Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Patients with Upper Extremity Arthritis: Overview of Systematic Reviews.

BACKGROUND: Arthritis leads to disabilities impacting patients' physical and mental health. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize the evidence on measurement properties of the patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for people with upper extremity arthritis. DESIGN: Overview of systematic reviews (SRs). METHODS: We performed an electronic search of 6 databases to retrieve SRs looking at any measurement property related to PROMs for people with upper extremity arthritis. Two authors rated the risk of bias (ROB) of the included SRs using AMSTAR. We extracted data on measurement properties from each SR.

Comparative Analysis of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Proximal Hamstring Injuries: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: There is controversy regarding which patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) should be used for proximal hamstring tendon injuries. HYPOTHESIS: It was hypothesized that (1) most (>50%) of the questions on the 13 most common PROMs for proximal hamstring injuries would demonstrate extensive overlap in the health domains and question categories and (2) each of the PROMs would contain a variable distribution of questions within each health domain. STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: We conducted a literature review through PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL and identified the 13 mos

Patient-reported outcomes and outcome measures in childbirth perineal trauma research: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: In evaluating the effectiveness of interventions in perineal trauma research, outcomes reported by patients should have a prominent focus. There is no international consensus regarding the use of either patient-reported outcomes (PROs) or tools used to determine these outcomes (patient-reported outcome measures, PROMs). The objective was to evaluate the selection, reporting and geographical variations of PROs and PROMs in randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on perineal trauma. METHODS: We performed a systematic review of RCTs in perineal trauma research evaluating

Evaluation of Measurement Properties of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures After Rhinoplasty: A Systematic Review.

IMPORTANCE: The number of available rhinoplasty outcome measurement instruments has increased rapidly over the past years. A large heterogeneity of instruments of different quality now exists, causing difficulty in pooling and comparing outcome data. OBJECTIVE: To critically appraise, summarize, and compare the measurement properties of all patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) that measure functional or aesthetic symptoms of patients undergoing rhinoplasty, using consensus-based methodology and guidelines. This facilitates an evidence-based recommendation on the most suitable instrument

Patient-reported outcome measures used in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) is a rare chronic, cholestatic liver condition in which patients can experience a range of debilitating symptoms. Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) could provide a valuable insight into the impact of PSC on patient quality of life and symptoms. A previous review has been conducted on the quality of life instruments used in liver transplant recipients. However, there has been no comprehensive review evaluating PROM use or measurement properties in PSC patients' to-date. The aim of the systematic review was to: (a) To identify and categori

A codevelopment process to advance methods for the use of patient-reported outcome measures and patient-reported experience measures with people who are homeless and experience chronic illness.

INTRODUCTION: People who experience social disadvantage including homelessness suffer from numerous ill health effects when compared to the general public. Use of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) enables collection of information from the point of view of the person receiving care. Involvement in research and health care decision-making, a process that can be facilitated by the use of PROMs and PREMs, is one way to promote equity in care. METHODS: This article reports on a codevelopment and consultation study investigating the use of P

Patient and Treatment Characteristics Associated With Receipt of Core Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in VA Mental Health.

OBJECTIVE: Measurement-based care (MBC) has been implemented in Veterans Affairs since 2016 and is increasingly used in other mental health care organizations. Little quantitative research exists that assesses patient-level barriers and facilitators of MBC. This study examines correlates of receiving patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) among veterans receiving both psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy (Both), psychotherapy only (Psychotherapy), and pharmacotherapy only (Pharmacotherapy). METHODS: Data on PROM administration were obtained for a 12-month period for 1,726,578 veterans who ini

Validation of novel patient-centred juvenile idiopathic arthritis-specific patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROMs/PREMs).

BACKGROUND: Measuring the outcomes that matter to children and young people (CYP) with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), is a necessary precursor to patient-centred improvements in quality of clinical care. We present a two-centre validation of novel JIA patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROM and PREM) developed as part of the CAPTURE-JIA project. METHODS: CYP with JIA were recruited from paediatric rheumatology clinics, completing the CAPTURE-JIA PROM and PREM, CHAQ and CHU 9D. A subset participated in face-to-face interviews and completed the PROM/PREM 1 week later. The O

Revealing the Patient Perspective: Evolution of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Botulinum Toxin Studies in Aesthetic Medicine.

BACKGROUND: OnabotulinumtoxinA has been licensed for the treatment of upper facial lines for over 20 years. Patient benefits extend well beyond correction of the lines themselves-including positive effects on confidence, self-esteem, feelings of attractiveness, and age appearance. Regulatory bodies recommend that patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are routinely included in registrational studies to ensure the patient perspective is considered. Essential guidance is available from regulators and other expert groups to aid the development, validation, and use of appropriate PROs. AIMS: To reflect

Patient understanding of two commonly used patient reported outcome measures for primary care: a cognitive interview study.

BACKGROUND: Standardised generic patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) which measure health status are often unresponsive to change in primary care. Alternative formats, which have been used to increase responsiveness, include individualised PROMs (in which respondents specify the outcomes of interest in their own words) and transitional PROMs (in which respondents directly rate change over a period). The objective of this study was to test qualitatively, through cognitive interviews, two PROMs, one using each respective format. METHODS: The individualised PROM selected was the Measure Yo
