Rodent-borne parasites in Qatar: A possible risk at the human-animal-ecosystem interface.

Rodents are known reservoirs for a diverse group of zoonotic pathogens that can pose a threat to human health. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate these pathogens to institute prevention and control measures. To achieve this, the current study was conducted to investigate the frequency of different parasites in commensal rodents in Qatar. A total of 148 rodents, including Rattus norvegicus, Rattus rattus, and Mus musculus were captured using traps placed in different habitats such as agricultural and livestock farms, residential areas, and other localities. Blood, feces, ectoparasite, and

Ceftriaxone-induced hepatotoxicity in patients with common medical infections in Qatar: A retrospective study.

INTRODUCTION: Ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin, is frequently used for the treatment of various bacterial infections as a broad-spectrum antibiotic for many decades. Although ceftriaxone is a well-tolerated drug in most cases, it can lead to serious liver injury, which can be a real challenge to the treating physician. Given the potentially serious adverse effects that can vary from mild biochemical abnormalities to complete liver failure, we intend to assess the spectrum of liver injury based on biochemical criteria for patients treated with ceftriaxone for common bacterial infec

Socio-demographic influences on the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections among workers in Qatar.

BACKGROUND: The rapid growth of Qatar in the last two decades has been associated with an enormous expansion of building programs in its cities and in the provision of new service industries. This in turn has attracted a large influx of immigrant workers seeking employment in jobs associated with food handling, domestic service, and the building industry. Many of these immigrants come from countries in the tropics and subtropics where intestinal parasitic infections are common. In this study, we explored the environmental and socio-demographic characteristics of immigrant workers in Doha Qatar

Perspectives of future water sources in Qatar by phytoremediation: biodiversity at ponds and modern approach.

Anthropogenic and industrial wastewater (IWW) could be an additional future source of water to support the needs of the people of the State of Qatar. New lagoons have been built using modern technologies to optimize water use and waste recycling, as well as increasing the green spaces around the country. To achieve successful development of these new lagoons, lessons should be learned from the old ponds by examining their biodiversity, ecology, and the roles played by aquatic plants and algae to remediate wastewaters at these ponds. The perspectives of using IWW (from oil and gas activities),
