[MRI-CT fusion image navigation during surgery for inverted papilloma].

We report two cases of intraoperative computer-aided surgery using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/computed tomography (CT) fusion imaging for inverted papilloma (IP). Case 1: IP had spread to the frontal recess/sinus so we chose a combined endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) and external approach. Case 2: For a maxillary sinus tumor, we combined ESS and the adjuvant external (Caldwell-Luc) procedure. This is helpful to surgeons when, shifting fusion imaging when opening the frontal sinus bone to obtain CT data, and shifting to MRI to detect the tumor pedicle, then approaching the bone defect usin

Treatment results of sinonasal inverted papilloma: an 18-year study.

BACKGROUND: This article reviews our treatment results of sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) over the past 18 years. A retrospective observational study was performed. METHODS: Fifty-six patients with SNIP seen between 1990 and 2008 with follow-up of >2 years were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Forty patients (71%) had primary endoscopic resection and 16 patients (29%) had endoscopic-assisted external approaches. Ten patients (18%) had small nasoethmoid residual disease resectable under local anesthesia in the outpatient department. Eight patients (14%) had recurrences requiring revisio

[Inverted papilloma of the pyelo-ureteral junction, current literature data].

The authors report the fourth case of inverted papilloma of the ureteropelvic junction since the first description of this lesion in 1963 by Potts and Hirst. In view of the rarity of this lesion and its unusual presentation, they conducted an exhaustive review of the literature concerning inverted papillomas of the upper urinary tract. This proliferative lesion of the urothelium can precede, accompany or follow superficial or invasive urothelial tumours. Rigorous treatment and surveillance are therefore justified to detect an associated tumour. The controversy concerning the benign nature of i

Endoscopic surgical treatment of nasal and paranasal sinus inverted papilloma.

Most of the papers written in the past regarding surgical treatment of nasal and sinus inverted papilloma recommend aggressive surgical treatment-usually a medical maxillectomy with external or transantral ethmoidectomy. However, since the introduction of endoscopic diagnostic and surgical techniques for the treatment of nasal and sinus disease, the treatment of inverted papilloma requires review. In Europe, Waitz and Wigand1 and Draf* routinely treat inverted papilloma endoscopically, reserving extensive surgery for papilloma involving the maxillary sinus or for recurrent disease. Unveiling an Inverted Papilloma of the Bladder: A Case Series and Literature Review.

Bladder inverted papilloma (BIP) is a rare, benign urothelial lesion that can mimic urothelial carcinoma endoscopically but is characterized histologically by an endophytic growth of anastomosing urothelial cords without muscular invasion. We report a single-center case series of four patients managed with complete transurethral resection between January 2022 and August 2025, with the inclusion criterion being a histopathological diagnosis: a 28-year-old man with a trigonal lesion complicated by bladder perforation that healed uneventfully, a 72-year-old man in whom a small peri-orificial lesi

Inverted ductal papilloma: report of a rare case and review of the literature.

Inverted ductal papilloma is an uncommon benign papillary endophytic tumor. This report aimed to present a case of inverted ductal papilloma of the oral cavity. A 54-year-old female patient presented with an asymptomatic nodular lesion on the lower lip. Time of duration was undetermined. The diagnostic hypotheses were fibrous hyperplasia and benign mesenchymal neoplasm. An excisional biopsy was performed, and microscopic examination showed an endophytic proliferation of squamous cells with the presence of microcysts, and goblet cells arranged in nest and islands. No cellular atypia was observe

A metagenomic analysis of the virome of inverted papilloma and squamous cell carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: Inverted papilloma (IP) is a sinonasal tumor with a well-known potential for malignant transformation. The role of human papillomavirus (HPV) in its pathogenesis has been controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine the virome associated with IP, with progression to carcinoma in situ (CIS), and invasive carcinoma. METHODS: To determine the HPV-specific types, a metagenomics assay that contains 62,886 probes targeting viral genomes in a microarray format was used. The platform screens DNA and RNA from fixed tissues from eight controls, 16 IP without dysplasia, five I

A Large Pleomorphic Adenoma in Nasal Cavity Misdiagnosed as Inverted Papilloma.

Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is a benign tumor characterized by slow-growing mixed tumors in the craniofacial area. It is relatively common in salivary glands; however, PA of the nasal cavity, which arises in the minor salivary glands, is rare. We present the case of a large PA in the nasal cavity of an adult immunocompetent woman with nasal obstruction and intermittent epistaxis. Based on preoperative radiologic examinations, she was misdiagnosed with an inverted papilloma. Endoscopic resection was performed under general anesthesia. Pathologically, the patient was confirmed to have PA, which has

Endoscopic Modified Medial Maxillectomy for Inverted Papilloma of the Maxillary Sinus.

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) is a benign tumor that can be surgically managed by an endoscopic approach. However, SNIP has a high recurrence rate, mainly due to incomplete resection. AIM: This study aimed to analyze the outcomes of endoscopic modified medial maxillectomy in treating SINP originating from the maxillary sinus. METHODS: The authors retrospectively analyzed 24 patients treated for SNIP via endoscopic modified medial maxillectomy at our institution between August 2014 and June 2019. During surgery, the mucosa involved in the tumor was stripped, and the bone und

A Case of Inverted Papilloma of The Mastoid Cavity After Cholesteatoma Surgery.

An inverted papilloma is a benign neoplasm that occurs exclusively in the sinonasal cavity; an inverted papilloma involving the mastoid cavity is extremely rare. We present the case of a patient with an inverted papilloma of the mastoid cavity secondary to cholesteatoma surgery. No case that occurred after acquired cholesteatoma has been reported in literature. A 39-year-old female who was diagnosed with cholesteatoma was treated with a modified radical mastoidectomy in 1988. After recurrence, the patient underwent a canal wall down mastoidectomy in 2006. Four years later, the patient complain

Management of Inverted Papilloma During Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate.

Inverted papilloma of the prostatic urethra is an especially rare finding. A 75-year-old man with urinary retention wished to proceed with a holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and was found to have a mass arising from his prostate vs bladder on preoperative imaging. Cystourethroscopy revealed the mass arising from the median lobe of the prostate. After transurethral resection and frozen analysis confirmed the benign pathology of an inverted papilloma, the patient subsequently underwent a successful HoLEP during the same surgical setting. Images of this rare prostatic mass are pr

Different endoscopic strategies in the management of recurrent sinonasal inverted papilloma.

Sinonasal inverted papilloma (IP) is noted for its high rate of recurrence. Although many clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the endoscopic approach for IP, only a few published reports have studied the efficacy of endoscopic surgery for recurrent IP, and the surgical approach has been the subject of much debate. In this study, our objective was to demonstrate the effectiveness and limitations of 3 different endoscopic procedures used for the treatment of recurrent IP. From January 2001 to June 2008, 26 patients with recurrent IP were treated with endoscopic surgery. Previ

Detection of human papillomavirus DNA in oral inverted ductal papillomas.

AIMS: To determine the presence or absence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA in oral inverted ductal papillomas (IDPs) using in situ hybridisation (ISH), and to analyse all cases for histological features of HPV infection. METHODS: Six cases were retrieved from archival material and paraffin wax blocks were submitted for the detection of HPV DNA by means of ISH. A wide spectrum probe for HPV subtypes 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 51, and 52 was used initially. Cases that were positive using this wide spectrum probe were further subtyped using HPV type specific probes (6/11, 16/18, and 31/33). Th
