The answer to the question of whether endovascular techniques extend the barriers to treatment in multimorbid vascular patients depends on the localization of the vascular disease and its stage. In multimorbid vascular patients with limited life expectancy and asymptomatic carotid stenosis, neither an endovascular nor an open procedure is indicated but a conservative best medicinal treatment is to be preferred. In symptomatic carotid stenosis the endovascular procedure is indicated for special anatomical conditions, such as contralateral carotid artery occlusion, contralateral recurrent nerve

IMPORTANCE: As the life expectancy of people with Down syndrome (DS) has markedly increased over the past decades, older adults with DS may be experiencing a higher incidence of aging conditions. In addition to longevity, the amyloid precursor protein gene located on chromosome 21 places individuals with DS at a high risk for developing Alzheimer disease. Yet, few studies have determined prevalence of dementia and comorbidities among older people with DS.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of dementia and aging-related comorbidities in older adult individuals with DS.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Comorbidities can influence asthma control and promote asthma exacerbations (AEs). However, the impact of multimorbidity in AEs, assessed based on long-term follow-up of patients with asthma of different degrees of severity, has received little attention in real-life conditions. To describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics and predictors of AEs in patients who had presented at least 1 AE in the previous year in the MEchanism of Genesis and Evolution of Asthma (MEGA) cohort.
METHODS: The work-up included a detailed clinical examination, pulmonary funct

INTRODUCTION: The number of individuals who are diagnosed with cancer and other comorbidities continues to increase, and the average number of comorbidities among racial/ethnic minority patients is higher than non-Hispanic (N.H.)-white patients. Therefore, we explored the association between race/ethnicity, comorbidities, and cancer treatment among older Americans diagnosed with the four most common cancer types.
METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, SEER-Medicare linked data were used to identify 692,159 individuals over 65 years old diagnosed with female breast, colorectal, lung, or

Semaglutide, a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA), has shown robust efficacy in glycemic control, weight reduction, and cardiovascular protection, but concerns remain regarding rare adverse events such as acute pancreatitis. We report a 59-year-old man with type 2 diabetes, stage IIIA colon cancer post-hemicolectomy and chemotherapy, stage 4 chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and dyslipidemia who developed acute pancreatitis after 2.5 years of weekly semaglutide therapy. He presented with epigastric pain and elevated lipase, while abdominal ultrasound revealed o

BACKGROUND: Substantial inequalities in the overall prevalence and patterns of multimorbidity have been widely reported, but the causal mechanisms are complex and not well understood. This study aimed to identify common patterns of multimorbidity in Serbia and assess their relationship with air pollutant concentrations and water quality indicators.
METHODS: This ecological study was conducted on a nationally representative sample of the Serbian population. Data were obtained from the European Health Interview (EHIS) Survey, a periodic study designed to assess population health using widely re

BACKGROUND: Heterogeneity in reported outcomes can limit the synthesis of research evidence. A core outcome set informs what outcomes are important and should be measured as a minimum in all future studies. We report the development of a core outcome set applicable to observational and interventional studies of pregnant women with multimorbidity.
METHODS: We developed the core outcome set in four stages: (i) a systematic literature search, (ii) three focus groups with UK stakeholders, (iii) two rounds of Delphi surveys with international stakeholders and (iv) two international virtual consens

IntroductionThe number of people living with and beyond cancer is increasing rapidly. Many of them will experience ongoing physical or psychological sequelae as a result of their original cancer diagnosis or comorbidities arising from risk factors common to cancers and other long-term conditions. This poses the complex problem of managing cancer as a 'chronic' illness along with other existing comorbidities. This scoping review aims to map the literature available on multimorbidity in patients living with and beyond cancer, to explore, quantify and understand the impact of comorbid illnesses t
