Myoclonic epilepsy with ragged-red fibers (MERRF) syndrome is a rare syndromic mitochondrial disorder (MID) with a broad phenotypic but narrow genotypic heterogeneity. One of the predominant phenotypic features in addition to myopathy is epilepsy. The most frequent seizure type in MERRF is generalised myoclonic seizure but also focal myoclonic, focal atonic, generalised tonic-clonic, generalised atonic, generalised myoclonic-atonic, typical absences, or tonic-clonic seizures of unknown onset have been reported. Forty children with dyslexia, aged 7-12 years, have been randomized into two groups in an open controlled study: 18 of them received Nootropil (piracetam) in the dose of 100 mg/kg daily for 2 months and 22 were examined as a control group. BACKGROUND: Status Epilepticus (SE) is a life-threatening neurological emergency requiring appropriate therapy to terminate seizure activity. Granuloma annulare (GA) is a benign, granulomatous cutaneous disease without clear etiology. Disseminated and drug induced granuloma annulare is a rare presentation. We present a 47-year-old woman with diffuse circular erythematous eruptions following treatment with levetiracetam. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate of the efficacy and safety of adjunctive levetiracetam (LEV) in children younger than 4 years with refractory epilepsy.
METHODS: One hundred and twelve children at age of 4 months to 4 years with refractory epilepsy received LEV as adjunctive therapy. LEV was administered in two equal daily doses of 10 mg/kg. The dose was increased by 10 mg/kg every week up to the target dose (20-40 mg/kg). The efficacy and tolerability were evaluated.
RESULTS: At an average follow-up period of 13 months (6-22 months), LEV administration was found to be effective in 43 children (38.4%)

Levetiracetam is considered by many clinicians to be one of the most benign antiepileptic medications available. We report the case of a 24-year-old man presenting with seizures for which he was started on levetiracetam.
