Application of 5-Fluorouracil in management of glandular odontogenic cyst.

Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a rare, aggressive odontogenic lesion that presents in the jaws. It is a diagnostically challenging entity due to its ability to mimic intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma, botryoid cyst, surgical ciliated cyst, and radicular cyst. Treatment ranges from conservative to aggressive surgical interventions due to its varied clinical and radiological appearance and also its potential for recurrence. Aggressive surgical interventions result in the need for surgical site reconstruction, thus increasing patient morbidity. We report a case of GOC in the anterior man

Ameloblastomatous calcifying odontogenic cyst: a rare histological variant.

The calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) occurs mainly as an intraosseous lesion in mandible or maxilla, but the peripheral variation of COC has also been reported. The confusion regarding its nature as cyst or tumour has not been resolved and a vast diversity has been noted in clinicopathological aspects of COC. We report a case of COCs with minimal mural ameloblastomatous proliferation in a 13-year-old girl, who presented with a painless swelling in the left jaw causing mild facial asymmetry.

Machine learning approach using radiomics features to distinguish odontogenic cysts and tumours.

Although most odontogenic lesions in the jaw are benign, treatment varies widely depending on the nature of the lesion. This study was performed to assess the ability of a machine learning (ML) model using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomic features to classify odontogenic cysts and tumours. CT and MRI data from patients with odontogenic lesions including dentigerous cysts, odontogenic keratocysts, and ameloblastomas were analysed. Manual segmentation of the CT image and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map from diffusion-weighted MRI was performed t

Immunohistochemical Evaluation of p300, H2AacK5 and H3AcK27 in Odontogenic Cysts and Tumors.

The acetylation of histones H2A on lysine 5 (H2AacK5) and H3 on lysine 27 (H3AcK27) modulate several cellular mechanisms through the p300 enzyme in pathological lesions; however, their role in odontogenic lesions has not been addressed. This study aims to evaluate the immunoexpression of p300, H2AacK5, and H3AcK27 in samples of ameloblastoma (AMB) (n = 30), odontogenic keratocyst (OK) (n = 15), adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) (n = 10), odontogenic fibroma (OF) (n = 8), calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) (n = 8), odontogenic myxoma (MIX) (n = 10), and ameloblastic fibroma (AF) (n = 06). Dentigerous cysts suspected the other odontogenic lesions on panoramic radiography and CT.

Dentigerous cysts are known as the second most common type of cyst in the jaws. The cyst is one of the lesions occurred frequently in the posterior body of the mandible and is often related to the unerupted third molar and forms around the crown of the unerupted tooth attaching at the cementoenamel junction. Such characteristic appearances are the diagnostic points differentiating from ameloblastoma or odontogenic keratocyst. However, it would be hard for us to diagnose it as a dentigerous cyst if the lesion does not show its typical appearance. We experienced two cases of dentigerous cysts wh

p53 expression and mutation analysis of odontogenic cysts with and without dysplasia.

OBJECTIVE: Overexpression of p53 protein is well described in odontogenic cystic lesions (OCLs), including those with epithelial dysplasia; however, most p53 antibodies stain both wild-type and mutated p53 protein and may not reflect genotype. Direct sequencing of the p53 gene has not identified mutations in OCLs with dysplasia. The purpose of this study was to determine the molecular basis of p53 expression in several types of OCLs with and without dysplasia. METHODS: The study material comprised 13 OCLs: odontogenic keratocyst (n = 5), orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst (n = 5), dentigerous

Cytokeratin expression of the odontogenic epithelia in dental follicles and developmental cysts.

The patterns of cytokeratin expression in the epithelium of 5 dental follicles, 7 dentigerous cysts, 5 odontogenic keratocysts, 3 nasopalatine cysts and an epidermoid cyst have been studies using a panel of monoclonal antibodies. The epithelium of dental follicles and of developmental odontogenic cysts strongly expressed keratins 5 and 19 and showed weaker expression of keratins typical of stratified non-cornified and of simple epithelia. Staining with mAbs against the latter keratins varied with the degree of epithelial differentiation. Nasopalatine cysts strongly expressed simple epithelial

Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising From Odontogenic Cyst Epithelium or Oral Mucosa Epithelium After Marsupialization of Odontogenic Radicular Cyst in Posterior Mandible?

Squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are common malignant tumors in the oral and maxillofacial region. However, SCCs secondary to marsupialization of odontogenic radicular cysts are extremely rare. The authors report an unusual case of a 43-year-old male presented with dull pain in the right molar region of the mandible without numbness of lower lips, who had a long history of smoking, alcohol consumption, and betel nut chewing. Computerized tomography revealed a round well-defined unilocular radiolucent at the apex of lower right premolars, 2 nonvital teeth. The clinical diagnosis was the radicula
