Sero-surveillance to assess rubella susceptibility and assessment of immunogenicity and reactogenicity of rubella vaccine in Indian girls aged 18-24 years.

Rubella infection though a mild infection, may cause foetal death or a variety of congenital anomalies. Multiple sero-surveys confirmed that 5-10% women are unexposed to natural or vaccinated rubella virus and remain susceptible to rubella infection. The current study was conducted in 600 girls, aged 18-24 y from Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune, India to assess their sero-status against rubella infection and to estimate the immunogenicity of rubella vaccine in achieving sero-protective antibody titres. Prior to administration of a single i.m. dose of rubella vaccine (R-vac®) to

Parents' Attitudes towards Vaccinations Regarding the Ukrainian Migration to Poland in 2022.

Background: Russia's aggression against Ukraine in early 2022 resulted in a large migration of refugees to many countries, including Poland. Vaccination coverage for some infectious diseases in Ukraine is lower than in Poland; consequently, the incidence of infectious diseases-including measles, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, and COVID-19-is higher. We aimed to investigate whether the migration of Ukrainians had influenced decisions of Polish parents on having their children vaccinated and to examine their attitudes towards vaccinations. Material and methods: A cross-sectional online survey stud

Ethical analysis of childhood vaccination information processes among Turkish parents in the United States.

INTRODUCTION: Highly educated, established immigrant populations remain understudied in vaccine-hesitancy research, which has focused primarily on refugee and low-literacy samples. This study examines how foreign-born Muslim Turkish parents in the US experience informed consent for childhood vaccination within a legal context that treats vaccination as a mandatory condition of school enrollment. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive design was employed using semi-structured in-depth interviews with 13 foreign-born Turkish Muslim parents recruited via snowball sampling across five U. S. states. Causal inference, cancer registry data, and a single state policy change: Evaluating Virginia's HPV vaccine mandate.

BACKGROUND: Cancer epidemiologists increasingly contribute evidence evaluating the causal effect of policies on cancer outcomes. The validity of such evidence relies on attention to conceptual, analytic, and data aspects of causal inference research. To highlight these aspects and contribute policy-relevant evidence, we evaluated Virginia's Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination mandate on cervical cancer incidence. HPV vaccination mandates were intended to increase vaccine uptake and reduce cervical cancer incidence, yet causal evidence on cancer incidence remains scarce. Virginia implemented

Smallpox in Greece: A Narrative Review.

Smallpox was a highly contagious viral disease that represented a major cause of mortality prior to its global eradication in 1980. This narrative review explores the epidemiological, historical, and public health dimensions of smallpox in Greece from the 18th to the 20th century. It analyzes documented outbreaks, demographic impacts, and the evolution of disease control measures. Emphasis is placed on Greek physician contributions to early inoculation practices, implementation of vaccination programs, and legislative frameworks including the 1835 mandatory vaccination decree. The progression

Examining the views of key stakeholders regarding the provision of occupational influenza vaccination for healthcare workers in Australia.

Annual vaccination of hospital healthcare workers (HCWs) may be an effective measure to reduce the transmission of healthcare associated influenza. However, vaccine coverage rates among HCWs in most public Australian hospitals are below satisfactory for a number of reasons. This study aimed to examine the opinions of key health stakeholders on current issues regarding HCW influenza vaccination. A qualitative study involving semi-structured interviews was undertaken with key Australian health stakeholders representing different organizations and sectors involved in influenza vaccination and pol

The fight against smallpox during the Savoy kingdom in Genoa between 1815 and 1859.

INTRODUCTION: The article aims to outline the features of the efforts for smallpox eradication within the pre-unitary context of the Kingdom of Sardinia, characterized by a long tradition in medical-health prevention. This tradition is partly inherited from the health magistracies of the Italian states during the ancient regime and partly adopted from policies initially outlined by Napoleon and later by other European states. In addition to prevention activities, authorities also engage in a vigorous information and awareness campaign aimed at eliminating common prejudices and doubts about vac

European survey of hepatitis B vaccination policies for healthcare workers: An updated overview.

