The acquisition of contextual cueing effects by persons with and without intellectual disability.

Two experiments were conducted to compare the acquisition of contextual cueing effects of adolescents and young adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) relative to typically developing children and young adults. Contextual cueing reflects an implicit, memory based attention guidance mechanism that results in faster search for target locations that have been previously experienced in a predictable context. In the study, participants located a target stimulus embedded in a context of numerous distracter stimuli. During a learning phase, the location of the target was predictable from the loca

Assessment of mobility status and risk of mobility disability in older persons.

The ability to remain mobile is an essential aspect of quality of life and is critical for the preservation of independence in old age. One of the cornerstones of comprehensive geriatric assessment is the evaluation of functional and mobility status, because it provides clinicians pivotal information on overall health status, quality of life, needs for formal and informal care, and short and long term prognosis. As a consequence, many assessment tools have been developed and proposed for clinical use, including simple self-report measures assessing basic abilities and more complex and challeng

[Cervico-omo-brachial pain and disability in a person of advanced age].

A person of advanced age usually has degenerative changes of bone, joint and ligament, which can be causes of cervico-omo-brachial pain and disability. He or she may also suffer from metastatic bone tumor of cervical spine or upper extremity. This article described pathology, signs and symptoms and recent treatment of these diseases. Cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy, which are most common causes of cervico-omo-brachial symptoms, are sometimes accompanied by peripheral entrapment neuropathy such as cubital tunnel syndrome or carpal tunnel syndrome (double crush syndrome). In this complicat

Nigeria's mental health and substance abuse bill 2019: Analysis of its compliance with the United Nations convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Countries are struggling with reconciling their national mental health legislation with the CRPD approach, which stresses equality as the focal point of legislation, policies, and practices that affect people with disabilities. Several failed attempts have been made over the last two decades to update Nigeria's obsolete mental health legislation. The most recent attempt is the Mental Health and Substance abuse Bill 2019, which aims to protect the rights of people with mental health needs. It addresses many areas neglected by previous bills, such as non-discrimination of people with mental and

Intersectional Barriers to and Facilitators of Educational Inclusion for Persons With Disabilities in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: in low- and middle-income countries, the exclusion of persons with disabilities from education is influenced by a combination of structural, environmental, and psychosocial constraints. These challenges are further compounded by intersecting factors such as gender, socioeconomic status, and geographic location, which deepen existing inequalities. Gaining insight into these overlapping dynamics is essential for advancing inclusive education. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted across Google Scholar, PubMed/MEDLINE, ERIC, and African Journals Online, yielding 132 r

Heart rate responses, agreement and accuracy among persons with severe disabilities participating in the indirect movement program: Team Twin-an observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Heart rate (HR) monitors are rarely used by people living with disabilities (PLWD), and their accuracy is undocumented. Thus, this study aims to describe the HR response during the Team Twin co-running program and, secondly, to assess the agreement and accuracy of using HR monitors among PLWD. METHODS: This 16-week single-arm observational study included 18 people with various disabilities. During the study, the subjects wore a Garmin Vivosmart 4 watch (wrist). To evaluate the agreement and accuracy we applied Garmin's HRM-DUAL™ chest-worn HR monitors for comparison with the Viv

Encompassing the complexity of personality to understand its association with disability in multiple sclerosis.

While specific personality traits have been associated with disability in multiple sclerosis (MS), less is known about how combinations of these traits relate to disability. This study explored personality profiles in people living with MS (PwMS) and their associations with disability. Eighty-two PwMS (55 women, 27 men; mean age = 45.7 years) were assessed using the NEO-Personality Inventory-third edition, the Expanded Disability Status Scale, and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0. Cluster analysis including 30 personality facets identified two profiles, labeled

'Telehealth for all': capitalising on the power of virtual healthcare for persons with disability in India.

INTRODUCTION: Virtual healthcare holds significant potential to advance inclusive healthcare for persons with disabilities in India, supporting the World Health Organization's goal of Universal Health Coverage. However, individuals with disabilities often face barriers to accessing virtual healthcare due to a lack of disability-inclusive infrastructure, technology, and operational support, which further limits equitable service delivery. This study aimed to investigate the experiences of persons with disabilities and their caregivers regarding virtual healthcare services in India. The focus wa

Beyond Personal Pathology: Disability and Suicidality among Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Suicide rates among Indigenous Peoples in Canada remain significantly higher than those in non-Indigenous populations, yet explanations have mostly focused on individual and clinical factors. This study offers a sociological perspective by framing suicidality as an anomic response to structural frustration and strain caused by settler colonialism. In this view, patterns of suicidality, like patterns of drug use, are seen not as symptoms of personal pathology but as effects of structural harm experienced by Indigenous communities. Using data from the 2017 Aboriginal Peoples Survey, the analysis
