BACKGROUND: Optic disk drusen (ODD) in pediatric patients typically presents with pseudopapilledema. Diagnosing concomitant papilledema due to idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) in these patients can be challenging. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and clinical features of papilledema due to IIH among pediatric patients with a new diagnosis of ODD and to discuss the clinical and paraclinical findings that helped diagnose this group.
METHODS: The medical records of children <15 years of age with ODD confirmed by B-scan ultrasound at their first visit over a 4-yea

PURPOSE: Optic disk pits (ODPs) are typically detected incidentally as small, gray, unilateral, oval-shaped excavation in the temporal optic disk on routine fundus examination. In this cross-sectional retrospective case series, we report optical coherence tomography angiography findings in patients with unilateral ODPs and describe changes in vessel perfusion associated with ODP.
METHODS: A total of eight eyes (four with ODP and four normal contralateral) were included in this study. Patients were excluded if any other optic disk abnormalities were present. Spectral-domain optical coherence t

PURPOSE: The optic nerve mechanically loads the eye during ocular rotation, thus altering the configuration of the disk and peripapillary tissues. We used optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA) to investigate mechanical strains and volume changes in disk and peripapillary blood vessels during horizontal duction.
METHODS: Structural OCT and OCTA were performed centered on optic disks; imaging was repeated in central gaze, and in 30° ab- and adduction. By an algorithm employing point-set registration of 3 D features, we developed a novel approach for measuring disk strains, and s

PURPOSE: Optic disk pit (ODP) is a rare congenital abnormality of the optic nerve head that can lead to a maculopathy characterized mainly by serous retinal detachment. Optic disk pit maculopathy (ODP-M) in children is rare, and at present, the best management is still unknown. Long-lasting ODP-M can lead to organic amblyopia and photoreceptor damage, whereas surgical treatments are invasive and have an uncertain prognosis. We present a case of spontaneous resolution of ODP-M in a child who was monitored morphologically and functionally during a 6-year follow-up.
METHODS: Between January 2010
