Topical and systemic retinoids for the treatment of cutaneous viral warts: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Cutaneous viral warts (CVW), caused by human papillomavirus, often have a self-limited course. However, some patients experience a recalcitrant disease despite treatment. Retinoids are considered the mainstay of therapy in many dermatologic diseases. Data on their use for viral warts are limited. To systematically review the published evidence on the efficacy and safety of retinoids for the treatment of CVW. A systematic review and meta-analysis of topical or systemic retinoid treatment for CVW was performed in accordance with the PRISMA statement. The primary outcome was clinical response; se

Clinical effectiveness and components of Home-pulmonary rehabilitation for people with chronic respiratory diseases: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are common and disabling conditions that can result in social isolation and economic hardship for patients and their families. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves functional exercise capacity and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) but practical barriers to attending centre-based sessions or the need for infection control limits accessibility. Home-PR offers a potential solution that may improve access. We aim to systematically review the clinical effectiveness, completion rates and components of Home-PR for people with CRDs compared with

Pulmonary Hypertension and Kidney Disease: A Review of a High-Risk Patient Population.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a multifaceted disease driven by increased pulmonary vascular resistance and right ventricular afterload, eventually progressing to right-sided heart failure and a high mortality rate. Kidney dysfunction, a common comorbidity in patients with PH, complicates treatment and impacts prognosis. In this literature review, we seek to broadly explore this coincidence of diseases, primarily focusing on chronic kidney disease (CKD) developing after a primary diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). We discuss prevalence, pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease,

Sclerotherapy for low-flow vascular malformations of the orbital and periocular regions: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Percutaneous sclerotherapy is an alternative strategy for the treatment of vascular malformations of the orbital and periorbital regions. The safety and efficacy of sclerotherapy in this setting have not been fully established. We present the results of a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the safety and efficacy of percutaneous sclerotherapy for the treatment of vascular malformations of the orbit. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, and EMBASE from 2000 to 2018 for studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of percutaneous sclerotherapy for orbital and periorbital vascular malformations.

Expanding Indications for Flow Diverters: Ruptured Aneurysms, Blister Aneurysms, and Dissecting Aneurysms.

BACKGROUND: The safety and efficacy of flow diversion (FD) in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms have been reported by many studies. FD has enabled the treatment of complex aneurysms and aneurysms that were previously untreatable by conventional means. It has achieved high rates of obliteration with essentially no recanalization, and its indications have continued to expand, now including ruptured aneurysms, blister aneurysms, and dissecting aneurysms. OBJECTIVE: To provide a review on the outcomes of studies covering the use of FD in the settings of ruptured, blister, and dissecting aneurys

Initiation of buprenorphine in the emergency department or emergency out-of-hospital setting: A mixed-methods systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: People who use substances increasingly access healthcare primarily through emergency medical services (EMS) and emergency departments (EDs). To meet the needs of these patients, EMS and EDs have become access points for medications for opioid use disorder (OUD), specifically buprenorphine. This systematic review aimed to quantify the efficacy of these programs, examining retention in treatment for OUD, rates of re-presentation to ED or EMS, and rates of precipitated withdrawal, as well as summarise clinician and patient perspectives on buprenorphine initiation in these settings.

Catheter-related bloodstream infections in intensive care units: a systematic review with meta-analysis.

AIM: This paper is a report of a systematic review and meta-analysis of strategies, other than antimicrobial coated catheters, hypothesized to reduce risk of catheter-related bloodstream infections and catheter colonization in the intensive care unit setting. BACKGROUND: Catheter-related bloodstream infections occur at a rate of 5 per 1000 catheter days in the intensive care unit setting and cause substantial mortality and excess cost. Reducing risk of catheter-related bloodstream infections among intensive care unit patients will save costs, reduce length of stay, and improve outcomes. METH

Secondary prevention lifestyle interventions initiated within 90 days after TIA or 'minor' stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of rehabilitation programmes.

BACKGROUND: Strokes are often preceded by a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or 'minor' stroke. The immediate period after a TIA/minor stroke is a crucial time to initiate secondary prevention. However, the optimal approach to prevention, including non-pharmacological measures, after TIA is not clear. AIM: To systematically review evidence about the effectiveness of delivering secondary prevention, with lifestyle interventions, in comprehensive rehabilitation programmes, initiated within 90 days of a TIA/minor stroke. Also, to categorise the specific behaviour change techniques used. DESIGN
