Methanol is a poison which is frequently discovered in alcoholic beverages. Innovative methods to detect methanol in alcoholic beverages are being constantly developed. We report for the first time a new strategy for the detection of methanol using fluorescence spectroscopy and photoelectrochemical (PEC) analysis. Two series of cationic heteroleptic osmium(ii) complexes with a coordinated CO molecule, a chloride Cl- or hydride H- anion, two monodentate triphenylphosphine (tpp) ligands and one bidentate α-dimine (N∧N) ligand were prepared from an OsCl2(CO)2(tpp)2 precursor. A 4-year-old female Appaloosa horse was referred to the Department of Comparative Pathology, Veterinary Faculty, with a history of colic and acute respiratory distress. At necropsy, gross lesions consisted of extensive firm, multinodular, hemorrhagic foci in fat tissues with yellow-brown discoloration. The most affected areas were peritoneal fat and perirenal, epicardial, and subcutaneous adipose tissues. In the present paper, we report the results we obtained using several cytochemical techniques to analyze the infective larva of Wuchereria bancrofti. An imidazole osmium tetroxide solution was used to visualize unsaturated fatty acids. A highly contrasted material forming a continuous structure was observed on the larval surface and over the epicuticle. Secretory-stage inner dental epithelial cells (IDE) of tooth buds deposited an unmineralized, ectodermally-derived, enameloid collagen matrix. The ultrastructure of endochondral bone was studied using an aqueous solution of chromic potassium sulphate as the decalcifying agent. 0.5 mm thick sections of rat tibiae were fixed in buffered glutaraldehyde, immersed in an aqueous solution of 1% chromic potassium sulphate pH 3.4, dehydrated and embedded in Poly Bed 812 without exposure to osmium tetroxide. Light and electron microscopy were used to study specimens from four patients suffering from lamellar ichthyosis. Three of these patients had been treated with etretinate for 10 months. Biopsy specimens taken from the patients before treatment showed hyperkeratosis with focal parakeratosis, a thickened granular layer in which the cellular content of tonofibrils and keratohyalin was moderately diminished, and acanthosis with increased cellular activity. The gross morphology, density, distribution and ultrastructure of the Langerhans cell of the normal human exocervix were investigated. Two standardized zinc-iodide-osmium (ZIO) procedures were applied to epithelial sheets as well as to tissue samples processed for both light and electron microscopy. Highly siderophile elements (HSEs) are expected to be extensively depleted in the mantle due to their affinity for metal during core formation. Yet, their abundances in the mantle far exceed the predictions based on low pressure and low temperature partitioning experiments. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of cardiopulmonary by pass(CPB) on pulmonary surfactant (PS) activity.
METHOD: In 12 children with patent ductus arteriosus(PDA) and 19 patients with ventricular septal defect (VSD), saturated phosphatidylcholine (SatPC), total phospholipids (TPL), total protein (TP) and surfactant protein-A(SP-A) in sequential airway aspirates before and after operation were determined. Tetroxide osmium digestion and neutral alumina column chromatography were used for SatPC, and a modified immunoblot method with a rabbit anti-human SP-A polyclonal antibody for SP-A measurment.

AIMS: To report an unusual case of invasive breast ductal carcinoma associated with non-caseating epithelioid granuloma and unusual deposition of amyloid.
METHODS: Formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded tissue from breast and lymph nodes were stained with a variety of methods. Representative tissue fragments were sampled and fixed in 2.5% buffered glutaraldehyde, postfixed in 1% osmium tetroxide, dehydrated and embedded in Araldite. Fetal alcohol syndrome was produced in rats by feeding an ethanol-enriched, vitamine -supplemented liquid diet over a period of 4 weeks before mating and throughout pregnancy. We have examined the umbilical cord of ten newborn children of nonsmoking (five) and of smoking (five) mothers (10-20 cigarettes/day). This review concerns the present state of accomplishments in the study of SEM of human and experimental renal disease. A method is described for localizing acid mucopolysaccharides autoradiographically in cultured cells. Normal fibroblasts and fibroblasts, from patients suffering from Mucopolysaccharidosis II disease (MPS II), were cultured for six days in the presence of 35SO4 and one day in unlabelled medium.
