Physicians' attitudes, beliefs, and practices regarding AIDS health care promotion.

While there is now evidence that health-promoting education can be effective at reducing transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, little is known of the role of the practicing physician in this process. We have surveyed 301 practicing physicians in Northeastern Ohio over a 2-year period and we have assessed their attitudes, beliefs, and practices regarding preventive education with particular reference to HIV. We have found that while the majority of physicians believe strongly that HIV prevention is important and that physicians should play a prominent role in education,

The effect of remote treatment on medical provider creative thinking and patient disclosure: protocol for the MED-CREATE trial.

BACKGROUND: Open doctor-patient communication is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. However, the communication modality (video consultation vs. in-person visit) may impact the process and create tradeoffs. Previous research suggests that while online communication negatively affects creative thinking, it can also enhance disclosure. This study seeks to investigate how the communication modality utilized in medical settings influences both creative idea generation on the part of clinicians and disclosure on the part of patients. Drawing upon established frameworks in heal

Factors Associated with Corticosteroid Adherence in Sarcoidosis.

PURPOSE: We measured corticosteroid medication adherence (CMA) in sarcoidosis patients and analyzed if demographic and clinical factors, beliefs about medications, corticosteroid side-effects, psychosocial status, and the doctor-patient relationship were associated with corticosteroid adherence. METHODS: Sarcoidosis patients receiving corticosteroids were eligible to participate. CMA was measured using the Medication Adherence Response Scale-10 (MARS-10), a validated patient reported outcome measure (PRO). Data collection included patient demographics and clinical variables to assess their sa

Impact of Pharmacist-Led Interventions on Phosphate Binder Adherence and Clinical Outcomes in a Dialysis Population.

Patients receiving kidney replacement therapy (KRT) experience high medication burden and are at increased risk for medication-related problems and non-adherence. The objective of this study was to evaluate pharmacist-led interventions on adherence and phosphorus control. It was a prospective, three-phase study integrating a pharmacist into a hospital-based dialysis program that provided hemodialysis (chronic, acute, and in-patient), peritoneal dialysis, and home hemodialysis. This study showed improved adherence, phosphorus control, and reduced discrepancies among the studied population. Phar

Delayed Access Is a Migraine Risk Factor: Precision Triage as the Missing Link in Modern Headache Care.

Migraine care has become scientifically precise while many patient pathways remain operationally imprecise. Diagnostic criteria, global burden data, migraine-specific preventive therapies, and emerging digital tools are available, yet many patients still experience delayed diagnosis, underestimated disability, escalating acute medication use, and late access to prevention. This perspective argues that delayed access should be understood not merely as an administrative barrier, but as a modifiable risk factor that may contribute to migraine progression, medication overuse, and avoidable disabil

Nontraditional treatments for localized prostate cancer: ten rules to know before talking to my patients.

There is accumulating evidence that nontraditional treatments used by the general population are experiencing a dramatic increase. The use of these treatments by prostate cancer patients seems to at least parallel or exceed that of recent surveys for other groups. Unfortunately, much of the attention of nontraditional treatments has focused on "what to take and not to take," rather then "how to approach" the use of these therapies. One of the most widely used nontraditional treatments is the use of supplements. Outlined here are 10 general rules that the clinician should know before consulting

The Combined Effect of Psychological and Relational Aspects on Cardiac Patient Activation.

The literature assumes that activating patients in the treatment is associated with positive health-related outcomes, such as clinical indicators in the normal range, high medication adherence, and low emergency department utilization. In the cardiac population, patient activation, that is the patient's knowledge, skills, confidence, and behaviors needed for managing one's own health and health care, has been less investigated. In addition, limited attention has been given to the role of the partner as an informal caregiver. However, the patient in the care process is rarely alone, and the par

Refractory primary medication nonadherence: Prevalence and predictors after pharmacist counseling at hospital discharge.

Successful secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease relies on medication therapy; thus, minimizing nonadherence is a focus for improving patient outcomes. Receipt of discharge medication counseling has been associated with improved drug knowledge and adherence. We evaluated the prevalence and predictors of postdischarge primary nonadherence (not filling new prescriptions) in patients who received discharge medication counseling by a pharmacist (ie, refractory to intervention) as part of a randomized controlled trial. Of 341 patients, 9.4% of patients did not fill all prescriptions after