BACKGROUND: The risk of transmission of bloodborne pathogens, including hepatitis B virus (HBV) to healthcare workers (HCWs) is well known. In 2005 we performed a survey on HBV prevention in HCWs in the European Union (EU). An update of the 2005 survey deemed necessary as an EU Council Directive (2010/32/EU) on sharps injuries was to be implemented into national legislation by 11 May 2013 and more countries were starting universal HBV vaccination. METHODS: We performed an electronic survey in 2016, among national representatives from the Occupational Medicine section of the European Union of

Low coverage and predictors of vaccination uptake against tick-borne encephalitis in Slovenia.

BACKGROUND: Although vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) was introduced in 1986, Slovenia remains one of the countries with the highest reported incidence rates. For exposed occupationally or during education/training, vaccination is reimbursed by employer or within mandatory health insurance, while others have to pay. Our aim was to obtain the first national estimate of self-reported uptake of vaccination against TBE in a probability sample of the general population aged ≥15 years and identify predictors of self-paid vaccination uptake. METHODS: Two questions on vaccination aga

Vaccination coverage in adults undergoing splenectomy: evaluation of hospital vaccination policies.

Vaccination coverage in 595 adult patients undergoing total splenectomy in the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona during 1992-2002 was studied. The rates of cover for pneumococcal, Haemophilus influenzae type b and meningococcal vaccines were 63, 63 and 61% respectively, during 2000-2002; 32, 17 and 22% in 1997-1999; and 24, 9 and 8% in 1992-1996. Multivariate analysis showed a greater risk of no vaccination in splenectomies due to trauma, malignant neoplasms of solid organs and incidental splenectomy compared with both neoplastic and non-neoplastic haematological disease, and those patients undergo

Exploring the barriers and facilities migrants face in accessing COVID-19 vaccines in Malaysia: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Malaysia provided COVID-19 vaccines for all residents, regardless of citizenship status. However, the extent of vaccine accessibility for migrant populations remains unclear, given the complex healthcare barriers they face. This study explored the barriers migrants faced in accessing COVID-19 vaccines and the measures taken to facilitate their access. METHODS: This qualitative study, conducted between April 2022 and February 2023, involved 32 purposively selected key informants from non-governmental organisations (7), international organisations (2), labour unions (2), healthcare

Compulsory vaccination against COVID-19: a legal and ethical perspective on public good versus personal reticence.

Coercive measures to protect public health are controversial, eliciting questions regarding state-patient relationships and conflicts between individual autonomy and public good. This is challenging in a time when respect for patient autonomy has become elevated yet society faces an increasing number of public health challenges, the most recent being the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19). In that context, there is emphasis on increasing vaccination rates internationally in order to achieve "herd immunity", raising the possibility of compulsory vaccination of populations in the future. Here, we explo

A Case Series of Smallpox Vaccination-Associated Myopericarditis: Effects on Safety and Readiness of the Active Duty Soldier.

Myopericarditis following smallpox vaccination is a documented side effect with increasing incidence since reestablishing mandatory vaccination for deploying military personnel. After the ACAM2000 smallpox vaccine replaced the Dryvax smallpox vaccine, the rate of myopericarditis increased 50-fold.We describe six case reports of active duty soldiers who presented to the emergency department complaining of chest pain shortly after receiving routine pre-deployment vaccinations to include smallpox. All were hospitalized and became non-deployable after developing smallpox vaccination-associated myo

How did Ontario healthcare institutions implement and legitimize Covid-19 vaccine mandates? A qualitative multi‑method study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Upon the WHO declaration of Covid-19 as a pandemic, healthcare workers (HCWs) - unvaccinated by necessity - were celebrated as "heroes" for their service under difficult conditions. Later, as some of them resisted vaccine mandates, they were reframed as "threats", regardless of personal behaviour, workplace setting, or evidence of their harmfulness. This discursive shift and the institutional mechanisms supporting it remain underexamined. GOAL: This protocol outlines a qualitative multi‑method study investigating the implementation of Covid-19 vaccine mandates in medical establish

Extension of French vaccination mandates: from the recommendation of the Steering Committee of the Citizen Consultation on Vaccination to the law.

On 4 December 2017, French parliamentarians passed a law extending the vaccination mandates for children up to 2 years of age from three vaccinations (against diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis) to 11 by adding vaccinations against pertussis, Haemophilus influenza b (Hib), hepatitis B, pneumococcal diseases, meningococcal C diseases, measles, mumps and rubella. This vote follows a recommendation made by the Steering Committee of the Citizen Consultation on Vaccination that took place in 2016. The law applies to all children born after 1 January 2018. Parents who do not fulfil the mandate wi
