Desmoplastic melanoma of the eyelid and conjunctival melanoma in neurofibromatosis type 1: a clinical pathological correlation.

A 56-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) presented with a left upper eyelid amelanotic nodule with adjacent eyelid margin hyperpigmentation. Physical examination additionally revealed primary acquired melanosis (PAM) on the palpebral conjunctiva of the same eyelid. Full thickness eyelid excision and conjunctival map biopsy identified desmoplastic melanoma of the eyelid in addition to invasive conjunctival melanoma and conjunctival melanoma in situ. Sentinel lymph node biopsy was negative for metastasis. She was treated with surgical excision for the eyelid melanoma and topical m

Age-related spinal degenerative diseases: a quantitative analysis of the dynamic evolution, knowledge structure, and research frontiers in neurological damage.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Aging is the primary risk factor for the four major spinal degenerative diseases of lumbar disc herniation (LDH), cervical spondylosis (CS), lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and thoracic disc herniation (TDH). These diseases can lead to severe neurological dysfunction, chronic neuropathic pain and a decline in the quality of life in elderly patients. This article conducts the first simultaneous, comparative bibliometric analysis of these broader age-related spinal degenerative diseases within a unified framework, identifying the mitigation of neurological damage and neuropa

A Mechanism-Centered Text-Mining Landscape of Mitochondrial Bioenergetics and Signaling in Disease Research.

Mitochondria are increasingly recognized as integrated bioenergetic and signaling hubs across disease contexts, but the rapidly expanding literature remains fragmented across mechanisms, diseases, and analytical vocabularies. This study mapped the disease-oriented literature on mitochondrial bioenergetics and signaling from 2014 to 2025 using a mechanism-centered text-mining framework integrating dictionary-based annotation and topic modeling. Records retrieved from Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed were harmonized into a final corpus of 166,462 title-abstract records. Dictionary-based annota

Combining Topic Modeling, Sentiment Analysis, and Corpus Linguistics to Analyze Unstructured Web-Based Patient Experience Data: Case Study of Modafinil Experiences.

BACKGROUND: Patient experience data from social media offer patient-centered perspectives on disease, treatments, and health service delivery. Current guidelines typically rely on systematic reviews, while qualitative health studies are often seen as anecdotal and nongeneralizable. This study explores combining personal health experiences from multiple sources to create generalizable evidence. OBJECTIVE: The study aims to (1) investigate how combining unsupervised natural language processing (NLP) and corpus linguistics can explore patient perspectives from a large unstructured dataset of mod

Global Landscape and Translational Trajectories of Pelvic Floor Muscle Rehabilitation for Urinary Incontinence.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a highly prevalent condition worldwide, with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and overactive bladder (OAB) representing major clinical subtypes. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) has been studied extensively as a conservative intervention for UI, yet the global research landscape of PFMT-related UI studies, particularly in terms of collaboration patterns and evolving research themes, has not been mapped in a targeted manner. This study was aimed at providing a bibliometric overview of publication trends, knowledge structure, and emer

A Prototype Software Framework for Transferable Computational Health Economic Models and Its Early Application in Youth Mental Health.

We are developing an economic model to explore multiple topics in Australian youth mental health policy. To help make that model more readily transferable to other jurisdictions, we developed a software framework for authoring modular computational health economic models (CHEMs) (the software files that implement health economic models). We specified framework user requirements for: a simple programming syntax; a template CHEM module; tools for authoring new CHEM modules; search tools for finding existing CHEM modules; tools for supplying CHEM modules with data; reproducible analysis and repor

Influence of topical application of capsaicin, menthol and local anesthetics on intraoral somatosensory sensitivity in healthy subjects: temporal and spatial aspects.

The aim of this study was to investigate temporal and spatial aspects of somatosensory changes after topical application of capsaicin, menthol and local anesthetics (LA) on the gingiva with the use of intraoral palpometers and thermal devices. Sixteen healthy volunteers (eight male, eight female) participated. Four topical preparations (capsaicin, menthol, LA and Vaseline as a control) were randomly applied to the gingiva around the first premolar in the upper jaw via individual oral templates, which allowed spatial mapping of somatosensory changes at and adjacent to the site of application. Physical, psychological, sexual, and systemic abuse of children with disabilities in East Africa: Mapping the evidence.

Children with disabilities (CWDs) are at a higher risk of being maltreated than are typical children. The evidence base on the abuse of children with disabilities living in low- and middle-income countries is extremely limited but the problem is particularly acute in East Africa. We don't know the types of evidence that exist on this topic. This problem is compounded by the fact that key indicators of disability, such as reliable prevalence rates, are not available currently. This paper addresses this serious problem by mapping the existing evidence-base to document the coverage, patterns, and

Using body mapping to explore perceptions of resilience with 7-12-year-old Muslim children in East London: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Understanding resilience in pre-adolescence is important for informing interventions to promote good mental health. Middle childhood is a critical developmental phase, characterised by significant emotional and behavioural development. However, there is limited research on children's perceptions and diverse experiences of resilience which could inform interventions. Qualitative methods can enable meaningful engagement of children and provide rich insights into perceptions of resilience. This study involved Muslim children in East London, a population disproportionately affected by

Ascorbic acid derivative-loaded modified aspasomes: formulation, in vitro, ex vivo and clinical evaluation for melasma treatment.

Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid) has many favourable effects on the skin such as antioxidant, anti-aging and whitening effects. Its instability and low permeability limit its pharmaceutical use in cosmetic and dermatological products. Instead, Mg ascorbyl phosphate (MAP), an ascorbic acid derivative, has the same effect with higher stability is being used. In this work, a vesicular system, aspasomes, containing MAP was developed and evaluated. Aspasomes are multilayered vesicles formed by amphiphiles molecules, Ascorbyl palmitate (ASP), in combination with cholesterol and charged lipids for drug en

Terminal ulcers in end-of-life care: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: In the final stage of life, the skin may fail, leading to the development of terminal ulcers. These ulcers are considered unavoidable, since they occur despite all pressure-relieving interventions being implemented and the best quality of care being provided. However, they are often misdiagnosed as pressure injuries, since healthcare professionals are not always adequately prepared for this topic. Thus, effective palliative care and palliative wound care is not provided and prevalence data is missed, despite it being considered a solid indicator of the quality of nursing care. Sinc

Comparing the effect of topical anesthesia and retrobulbar block with intravenous sedation on hemodynamic changes and satisfaction in patients undergoing cataract surgery (phaco method).

BACKGROUND: Cataract is one of the most common surgical procedures in the elderly. In most cases, the elderly have cardiac ischemia or chronic coronary diseases, which would lead to more ischemic events during general anesthesia. Therefore, surgeons and anesthetists prefer regional aesthesia to the general one owing to its more advantages and less complications. OBJECTIVES: Therefore, this study aimed to compare topical method and retrobulbar block for pain intensity, patient's satisfaction, hemodynamic changes and intra and postoperative complications.
