BACKGROUND: Non-dermatophyte onychomycosis (NDO) is caused by a wide range of mold fungi other than dermatophytes, and has been reported at various rates in different countries worldwide. Studies on the incidence of NDO in the community are essential for understanding its epidemiology and control, as well as for the appropriate treatment of these infections.
OBJECTIVES: In this study, the incidence of NDO in Tehran, Iran, was compared to the incidence of onychomycoses due to dermatophytes and yeasts.

The degradation of phenylacetate (PA) was investigated as a model to explore aromatic compound breakdown in the fungal system. Fungal strains capable of utilizing PA as their sole carbon source were isolated using a minimal solid medium supplemented with 0.5 % PA. BACKGROUND: Fungal keratitis is a refractory disease, and cases caused by filamentous fungi are particularly challenging to manage. Considering that the depth of corneal infiltration influences both treatment and visual prognosis, the ability of causative fungi to grow at corneal and anterior chamber temperatures was hypothesized to contribute to the progression of lesions from the deep cornea into the anterior chamber. This study investigated the relationship between the growth temperature of filamentous fungi isolated from keratitis and the depth of corneal infiltration.

This study examined the viability and diversity of fungi harbored in imported wooden handicraft products sold in six retail stores in Florida, United States. PURPOSE: To report 5 cases of culture-proven fungal keratitis that resolved with moxifloxacin monotherapy.
METHODS: Case reports and review of medical literature. Five patients with fungal keratitis were treated with topical moxifloxacin.
RESULTS: All 5 patients had resolution of their infection with topical moxifloxacin monotherapy.

Mold contamination is a major cause of spoilage in ripened cheeses. In this study, 171 fungal isolates were recovered from semi-hard Caciocavallo cheese sampled across three seasons.
