Partner perspectives on women's sexual and reproductive healthcare in cystic fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Women with cystic fibrosis (CF) face many sexual and reproductive health (SRH) concerns. Studies suggest that educating and involving partners in SRH care can improve outcomes. This study investigated partners' perceptions of and preferences for women's SRH care in CF. METHODS: We surveyed partners of women with CF from ten United States (U.S.) CF centers regarding their attitudes and preferences related to CF SRH care. Items assessed experiences with SRH care, sexual relationships, family planning, pregnancy, fertility, and parenthood. We used descriptive statistics to assess res

Sexuality in male partners of women with fibromyalgia syndrome: A qualitative study.

The aim of our study was to understand how male partners of women diagnosed with fibromyalgia syndrome perceive sexuality. Gadamerian hermeneutic phenomenology and the Roy Adaptation Model provided the overall framework for this research study. Eighteen participants were recruited through convenience and purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted between February and July of 2017 and included a focus group and twelve in-depth interviews. Two main themes were extracted: "facing a new sex life" and "resisting the loss of the couple's sexuality". Fibromyalgia syndrome compromises the coupl

Perception of partner sexual history: Effects on safe-sex intentions.

OBJECTIVE: Sexual intercourse is a dyadic activity, and intentions to engage in safe sex vary across partners. Because pregnant and newly parenting adolescents and young adults are at high risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), it is important to understand sexual decision-making in this population. METHOD: This cross-sectional study examined how participants' own risk behavior and their partners' risk behavior influence perceptions of partner risk, and the impact of risk perceptions on condom use intentions and monogamy intentions in 296 pregnant adolescent and young adult couples

Partner Services in Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention Programs: A Review.

BACKGROUND: Partner services have been a mainstay of public health sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention programs for decades. The principal goals are to interrupt transmission and reduce STD morbidity and sequelae. In this article, we review current literature with the goal of informing STD prevention programs. METHODS: We searched the literature for systematic reviews. We found 9 reviews published between 2005 and 2014 (covering 108 studies). The reviews varied by study inclusion criteria (e.g., study methods, geographic location, and infections). We abstracted major conclusions and

Strategies for partner notification for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

BACKGROUND: Partner notification (PN) is the process whereby sexual partners of an index patient are informed of their exposure to a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and the need to obtain treatment. For the person (index patient) with a curable STI, PN aims to eradicate infection and prevent re-infection. For sexual partners, PN aims to identify and treat undiagnosed STIs. At the level of sexual networks and populations, the aim of PN is to interrupt chains of STI transmission. For people with viral STI, PN aims to identify undiagnosed infections, which can facilitate access for their sex

Strategies for partner management when treating sexually transmitted infection.

Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea are the most commonly reported bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States, and reinfection accounts for 14% to 30% of all reported cases of these STIs. Treatment of both the woman and her partner is imperative to prevent long-term sequelae. This report examines the clinical course of a woman diagnosed with Chlamydia during pregnancy, and reviews various approaches to treating partners, including patient referral, provider referral, patient-delivered partner therapy, and accelerated partner therapy.

Sexual histories of heterosexual couples with one HIV-infected partner.

Ninety-eight heterosexual couples enrolled in a HIV transmission study, at least one of whom was HIV-infected, were interviewed about sexual behavior. Although males and females were interviewed separately, there was agreement between them on the number of sexual contacts, the practice or anal intercourse, and condom use. These findings of strong reliability are encouraging, but do not necessarily imply that the data are valid.

Age disparity in couples and the sexual and general health of the male partner.

INTRODUCTION: Several robust epidemiological studies suggest that men are often engaged in sexual relationships with younger women with a variable, age-dependent age difference. However, the ageing process determines a significant worsening of the andrological status, which favors the onset of erectile dysfunction and hypogonadism. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the effects of differences in age between the partners [delta (Δ) age (M - F)] on patients referring to the Andrology Unit of Careggi University Hospital for male sexual dysfunction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A monocentre cohort of 4055 male su

Global prevalence of non-partner sexual violence against women.

Sexual violence against women is a human rights violation and public health concern, with serious implications for women's physical and mental health. Reducing non-partner sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault and other forms of non-contact sexual abuse, is one of the main indicators of the sustainable development goals. World Health Organization estimates, based on available prevalence data from 137 countries between 2000 and 2018, showed that, globally, 6% of women aged 15-49 years reported experiencing sexual violence in their lifetime from someone other than an intimate partner,

Approach to Managing Sex Partners of People with Sexually Transmitted Infections.

