To evaluate the prevalence of migraine and related disability and the role of ID migraine questionnaire as a screening tool in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and craniofacial pain (CFP). TMDs patients with CFP underwent stomatognathic (RDC/TMD criteria) and neurological visits (IHS criteria, 2004). ID migraine questionnaire and MIgraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS) were also administered. Out of 45 patients, 69% met diagnosis of migraine plus chronic tension-type headache (CTTH); 9% presented CTTH and 20% were migraineurs. Out of 39 migraineurs who completed MIDAS, 56%

INTRODUCTION: Several studies have reported associations between various autoimmune diseases and migraine. Using Mendelian randomization (MR), this study aimed to evaluate the interplay between autoimmune diseases and migraine.
METHODS: Here, instrumental variables, exposure factors, and outcome factors for 10 common autoimmune diseases and migraine and its subtypes were screened. This screening utilized comprehensive statistics from Europe's largest genome-wide association study and performed reverse MR analysis on positive results. The causality between autoimmune diseases and migraine was

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Headache disorders place a significant burden on the healthcare system, being the leading cause of disability in those under 50 years. Novel studies have interrogated the relationship between headache disorders and gastrointestinal dysfunction, suggesting a link between the gut-brain-immune (GBI) axis and headache pathogenesis. Although the exact mechanisms driving the complex relationship between the GBI axis and headache disorders remain unclear, there is a growing appreciation that a healthy and diverse microbiome is necessary for optimal brain health.

OBJECTIVE: An episodic migraine (EM) may lead to medication-overuse headache (MOH), an abnormal behavioral pattern of noncompliance. Anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and disorders caused by psychoactive substances other than analgesics all have been reported with MOH at higher rates than with EM. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationships between personality traits and anxiety and depressive disorders and headache type.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 55 patients with EM and 50 patients with MOH were recruited from were recruited from 2 university hospital clinics

Botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin, is effective for treating a variety of disorders of involuntary muscle contraction including cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, and hemifacial spasm. It inhibits neuromuscular signaling by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. The biological effects of the toxin are transient, with normal neuronal signaling returning within approximately 3 to 6 months postinjection. Recent clinical findings suggest that botulinum toxin type A may inhibit pain associated with migraine and other types of headache. However, the mechanism by which

The cranial computerized axial tomography (CAT) findings in groups of patients with epilepsy, migraine, hypertension, and other general medical disorders have been reviewed to assess the frequency and patterns of focal and diffuse brain damage. In addition to demonstrating focal lesions in a proportion of patients with seizures and in patients presenting with a stroke, the CAT scan showed a premature degree of cerebral atrophy in an appreciable proportion of patients with long-standing epilepsy, hypertension and diabetes, and in some patients with migraine, valvular and ischaemic, heart diseas

We investigated the comorbidity rate of migraine in outpatients with panic disorder, and the efficacy of pharmacotherapy for both disorders. Fifty-four patients who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) criteria for panic disorder were recruited in the study. Forty-three patients were female, and their age ranged from 20 to 71 (38.8±11.2; mean±S.D.) years. Forty-one patients had agoraphobia. In these patients, we diagnosed migraine and other types of headache, using the International Classification of Headache Disorders, Second

IMPORTANCE: Though it is presumed that children and adolescents with migraine are at risk of internalizing symptoms and disorders, high-level summative evidence to support this clinical belief is lacking.
OBJECTIVE: To determine if there is an association between internalizing symptoms and disorders and migraine in children and adolescents.
DATA SOURCES: A librarian-led, peer-reviewed search was performed using MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, and CINAHL databases (inception to March 28, 2022).

In 2004, the revised International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-II) was published. This study evaluates: (1) the results obtained from applying ICHD-II to children with primary headaches to distinguish between migraine without aura (MO) and tension-type headache (TTH); and (2) the results obtained from introducing modifications of the classification criteria for MO as suggested by various authors. There were 200 participants (93 males, 107 females; age range 3-17 y, mean 9 y 8 mo [SD 2 y 7 mo]). According to the ICHD-II, MO compared with TTH was characterized by: higher intensity

The authors report neurologic features in a large family harboring the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutation T14484C associated with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). In the maternal line the mtDNA mutation was associated with optic neuropathy or migraine with aura or without aura and transient neurologic/visual disturbances. The segregation of familiar cases of migraine and LHON mutation broadens the clinical phenotype associated with a primary LHON mutation.

OBJECTIVE: In this secondary analysis of mobile health headache diary data, we evaluated the relationship between adherence to medication used for the acute treatment of migraine and lifetime history of an anxiety or depression disorder.
BACKGROUND: Medication non-adherence can produce poor clinical efficacy and may be associated with medication overuse. Medication overuse was defined by taking a migraine-specific medication (MSM) for ≥10 days/month, an opioid or barbiturate for ≥10 days/month, or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug for ≥15 days/month and having ≥15 headache days/month. OBJECTIVES: Migraine is the most common etiology of episodic vertigo in pediatric populations. The characteristics of migraine headaches in children differ from those in adults, with initial manifestations frequently presenting as periodic syndromes. Sleep disorders are prevalent among individuals with migraines. Headaches may not be present in early childhood, and children may not easily report aura or phono-photophobia. Therefore, it is essential to identify clinical and anamnesic elements that can support the etiopathogenetic hypothesis of migraine in the assessment of episodic idiopathic v
