Analysis of the reliability of a mobile phone application in craniofacial measurement for obstructive sleep apnea.

PURPOSE: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) disrupts breathing due to upper airway obstruction during sleep. This study presents the development of a mobile application for 2D craniofacial measurements associated with OSA, aiming to provide an accessible approach. METHODS: This single-center, cross-sectional, retrospective analysis utilized data from 128 patients who underwent polysomnography and facial photography. Craniofacial measurements were obtained using the mobile app and standard desktop software (Studio 3®). Measurement reliability and agreement were assessed using the Intraclass Correla

Development of Mobile Application Based on AI for Predicting the Suitable Height of High Heels.

As high heels become increasingly popular in everyday attire, their impact on foot and lower limb health has garnered widespread attention. Wearing high heels of inappropriate height over a long period can cause damage to an individual's ankles, knees, and spine. This study developed a mobile application based on YOLOv8, aimed at providing users with personalized recommendations for the maximum height of high heels, thereby reducing the health risks associated with long-term wear of high heels. Compared to the previous generation system we developed, this generation's system simplifies the ana

Application of mobility training methods in sporting populations: A systematic review of performance adaptations.

This systematic review investigates influences of mobility training in sporting populations on performance outcomes. The search strategy involved Embase, MEDLINE Complete, Sports Discus and manual search from inception to March 2022. Mobility training studies with a minimum three-week, or 10-session duration in healthy sporting populations of any age were included. Twenty-two studies comprising predominantly young adult or junior athletes were analysed from 319 retrieved articles. Performance outcomes were strength, speed, change of direction, jumping, balance, and sport-specific skills. Fifte

Enhancing Healthcare Management: Assessing User Acceptance and Usability of the 'SmartCG' Mobile Application.

In Thailand, increasing caregiving needs for senior citizens, particularly in low-income homes, may elevate the caregiver (CG) burden. This study assesses the user acceptance and usability of the 'SmartCG' mobile application in enhancing healthcare management. The app offers health evaluations, home visits, knowledge management, screening forms, and care plans. Using the Technology Acceptance Model, 402 caregivers from Mahasarakham province evaluated the app's usability on a 5-point Likert scale. Results showed a significant increase in acceptance scores after using SmartCG (11.49 ± 1.54 to 13

Mobility Solutions After a Lower Extremity Fracture and Applicability to Battlefield and Wilderness Medicine.

The potential for delayed evacuation of injured Service members from austere environments highlights the need to develop solutions that can stabilize a wound and enable mobility during these prolonged casualty care (PCC) scenarios. Lower extremity fractures have traditionally been treated by immobilization (splinting) followed by air evacuation - a paradigm not practical in PCC scenarios. In the civilian sector, treatment of extremity injuries sustained during remote recreational activities have similar challenges, particularly when adverse weather or terrain precludes early ground or air resc

Mobile application for home exercise adherence in patients with knee osteoarthritis: A pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The adherence to home exercise is generally low despite its well-known effect on knee osteoarthritis. Therefore, we developed a home exercise application, LongLifeSupport, to provide patients with daily basic exercise videos and an automatic recording calendar. We hypothesized that this application would encourage patients to exercise and help maintain their motivation; this pilot study aimed to determine their exercise adherence rates. Using outcome measures, we also aimed to determine the effect of home exercise using this application and the factors for its continuation. METHOD

Development of Home-Based Exercise Mobile Application for Patients with Peripheral Artery Disease.

This study aimed to develop a home-based exercise application to improve the exercising performance in patients with peripheral artery disease. This application is based on a theoretical framework and is paired with a wearable device, Fitbit Charge4. The application comprised five main categories with 30 screens: login, a record of exercise, goal achievement, information, and motivation. Using the application to nursing practice can manage and encourage patients to exercise without limitations of time and place.

Towards a Sustainable City for Cyclists: Promoting Safety through a Mobile Sensing Application.

Riding a bicycle is a great manner to contribute to the preservation of our ecosystem. Cycling helps to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion, and so, it is one of the simplest ways to lower the environmental footprint of people. However, the cohabitation of cars and vulnerable road users, such as bikes, scooters, or pedestrians, is prone to cause accidents with serious consequences. In this context, technological solutions are sought that enable the generation of alerts to prevent these accidents, thereby promoting a safer city for these road users, and a cleaner environment. A tablet- and mobile-based application for remote diagnosis and analysis of movement disorder symptoms.

One significant hindrance to effective diagnosis of movement disorders (MDs) and analysis of their progression is the requirement for patients to conduct tests in the presence of a clinician. Here is presented a pilot study for diagnosis of essential tremor (ET), the world's most common MD, through analysis of a tablet- or mobile-based drawing task that may be selected at will, with the spiral- and line-drawing tasks of the Fahn-Tolosa-Marin tremor rating scale serving as our task in this work. This system replaces the need for pen-and-paper drawing tests while permitting advanced quantitative

Educating parents about the vaccination status of their children: A user-centered mobile application.

Parents are often uncertain about the vaccination status of their children. In times of vaccine hesitancy, vaccination programs could benefit from active patient participation. The Vaccination App (VAccApp) was developed by the Vienna Vaccine Safety Initiative, enabling parents to learn about the vaccination status of their children, including 25 different routine, special indication and travel vaccines listed in the WHO Immunization Certificate of Vaccination (WHO-ICV). Between 2012 and 2014, the VAccApp was validated in a hospital-based quality management program in Berlin, Germany, in colla

Utility of a Novel Mobile Lip-Reading Application for Patients After Total Laryngectomy.

Total laryngectomy (TL) patients have limited options for speech rehabilitation in the immediate postoperative period, resulting in communication difficulties and patient frustration. This study investigates a novel mobile application (app), Speech Recognition Application for the Voice Impaired (SRAVI), to improve postoperative communication for TL patients. Participants received a tutorial on the technology prior to use and had access to the app throughout their hospital admission. A total of 16 patients were included. Application of Mobile Health Technologies to Prevent Unintentional Childhood Injuries: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Unintentional childhood injuries represent a major public health issue affecting the lives and health of children worldwide, with the risk and injury type dynamically changing with age and developmental stage. To effectively prevent unintentional injuries, intervention measures must be adjusted based on actual circumstances and kept up to date in real time. Mobile health (mHealth) technologies can meet this need, but their specific functions and intervention methods remain unclear at present. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to conduct a scoping review of research on the application of

Total hip arthroplasty rehabilitation through a mobile application: a retrospective observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative rehabilitation following total hip arthroplasty is important for optimising functional recovery and pain relief. This study compares a mobile application providing functional recovery exercises and pain management education with in-person physical therapy in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted with 2 cohorts (n = 94) matched using propensity score matching. The App group (n = 47) used a mobile app for postoperative follow-up, while the control group (n = 47) received conventional follow-up. Functional outcomes (H
