Excite, or Take Flight? Exploring the Relationship between Difficulties with Emotion Regulation, Outcome Expectancies, and Problem Gambling.

Emotional dysregulation is a transdiagnostic process associated with a range of addictive behaviours including problem gambling, with emerging research indicating that emotionally oriented reasons for gambling (i.e., excitement, escape) are associated with problem gambling. However, the relationships between difficulties with emotion regulation, reasons for gambling, and problem gambling, are unclear. The current study tested whether the association between difficulties with emotion regulation and problem gambling could be explained by escape and excitement gambling outcome expectancies. A tot

The impact of patients' pre-treatment expectations on immunosuppressive treatment outcomes in myasthenia gravis: A pilot correlational study.

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: The impact of treatment expectations on active treatment outcomes has not been specifically investigated in neuromuscular disorders. We thus explored in myasthenia gravis (MG) the contribution of patients' pre-treatment expectations combined with an immunosuppressant drug on treatment outcomes. METHODS: This pilot correlational study involved 17 patients with generalized MG, scheduled to start immunosuppressant azathioprine. At baseline, a healthcare professional administered: (i) the Stanford Expectations of Treatment Scale; (ii) a structured checklist paper form asking pa

Outcomes of the Expectant Management of 10 Cesarean Scar Pregnancy Cases in Patients Who Refused the Termination of Pregnancy.

OBJECTIVE: Expectant management of cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) in patients who refuse termination of pregnancy and continue with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is possible with multidisciplinary care and careful monitoring in a tertiary care center. Doctors with the relevant expertise in managing PAS use highly accurate ultrasound as a tool to diagnose, monitor, and manage this disorder, which enables them to determine appropriate surgical strategies and techniques to achieve optimum maternal and fetal outcomes with minimal blood loss and no major maternal mortality and morbidity. Investigating the Relation between Anxiety Sensitivity and Substance Use: What Are the Roles of Social Anxiety and Outcome Expectancies?

Objective: Research on the association between anxiety sensitivity (AS) and substance use is mixed, with some studies showing a positive association and others showing no association. Other relevant variables, such as social anxiety and outcome expectancies, may help us understand how and for whom AS is linked to substance use. This study tested (a) the associations between AS and alcohol use, cannabis use, and drinking games and pregaming behaviors among young adults, and (b) the mediating role of social anxiety and moderating role of outcome expectancies in these associations. Method: Partic

Individual recovery expectations and prognosis of outcomes in non-specific low back pain: prognostic factor review.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is costly and disabling. Prognostic factor evidence can help healthcare providers and patients understand likely prognosis, inform the development of prediction models to identify subgroups, and may inform new treatment strategies. Recent studies have suggested that people who have poor expectations for recovery experience more back pain disability, but study results have differed. OBJECTIVES: To synthesise evidence on the association between recovery expectations and disability outcomes in adults with low back pain, and explore sources of heterogeneity. SEARCH METH

Performance monitoring in the anterior cingulate is not all error related: expectancy deviation and the representation of action-outcome associations.

Several converging lines of evidence suggest that the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is selectively involved in error detection or evaluation of poor performance. Here we challenge this notion by presenting event-related potential (ERP) evidence that the feedback-elicited error-related negativity, an ERP component attributed to the ACC, can be elicited by positive feedback when a person is expecting negative feedback and vice versa. These results suggest that performance monitoring in the ACC is not limited to error processing. We propose that the ACC acts as part of a more general performanc

Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension: Patient Selection, Procedural Pearls, and Expected Outcomes.

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a progressive condition characterized by persistent thromboembolic disease in the pulmonary arteries, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance and right heart failure. Medical therapy offers symptomatic relief but is not curative. Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) remains the gold standard treatment; however, patients are often ineligible for surgery due to unfavorable anatomy, comorbidities, or preferences. Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) has emerged as a minimally invasive alternative, particularly for patients with i

What to expect after a tibial tubercle osteotomy? A 10-year retrospective study of clinical and radiologic outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Patellofemoral instability (PFI) is a multifactorial entity that combines osseous and soft tissue abnormalities. Tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) addresses biomechanical malalignment but faces 50 % recurrence rates with TT-TG >20 mm. Long-term outcomes show 62.5 % success at 10-15 years post-TTO, though 16-21 % require reoperations. Current evidence lacks long-term data, underscoring the need for individualized surgical planning. This study evaluates 10-year outcomes via MRI and clinical outcomes to identify predictors of suboptimal results. METHODS: A retrospective observational
