Intrusion and apical resorption of mandibular incisors in Begg treatment: anchorage bend or curve?

A statistical evaluation of the apical root resorption in mandibular incisors following Begg treatment in one group with anchorage bends and another group with anchorage curves showed no statistical difference. Although the overbite reduction in both groups were similar, the anchorage curve group was statistically more efficient in incisor intrusion when compared to the anchorage bend group (p < 0.01).

Single Wire with Helices to Guide Different Labially Impacted Canine Eruption -Technique Clinic.

Impacted canines vary greatly in the inclination and location and can lead to resorption of neighboring teeth depending on their location. Occasionally labial impaction of the maxillary canine may occur over the maxillary lateral incisor, over the first premolar, and sometimes over the alveolus in between the lateral incisor and premolar. In this article, we will discuss a multipurpose single wire with 3 helices or 2 helices to guide the labially impacted canine, positioned in different inclinations and located differently on the labial side, so as to provide traction force in proper direction

Class II Malocclusion Treatment Using Combined Twin Block and Fixed Orthodontic Appliances: A Case Series.

The effect of the Twin Block functional orthodontic appliances is mostly dento-alveolar with small skeletal effect. There are certain clinical indications where functional appliances can be used successfully in class II malocclusion, e.g., in a growing patient. The use of these appliances is greatly dependent on the patient's compliance, and they simplify the fixed appliance phase. The use of functional jaw orthopedics, at the correct time during growth, can ultimately result in achieving a broad beautiful smile, an excellent functional occlusion, a full face with a beautiful jaw line and late

Clinical outcome of maxillary arch expansion with clear aligners in mixed dentition: A systematic review.

Maxillary transverse deficiency, affecting approximately 21% of patients in the mixed dentition stage, represents a common skeletal discrepancy in orthodontics. Clear aligners have demonstrated efficacy in achieving maxillary arch expansion, alleviating crowding, and meeting orthodontic treatment objectives. This review aims to systematically evaluate and synthesize the available evidence on the clinical outcomes of maxillary arch expansion using clear aligners in the mixed dentition period. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024542510) and the review followed Preferred Reporting It

Comparative evaluation of vertical dimension changes with clear aligners and fixed appliances: A prospective cephalometric cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The control of vertical dimension remains a critical aspect of comprehensive orthodontic treatment. This study compared vertical dimensional changes produced by clear aligners (CAs) to those produced by fixed appliances (FAs) during comprehensive orthodontic treatment, assessing whether modern aligner therapy provides comparable vertical control with conventional mechanics. METHODS: A prospective cohort of 52 adults (CA group: 26 and FA group: 26) was evaluated. Baseline comparability was confirmed for age, sex, malocclusion type, and skeletal pattern. Standardized lateral cephalo

Treatment of Class II malocclusion with a customized lingual appliance combined with a Class II corrector.

Correcting a complete Class II malocclusion in an adult patient can be quite difficult. If the patient has a large skeletal discrepancy, orthognathic surgery is the treatment of choice. However, if the discrepancy is small or if the situation is borderline and the mandibular incisors are retroclined, Class II correctors can be used. This clinical report presents the orthodontic treatment of a 24-year-old woman with Class II malocclusion. Clinically, her maxilla was slightly protruded, and the mandible was well-positioned. She had uprighted maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth and a deepbite

Mini-implant-supported twin-block appliance: An innovative modification.

Twin block is a commonly used appliance for correction of retrognathic mandible in growing patients. However, it has a drawback of causing lower incisor proclination, which reduces its potential of achieving maximum skeletal effects. Thus, we introduced a novel modification in the present design to facilitate greater anteroposterior effects in skeletal dimension. The aim of the present case reports is to evaluate the efficacy of this modified twin block. Here we present two cases treated with mini-implant-supported twin-block appliance, which successfully controlled the lower incisor position,

Quadhelix appliance therapy resulting in pyogenic granuloma of the tongue.

This paper describes the examination, diagnosis and treatment of a rapidly enlarging tongue mass presenting in a healthy 12-year-old girl. This mass caused distress to both the patient and her parents and diagnostic uncertainty for her general medical and dental practitioners. The lesion was in fact caused by an orthodontic quadhelix appliance and responded to simple treatment.

The effect of bite planes on deepbite correction with clear aligners.

OBJECTIVES: Deep overbite correction with clear aligners faces challenges including decreased anterior intrusion efficiency and spontaneous molar intrusion. Bite planes are often incorporated to address these issues, but their effects remain debated. This study aimed to investigate the impact of bite planes on anterior intrusion efficiency and posterior displacement during a specific deep overbite correction phase using clear aligners. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 36 adult patients with deep overbite who were treated with the clear aligner (Smartee® system) divided
