This study was designed to examine the relationship between fetal heart rate variability and fetal cerebral oxygen uptake. Fetal sheep were chronically prepared with catheters and electrodes to determine cerebral blood flow (microsphere method), cerebral arteriovenous oxygen difference, and the electrocardiogram.
