Copper-catalyzed VOCs formation and combustion control during pyrolysis of waste polyester-imide enameled wires.

The emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the pyrolysis of waste enameled wires poses a significant challenge to green and sustainable recycling. This study systematically investigates the formation mechanisms and mitigation strategies for VOCs during the pyrolysis of waste polyester-imide enameled wires, with a focus on the catalytic role of copper. Combining thermogravimetric analysis, PY-GC/MS, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we demonstrate that VOCs emissions primarily occur between 500-700 °C, generating alkanes, alkenes, and aromatic compounds. DFT reveal

Enhanced microwave assisted pyrolysis of waste rice straw through lipid extraction with supercritical carbon dioxide.

A combination of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) extraction and microwave-assisted pyrolysis (MAP) have been investigated for the valorisation of waste rice straw. ScCO2 extraction of rice straw led to a 0.7% dry weight yield of lipophilic molecules, at elevated temperatures of 65 °C and pressures of 400 bar. Lipid compositions (fatty acids, fatty alcohol, fatty aldehydes, steroid ketones, phytosterols, n-alkanes and wax esters) of the waxes obtained by scCO2 were comparable to those obtained Soxhlet extraction using the potentially toxic solvent n-hexane. ScCO2 extraction positively infl

Quantitative Low-Field 19 F Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Analysis of Carbonyl Groups in Pyrolysis Oils.

Pyrolysis bio-oils, one of the products of lignocellulosic biomass pyrolysis, have the potential to be widely used as fuels. The chemical composition of bio-oils is very complicated as they contain hundreds, if not thousands, of different, mostly oxygen-containing, compounds with a wide distribution of physical properties, chemical structures, and concentrations. Detailed knowledge of bio-oil composition is crucial for optimizing both the pyrolysis processes and for any subsequent upgrading into a more viable fuel resource. Here we report the successful use of low-field, or benchtop, nuclear m

Enhanced Dispersibility of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesized by Laser Pyrolysis with Isopropanol Vapors as Sensitizer.

The present study investigates the synthesis and dispersibility process of iron oxide nanoparticles using laser pyrolysis with isopropanol vapors as a sensitizer agent. Similar to previous experiments (iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized by laser pyrolysis using ethylene as sensitizer gas), iron pentacarbonyl (Fe(CO)5) was employed as an iron precursor; however, instead of the classic ethylene, isopropanol was chosen as a sensitizer, which indicated beneficial features (especially enhanced dispersibility in water) in the as-synthesized nanoparticles. Structural and elemental analysis confirme

The effect of ZnSO4 and Fe2(SO4)3 on the pyrolysis of cocoa shells: A tg-FTIR study.

Pyrolysis stands out as one potential route for valorizing abundant agro-industrial cocoa residues. However, the products of this reaction, particularly bio-oil, do not possess the required quality for direct use in many applications. Thus, this study explores the use of iron sulfate and zinc sulfate as potential catalysts in the pyrolysis of these residues. In this investigation, the biomass, previously ground and dried, was impregnated with varying percentages of ferric sulfate and zinc sulfate. The TG-FTIR technique was employed to ascertain the effect of these salts on the pyrolysis of coc
