Assigning Article-Level Themes in Bibliometric Analysis: Mode-Based Mapping Approach Using JMIR Aging Publications.

BACKGROUND: Although clustering techniques are commonly used in bibliometric analysis to identify research themes, few studies systematically assign these themes back to individual articles. This gap limits the interpretability of findings and hinders granular, article-level longitudinal analysis. OBJECTIVE: This study introduces the Theme Assignment Algorithm for Articles (TAAA), a data-driven framework designed to map clustered themes to individual publications. We demonstrate its utility by identifying dominant research patterns and thematic shifts within JMIR Aging. METHODS: TAAA was app

Follow-up investigation of ethics approvals and regulatory compliance in publications from the IHU-Mi.

BACKGROUND: Following our previous investigation of 456 articles published by the IHU-Méditerranée Infection (IHU-Mi) institute in Marseille, France, subsequent editorial actions, institutional reviews, and reports from French authorities provided additional evidence relevant to our concerns. We therefore extended our investigation to the broader IHU-Mi bibliography to assess potential breaches of the Declaration of Helsinki, French regulations governing research involving human participants, and the consistency between reported studies and the ethics approvals cited. METHODS: We assessed 2,6

Trauma Surgery Research in Aotearoa New Zealand: A Review of 25 Years of Trauma Publications.

BACKGROUND: Trauma remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, and New Zealand is no exception, with around 50 000 annual hospitalizations and over NZ$10 billion in associated economic burden. Despite the development of national systems such as the New Zealand National Trauma Network (NTN) and Trauma Registry (NZTR), geographical disparities and inequities in access to trauma care persist. This review aims to better understand the quantity and quality of trauma surgery research in New Zealand, as it remains essential to guide evidence-based improvements. METHODS: A bibliometr

The evolution of sepsis publications and global productivity: A bibliometric analysis between 1980 and 2020.

The literature study was conducted by using the Web of Science (WoS) database, employing bibliometric analysis to examine all papers released from 1980 to 2020. The search was performed using the terms "sepsis, septicemia, septic shock" specifically within the titles of the publications. The findings of the literature research revealed a total of 51,725 articles. Out of the total number of publications, 26,896 articles were identified, accounting for 51.9% of the total. The bibliometric study revealed that the United States had the largest number of papers (8693), followed by China (2807), Ger

GPT-4 performance on querying scientific publications: reproducibility, accuracy, and impact of an instruction sheet.

BACKGROUND: Large language models (LLMs) that can efficiently screen and identify studies meeting specific criteria would streamline literature reviews. Additionally, those capable of extracting data from publications would enhance knowledge discovery by reducing the burden on human reviewers. METHODS: We created an automated pipeline utilizing OpenAI GPT-4 32 K API version "2023-05-15" to evaluate the accuracy of the LLM GPT-4 responses to queries about published papers on HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) with and without an instruction sheet. The instruction sheet contained specialized knowledge

Measuring the impact of health research data in terms of data citations by scientific publications.

Health is a representative domain data-driven research since health research data are growingly generated at a massive scale. There is an intuitive logic that the degree to which disease burden and the number of data resources align. In order to figure out disease-specific data sharing and reuse level, we took the number of data records and their citations in the scientific literature in the Data Citation Index platform as approximate indicators. The results indicated that only a small percentage (7.5%) of health data records had received documented citations by scientific publications. We fin

Racial mixture, blood and nation in medical publications on sickle cell disease in 1950s Brazil.

This paper investigates continuities and changes in the definition of sickle cell disease in 1950s Brazil, taking into account that diseases have a history and are recognized as such according to the knowledge and perceptions available in a certain historical period and specific location. In the post-war era, new diagnostic tools, inheritance theories and, in particular, discussions on the concepts of race and racial relations, both nationally and internationally, were changing previous racialist and racist views. Nonetheless, the Brazilian medical interpretations of sickle cell disease contin

[Subclinical endometritis in dairy cattle and its effect on fertility--a review of recent publications].

Reduced reproductive performance in dairy cattle is often caused by uterine disorders. Beside acute metritis and chronic endometritis recent reports on a negative impact of subclinical endometritis on reproductive performance have been published. Diagnosis of subclinical endometritis can be performed by ultrasonography or cytological examination of the uterus. The cytological examination is based on uterine lavage or the cytobrush-method. Prevalence of subclinical endometritis in different studies ranges from 16 to 90 percent and depends on the diagnostic method and the time postpartum when th

Non-communicating multiseptate gall bladder and choledochal cyst: a case report and review of publications.

A 14 year old girl with multiseptate gall bladder and cystic dilatation of the biliary tree is presented. This is the 20th published case report of patients with multiseptate gall bladder and only the second to be associated with a choledochal cyst. The cystic spaces of the gall bladder did not communicate with the neck of the gall bladder or the rest of the biliary tree, and this unusual feature has not been previously described. A multiseptate gall bladder with a normal biliary tree commonly causes symptoms suggestive of cholecystitis, although gall stones are seldom present. Diagnosis is co
