis to identify the clinical features and outcomes of relapsed or refractory MZL. From 1995 to 2008, a total of 92 patients with relapsed MZL were retrospectively analyzed. The median age of our subjects was 53.5 years (range: 23-82 years). The most common primary sites of involvement were the orbit and ocular adnexa (28.3%) followed by the lymph node and lymphatic organs (23.9%), and multiple mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) sites

Rituximab-CHOP induced interstitial pneumonitis in patients with disseminated extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphoma.

A 69-year-old male was diagnosed in February 2004 with stage IV extranodal marginal zone B cell lymphoma involving the mediastinal nodes, lung parenchyma and bone marrow with high LDH. Shortness of breath developed following the 5th course of Rituximab-CHOP chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, Vincristine, Doxorubicin, Prednisolone). Bronchoscopy guided transbronchial lung biopsy revealed interstitial thickening and type II pneumocyte activation, compatible with interstitial pneumonitis. After treatment with prednisolone a complete resolution of the dyspnea was observed. The patient was well on rou

Clinical implications of nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma among Japanese: study of 65 cases.

To clarify the clinical presentation and outcome of nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (NMZBL), 65 Japanese patients with this disease were studied and compared with the published literature from western countries. The clinical findings of our 65 cases were similar to those of their cases in some aspects: (1) 58% of the patients were > 60 years old (median age, 64 years); (2) there was a slight female predominance; (3) 90% of the patients exhibited asymptomatic lymphadenopathy in the head and neck area; (4) only a minority of patients had B symptoms (6%) and poor performance status (8%); and
