BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Postural balance deficit is one of the common post-stroke disabilities. Providing visual biofeedback while balance activities are performed is a way to improve postural balance disorders following stroke. But among the research publications, there is incoherency about the positive effects of visual biofeedback therapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of using visual biofeedback as an adjunct to physical therapy exercises on recovery of postural balance of stroke patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 31 hemiplegic stroke patients were recr

This study investigated the influence of succimer chelation therapy in eliminating and/or minimizing lead-associated impairments of motor functions such as postural balance and locomotion or gait activities. In this study, postural balance and functional locomotion or gait were quantitated in 161 children in Cincinnati enrolled in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double blind clinical trial. In comparison to the placebo group, the succimer therapy group showed significantly decreased postural sway during dynamic task performance implying improved postural balance. The results from locomotion

OBJECTIVE: Balance and postural-control impairments are common after stroke and can restrict mobility and independence, but the effectiveness of robot-assisted rehabilitation for these outcomes remains uncertain. This umbrella review aimed to summarize and critically appraise evidence from systematic reviews on robot-assisted rehabilitation for balance function and postural control after stroke.
METHODS: This umbrella review was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD420261426090). PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched from inception to March 30, 2026. Eligi

Postural control during quiet stance is characterized by the center of pressure (CoP) time series. Recently, we showed that CoP data from healthy young (HY) and elderly (HE) individuals, and patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) can be well fitted by the intermittent control model with different parameter values representing the degree of intermittency in the feedback control. We performed a model-based classification (MBC) to show that the subjects could be classified into intermittent control (INT) group including all HYs, active (CONT) and passive continuous control (STIFF) groups includin

BACKGROUND/AIM: Changes in balance and postural control have been reported during the perimenopausal period. We investigated the effect of medial longitudinal arch height and medial arch support insoles on postural sway and balance in middle-aged perimenopausal women.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 29 women with normal arches and 29 women with low arches were included in the study. The foot arches of the participants were determined using the arch height index. The static balance index (SBI) measured by Kinesthetic Ability Trainer 3000 and functional reach test were used to evaluate postural balance.

Spontaneous gait is often asymmetrical in individuals post-stroke, despite their ability to walk more symmetrically on demand. Given the sensorimotor deficits in the paretic limb, this asymmetrical gait may facilitate balance maintenance. We used a split-belt walking protocol to alter gait asymmetry and determine the effects on dynamic and postural balance. Twenty individuals post-stroke walked on a split-belt treadmill. In two separate periods, the effects of walking with the non-paretic leg, and then the paretic one, on the faster belt on spatio-temporal symmetry and balance were compared be

INTRODUCTION: Incomplete postural control often occurs after vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery. Customized vestibular rehabilitation in man improves and speeds up this process. Animal experiments have shown an improved and faster vestibular compensation after administration of the gamma-aminobutyrate acid (GABA)-beta agonist baclofen.
OBJECTIVE: To examine whether medical treatment with baclofen provides an improvement of the compensation process after VS surgery.
DESIGN: A time-series study with historical control.
SETTING: Tertiary referral center.
METHODS: Thirteen patients who underwe

Camptocormia (CC) in Parkinson's disease (PD) is a disabling axial postural deformity characterized by involuntary thoracolumbar flexion. Although trunk orthoses are used for management, correcting the flexed posture may disrupt compensatory strategies for postural instability and potentially worsen dynamic balance. We report the case of a man in his 80s with PD (Hoehn & Yahr stage 3) who exhibited upper CC. We evaluated the immediate effects of a Jewett brace on posture and balance using a three-dimensional motion analysis system (Vicon, Oxford Metrics Ltd., Oxford, UK). Outcome measures incl

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) requires more professional exercise modalities to improve the efficiency of treatment. Adaptive posture-balance cardiac rehabilitation exercise (APBCRE) is an emerging, balance-based therapy from clinical experience, but lacks evidence of validity. Our study aimed to observe and assess the rehabilitation effect of APBCRE on patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). All participants received one-month APBCRE therapy evenly three times per week and two assessments before and after APBCRE. Each assessment included cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), resting me

Impaired postural control has been associated with poor reading skills, as well as with lower performance on measures of attention and motor control variables that frequently co-occur with reading difficulties. Measures of balance and motor control have been incorporated into several screening batteries for developmental dyslexia, but it is unclear whether the relationship between such skills and reading manifests as a behavioural continuum across the range of abilities or is restricted to groups of individuals with specific disorder phenotypes. Here were obtained measures of postural control

This study aimed to assess the differential impacts of lumbosacral orthosis (LO) wear in different sitting conditions through posturographic measurements. Twelve healthy subjects sat on a force platform with three variable stability levels (stable and on seesaws with a long and short radius, inferring slightly and highly unstable sitting, respectively) and three orthosis conditions (no LO, neutral LO, lordotic LO). Using fractional Brownian motion modelling of the centre of pressure (CoP) displacements, it appears that a stable sitting position did not highlight any particular differences betw

RATIONALE: The coexistence of stroke and sarcopenia increases the risk of functional decline, falls, and disability. Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) emphasizes diaphragmatic breathing, intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) regulation, and coordinated stabilizer activity; however, its role in post-stroke patients with sarcopenia remains uncertain.
PATIENT CONCERNS: The patient presented with significant balance impairment, a heightened fear of falling, and impaired coordinated movement of the right upper and lower limbs, resulting in substantial limitations in activities of daily living and

BACKGROUND: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), which is the most common type of scoliosis, is a progressive disease that occurs in children aged 10-16 years. Abnormal curvature in AIS provokes spinal asymmetry of the upper body alignment and might deteriorate postural balancing and control ability.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of exercise interventions on balance and postural stability in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
METHODS: Embase, Scopus, Pubmed (Medline) and Web of Science databases were searched using the terms idiopathic scoliosis, physiotherapy, and balance.

The benefit of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is that it alleviates pain caused by osteoarthritis; however, other postoperative effects on physical function are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the differences in physical function, proprioception, muscle strength, postural balance, and walking in older women with and without TKA. A total of 36 participants were included in this study; the TKA group comprised older women who underwent TKA (n = 18) and the non TKA group comprised older women who did not undergo TKA (n = 18). All the participants were evaluated for physical function, propr
