Among secondary metabolites, alkylresorcinols are considered particularly important for the antimicrobial defense system in cereal grains. Dry rye caryopses and young seedlings contain detectable quantities of resorcinolic lipids. Overall, 11 distinct alkylresorcinol homologues were identified, which showed variable profiles during rye germination and early seedling development, especially with reference to the production of very long homologues and to side chain saturation. Additionally, changes in the alkylresorcinol composition during rye seedling growth are presented for the first time.

INTRODUCTION: The most common clinical manifestation of mango allergy is contact dermatitis, which can be localized or systemic. The sensitising substances that have long been suspected are alk(en)yl catechols and/or alk(en)yl resorcinols.

In this work, pristine carbon aerogels (CAs) were used as Pt-free counter electrodes (CEs) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by varying the molar ratio of their precursors. Pristine mesoporous CAs with controlled resorcinol (R)/formaldehyde (F) and resorcinol (R)/sodium carbonate (C) molar ratios were successfully prepared. The alkylresorcinol (AR) content of Swedish wheat grain samples, as well as of cereal ingredients and cereal foods containing wheat and rye, was determined. We present a novel postinfarction ventricular septal defect repair, through a single ventriculotomy, using a biseptal double patch and gelatin-resorcinol-formaldehyde glue. This technique reduces the postoperative recurrence of ventricular septal defects by reducing the tension on the patch sutures and by preventing blood from infiltrating into the suture lines within the ventricular septal defect cavity.

Mann et al. (2018) use recombinant human tyrosinase to screen for novel inhibitors of pigmentation. They develop thiamidol, a new thiazolyl-resorcinol derivative, that is a submicromolar tyrosinase inhibitor and effective for treating solar lentigines. Thiamidol and established inhibitors of pigmentation exhibit substantially different activities on human and mushroom tyrosinase, supporting use of the human enzyme in high-throughput screens.
