In South Korea, multicultural (damunhwa) adolescents represent a growing population that continues to encounter identity-based discrimination in school and peer contexts. Using six annual waves of data from multicultural adolescents in South Korea (N = 1635; 50.5% girls; ages 10-16), this study employed random-intercept cross-lagged panel models to examine within-person prospective associations among discrimination, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and perceived family, peer, and teacher support. Higher-than-usual life satisfaction predicted lower subsequent perceived discrimination across all

This article examines Latine immigrants' perceptions of group status relative to White and Black individuals, highlighting how these perceptions shape their understanding of the US racial hierarchy. Focusing on the role of social interactions, the analysis explores equitable interactions (e.g., with a neighbor, coworker, or friend) and nonequitable interactions (e.g., with a supervisor) and their association with perceived status relative to each group. It also considers how experiences of discrimination and anti-Latino treatment influence these perceptions. Findings indicate that respondents

BACKGROUND: The exploration of discrimination, social acceptance, and their impact on the psychological well-being of older men who have sex with men (MSM) is a critical area of study within the broader field of LGBTQ+ research. This demographic, comprising individuals who identify as both male and homosexual and are aged in the older spectrum of the population, faces unique challenges that intersect age, sexual orientation, and societal attitudes. Objectives This study aimed to explore the relationship between social acceptance and isolation with discrimination and the impact on the psycholog

PURPOSE: Sexual minority individuals experience unique minority stressors leading to negative clinical outcomes, including disordered eating. The psychological mediation framework posits that stress related to discrimination, internalized homonegativity, and concealment makes sexual minority individuals more vulnerable to maladaptive coping processes, such as rumination, known to predict disordered eating. The current study examined the influence of sexual minority stressors and rumination on disordered eating, and whether these associations differed between sexual minority men and women. We h

BACKGROUND: Social climate refers to the general feelings, norms, and opinions in a society and may be affected by experiences of discrimination. This study examined whether experiences of discrimination are associated with the social climate of physical (in)activity and support for policies addressing dual benefits of physical activity (PA) and climate change.
METHODS: Data from the 2023 Social Climate Survey were used (n = 1950; ≥18 y). Adherence to PA guidelines, perceived importance of PA, social norms, and support for 8 policy actions addressing dual benefits were each regressed on exper

INTRODUCTION: Biracial individuals, a subset of the fastest growing population segment in the United States, frequently experience conflict with ethnic identity, according to marginality theory. Ethnic identity is associated with perceived discrimination and self-esteem, and each of these factors is associated with alcohol and marijuana use. Some research suggests that Black-White biracial individuals have specific challenges with ethnic identity, discrimination, and self-esteem, as well as have disproportionate rates of alcohol and marijuana use separately. Co-use of these substances is linke

Background and aims Several pain conditions have been shown to reduce the discriminative abilities of external stimuli. The aim of this study was to investigate how cutaneous sensitization affects the tempo-spatial discrimination for both painful laser stimulation and mechanical stimulation. Methods Fifteen healthy subjects were presented with two different stimulation paradigms, a continuous line stimulation and a 2-point stimulation. Line stimulations were delivered in two different directions in lengths of 25, 50, 75, and 100 mm. Two-point distances from 0 to 100 mm were tested. The subject

BACKGROUND: Stress, depression, and racial discrimination occurring in pregnant women have demonstrated associations with adverse birth outcomes, but their role during and after the COVID-19 pandemic among women living with HIV (WLHIV) has not been evaluated.
METHODS: We conducted surveys in pregnant and postpartum WLHIV participating in the US-based SMARTT study, asking them to report their experiences of social distancing, trauma and violence, and changes in housing, income, sleep and energy levels resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Women were also asked about their levels of perceived s
