BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: In prior studies, age, race, job category, disability, and cortical functions such as praxis, language, and memory have been associated with vocational outcome, but the influence of stroke location on return to work has never been critically examined.
METHODS: We examined the influence of stroke location on vocational outcome in patients with clinically confirmed acute ischemic stroke from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Stroke Data Bank.
RESULTS: Of 143 patients working full time at the time of first ischemic stroke, 23 patients were dead

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of patient demographics, clinical features, and job-related factors on the time until return to work after carpal tunnel release surgery.
METHODS: We employed a cross-sectional community-based study of 59 patients who had undergone carpal tunnel release surgery. Sociodemographic, clinical, and job-related characteristics and time to return to work were obtained by interview and from medical records. Exposure to ergonomic risk was derived from an independently validated job matrix. Time to return to work after surgery was analyzed by survival techniques.

PURPOSE: Research on the therapeutic alliance (TA) has largely focused on therapist-patient dyads, overlooking the complexity of multi-actor and intercultural contexts such as work rehabilitation. This study examines how the TA is constructed and negotiated within a multidisciplinary return-to-work program involving immigrant workers in Québec.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using a qualitative case study design, the study combines participant observation and semi-structured interviews with seven injured immigrant workers.
RESULTS: Our findings suggest that the therapeutic alliance may be better und

Rupture of a cerebral aneurysm and the resulting subarachnoid hemorrhage often lead to early and long-term neurological deficits. These impairments significantly limit daily functioning and hinder return to work. The ability and timing of return to work after interventional treatment depend on multiple clinical and individual factors. The aim of the study was to review evidence on return to work among patients following surgical and endovascular treatment of ruptured cerebral aneurysms. The review included 27 publications from 1999-2025 on return to work after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhag

IMPORTANCE: There is a paucity of research on the experiences of physicians who attempt to transition back to work after a life-threatening illness or medical event. Given ongoing shortages, support of these physicians can impact workforce sustainability. Understanding the experience of physicians during this time of transition and the support that they need is essential.
OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the individual experiences of physicians who have had life-threatening illnesses or medical events, including their attempts to return to work and the tensions they encountered.

INTRODUCTION: Over 30% of temporary aircrew incapacitations are musculoskeletal, with 20% involving the shoulder. The purpose of this study was to analyze return to work (RTW) after shoulder surgery in an aviation-focused surgical practice serving a civilian commercial major airline's crew.
METHODS: This retrospective case series reviewed shoulder surgical procedures performed at a specialized orthopedic practice between 2023-2024, excluding second opinions, conservative treatments, and follow-up cases from other surgeries. Unrestricted and full RTW was defined as the days from surgery to the

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common upper-limb entrapment neuropathy and remains a major contributor of work-related disability. While Carpal Tunnel Release (CTR) reliably improves symptoms, functional recovery is less consistently reported. Return-to-Work (RTW) has emerged as a practical functional outcome, but definitions and reporting remain heterogeneous. We conducted a narrative review of English-language studies reporting RTW or work-absence outcomes following open, endoscopic, ultrasound-guided, ultraminimally invasive, and microinvasive CTR techniques. Due to variability in

This study explores the theoretical foundations and practical applications of medical certification within the sickness benefit systems, particularly in the context of Korea's pilot program and its planned national rollout. While sickness benefit systems have long existed in many Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries, Korea has only recently initiated pilot projects, largely prompted by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. These systems aim to compensate for income loss due to illness or injury, and medical certification plays a central role in determining el

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Return to work is an important objective and measure of treatment success in the working-age population. Many patient-related factors have been shown to be associated with failure to resume working postoperatively. The aim of this longitudinal database study was to determine return to work rates in a 24-month follow-up after lumbar fusion. We also evaluated whether return to work was affected by the physical demand of work or the preoperative dominance of leg or back pain.
METHODS: 348 consecutive patients available to the workforce underwent lumbar fusion. Return to w

BackgroundsSince 2022, South Korea has enacted the "Serious Accident Punishment Act" to enhance the safety of industrial workers. However, serious industrial accidents have continued to occur since the Act's implementation. The COVID-19 pandemic has seen an increase in both the number and severity of these accidents. This highlights the need for better policies to prevent accidents and provide comprehensive medical and social support for injured workers.ObjectivesThis study examines how different factors (e.g., policies, personal efforts, and demographic factors) affect the time it takes for w

BACKGROUND: Cancer patients' return to work is a growing aspect of survivorship care, yet limited studies have been conducted in Korea to understand the work-related experience of cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to understand the unmet needs of cancer patients and identify the necessary factors to develop a vocational intervention program based on cancer patients' work-related experience after cancer diagnosis.
METHODS: Semi-structured individual in-depth interviews were conducted with 50 cancer patients who were working at the time of diagnosis at a university hospital in Seou

The objective of this study was to provide an overview of the prognostic factors for return to work and employment of cancer survivors. Cohort studies were selected if the population consisted of cancer patients between 18 and 65 years of age, with return to work, employment or equivalent concepts as main outcome measure, studying at least one prognostic factor. The methodological quality of the included studies and level of evidence for each prognostic factor were assessed. Twenty-eight cohort studies met the inclusion criteria. Heavy work and chemotherapy were negatively associated with retu