Partner management of sexually transmitted infection (STIs) is essential to identify and treat new cases, prevent reinfection in the index case, interrupt chains of transmission, reduce STI-related morbidity, and target STI screening and treatment interventions. The responsibility for partner notification and treatment falls on the health care provider. Approaches to partner management include patient referral, provider referral, contractual referral, and expedited partner therapy (EPT), with EPT and enhanced partner referral outperforming other methods. This article provides an overview of cl

The effect of penis size on partner sexual satisfaction: a literature review.

Larger penis size has been associated with a sign of strength, masculinity, and social standing. Little study has examined the relationship between men's penis size and their partners' sexual satisfaction. The purpose of the present study was to detail and evaluate the effect of penis size on partner sexual satisfaction with a design of narrative literature review. A systematic search of MEDLINE/PubMed was conducted to discover relevant studies on this issue. Currently, available studies show incomplete results between the penis size and partners' sexual satisfaction and are limited by methodo

Partner influences on young women's risky drug and sexual behavior.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent girls with a history of maltreatment are at heightened risk for health-risking behaviors, including unsafe sexual behaviors and drug use. However, few studies have examined the views of this population in regard to sexual partner choice, sexual behaviors, and decisions to use drugs with sexual partners. METHODS: We conducted 15 semistructured, open-ended qualitative interviews with young women ages 18-24 with a history of maltreatment and asked them to reflect on their experiences as adolescents. We used the constant comparison method to group the qualitative coded data

Inter-partner and Temporal Variations in the Perception of Sexual Risk for HIV.

This study uses longitudinal qualitative methods to examine how gay and bisexual men perceive sexual risk across both a variety of partners and across time. Over ten weeks, participants completed three quantitative personal relationship diaries (PRD) describing sexual encounters during that time period. Participants then completed a timeline-based individual in-depth interview to unpack the PRD data. Participants used multiple factors to determine their own sexual risk (e.g., type of sex, partner concurrency, emotional connections), which often resulted in inconsistencies in defining sexual ri

Sexual intimate partner violence as a form of MST: An initial investigation.

Military sexual trauma (MST) is known to impact women's health, but little is known about the occurrence of MST perpetrated by a past or current intimate partner. This study identified the occurrence of intimate partner violence (IPV)-related MST in a sample of female veterans. We also examined the associations between MST history (no MST history, IPV-related MST, and MST by a nonintimate partner) and mental and physical health symptoms. Participants were 369 female veteran patients of Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) facilities in the New England region of the United States who completed a

Intimate Partner Sexual Violence: A Review of Terms, Definitions, and Prevalence.

Intimate partner sexual violence (IPSV) is a significant aspect of intimate partner violence (IPV). While intimate partners commit one third of sexual assaults, IPSV is often overlooked in studies about IPV and in research on sexual violence. There are difficulties identifying, defining, and measuring IPSV, and research lacks consistency in terminology and measurement. The purpose of this article is to review the terms, definitions, and measurements associated with IPSV. Academic journals and nonscholarly documents from the United States were searched for articles and reports associated with t

The early childhood sexual experiences and collusion in adult partner relationship.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present research was verification of the hypothesis for the influence of negative sexual experiences in sexual development on the quality of partner relationships in the adult life. Special attention was given to the influence exercised by the level of erotization in the environment of the family of origin and to the experience of child sexual abuse. The quality of partner relationships was recognized using Jurg Willi's concept through the analysis of intensity of dysfunctions (collusions) in those relationships. METHODS: The study was conducted on a population of 1

A night with Venus: partner assessments and high-risk sexual encounters.

This study examined partner assessments and high-risk sexual encounters among STD clinic patients. Participants were 42 English-speaking attendees of a public STD clinic in Southern California with ages ranging between 18 and 60. Twelve focus groups were conducted. Qualitative data from the focus groups were analyzed using grounded theory. The analysis resulted in delineating five temporally-ordered stages of causal sexual encounters. Participants reported that they did not use condoms when they perceived new sexual partners as being safe. Instead of directly addressing their partner's sexual
