Effects of Sodium Hypochlorite Concentration and Final Irrigation Protocol on Residual Filling Material in Retreated Oval Root Canals Obturated with a Calcium Silicate-Based Sealer: A Scanning Electron Microscopy Study.

Background and Objectives: Residual filling material may persist on the walls of oval root canals after mechanical retreatment, and the influence of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) concentration and supplementary irrigation procedures on its removal remains unclear. This laboratory study used scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate the effects of three NaOCl concentrations and five final irrigation protocols on residual filling material in retreated oval canals of mandibular premolars. The protocols tested were conventional needle irrigation (CNI), EDDY, passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI),

Midbuccal canals of maxillary molars evaluated by cone-beam computed tomography: endodontic management of two cases.

Maxillary molars present variable root canal and root morphologies. This report describes the endodontic management of two cases of midbuccal canals found in maxillary molars. Midbuccal canals were present in a maxillary first molar with a single buccal root (Case 1), and in a maxillary second molar with three buccal roots (Case 2). An assessment of the internal configuration of these teeth was performed using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Magnification with a dental operating microscope, surgical loupes, and the use of an endodontic explorer enabled the identification of the midbuccal

Endodontic treatment of mandibular molar with root dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system.

Biomechanical preparation of root canals with accentuated curvature is challenging. New rotatory systems, such as Reciproc, require a shorter period of time to prepare curved canals, and became a viable alternative for endodontic treatment of teeth with root dilaceration. Thus, this study aimed to report a clinical case of endodontic therapy of root with accentuated dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system. Mandibular right second molar was diagnosed as asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Pulp chamber access was performed, and glide path was created with #10 K-file (Dentsply Maillefer) a

Periradicular repair after single- and two-visit root canal treatments using ultrasonic irrigant activation and calcium hydroxide dressing of teeth with apical periodontitis: study protocol for randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: In certain clinical situations, root canal treatment in teeth with apical periodontitis is performed in multiple visits, with the use of intracanal dressing between visits, aiming to reduce microorganisms and their by-products of the root canal system prior to filling. However, in recent years, discussions have been growing about the real need for the use of intracanal dressing in these cases. The use of ultrasonic activation of the auxiliary chemical substance has increased the potential for decontamination promoted during the chemomechanical preparation of the root canal. Thus, t

Enhancing Root Canal Therapy with NIR-II Semiconducting Polymer AIEgen and Low-Concentration Sodium Hypochlorite Synergy.

Despite significant efforts to eliminate bacterial biofilm within root canals, achieving effective disinfection remains challenging due to the complex anatomy and limitations of disinfectants. In this study, a second near-infrared (NIR-II) semiconducting polymer with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties, named PIDT-TBT, is deliberately designed and synthesized. This proposes an AIE luminogen-based sterilization strategy in synergy with a low concentration of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO). Water-dispersible PIDT-TBT nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared, demonstrating good biocompatibility, a

Histopathological observations of periapical repair in teeth with radiolucent areas submitted to two different methods of root canal treatment.

Dogs' teeth with induced chronic periapical periodontitis were treated endodontically by two different methods, and the results were compared. A total of 40 root canals from the upper and lower premolars of two dogs were prepared chemomechanically. In method 1, a high-concentration (5.25%) hypochlorite solution was used during the instrumentation of the root canal, and an antibacterial dressing was applied between sessions, followed by filling of the root canal. In method 2, a low-concentration (0.5%) sodium hypochlorite solution was used as an adjunct to mechanical debridement, and the root c

Effect of root canal filling materials containing calcium hydroxide on the alkalinity of root dentin.

The effect of root canal filling pastes containing calcium oxide resp. calcium hydroxide on the alkalinity of extracted human teeth was investigated using a colour indicator (cresol red). An aqueous suspension of calcium hydroxide (Pulpdent), which is normally used for temporary root canal filling, most consistently produced alkalinity. Removal of the smear layer following instrumentation of the root canal led to increased proportion of alkaline-positive spots in dentinal locations distant from the canal. A clearly smaller effect was found with a calcium salicylate cement (Sealapex) and an oil

The unpredictability of seal after post space preparation: a fluid transport study.

A root canal filling remaining after post space preparation is commonly expected to provide adequate seal. Coronal leakage of 30 endodontically treated teeth was measured before post space preparation using a fluid transport assay. In 10 of these teeth post space was prepared, using a two-step procedure, first to a remaining filling of 6 mm and then to 3 mm, with the leakage studied after each step. In 10 teeth the removal was done in one step to a remaining length of 3 mm. The other 10 teeth, with intact root canal fillings, served as controls and were tested twice for leakage. A significant

Cauterization of Narrow Root Canals Untouched by Instruments by High-Frequency Current.

The mechanical removal of bacteria is fundamental to the treatment of infected root canals, but complete sterilization of biofilms tends not to extend to uninstrumented areas. However, during electrical conduction to a root canal filled with a conductor, the higher impedance where the root canal is narrower generates Joule heat that may result in a large temperature increase and sterilization. The effect of a high-frequency electric current on the wall of a simulated narrow root canal was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). Simulat
