Sialadenitis in a patient with ulcerative colitis and autoimmune pancreatitis type 2.

Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a distinct form of chronic pancreatitis that has been increasingly recognised over the last decades and shows a good response to corticosteroid treatment. Two different forms of AIP have been characterized. Type 1 AIP is the pancreatic manifestation of IgG4-related disease and often affects multiple organ systems. In contrast, type 2 AIP is confined to the pancreas and involvement of extra-pancreatic organs has previously only very rarely been reported, except for an association with inflammatory bowel disease. The hallmark lesion of type 2 AIP is the granulocy

[Application of ultrasonography scoring system in the assessment of IgG4-related sialadenitis].

OBJECTIVE: To assess the diagnostic value of salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) for IgG4-related sialadenitis. METHODS: Ultrasonography examination of major salivary glands was conducted for 48 IgG4-related sialadenitis patients and 50 Sjögren's syndrome patients, whose ages and disease duration were matched. The imaging features were graded using two different scoring systems (0-16 and 0-48, respectively) obtained from the grades of bilateral parotid and submandibular glands. The scores were used to further evaluate the features of salivary gland ultrasonography in IgG4-related sialadenit

A new category for chronic sclerosing sialadenitis as an IgG4 related syndrome.

This report presents three cases of IgG4 related sclerosing disease complicated with chronic sclerosing sialadenitis. The clinical, radiographic and pathologic findings later suggested that the patients had chronic sclerosing sialadenitis. The submandibular gland tumour regressed in two patients. These patients were suspected to have Mikulicz's disease or Sjögren's syndrome, but the diagnostic criteria were not satisfied. The workup for chronic sclerosing sialadenitis revealed a significantly elevated value of serum IgG4. The patient was then diagnosed with IgG4 related sclerosing disease comp

[Ductal carcinoma of the parotid gland with the clinical picture of obstructive sialadenitis].

Salivary duct carcinoma is a highly malignant tumor. Pain, facial nerve palsy, perineural and lymphatic invasion are common findings, as well as an extensive cervical lymph node involvement and distant metastasis. However, occasionally, as in the case presented, the clinical features of this tumor may resemble obstructive sialadenitis and thus cause a delay in appropriate treatment. Although salivary duct carcinoma exhibits an unpredictable clinical course and a poor overall prognosis, total parotidectomy with neck dissection and adjunctive radiation therapy appear to be appropriate for local

Subacute necrotizing sialadenitis: report of 7 cases and a review of the literature.

Subacute necrotizing sialadenitis (SANS) is a nonspecific inflammatory condition of unknown etiology affecting oral minor salivary glands. The lesion is most often characterized by a localized palatal swelling, accompanied by an abrupt onset of pain. In this report, we describe the clinical, microscopic, and ultrastructural features of 7 new cases of SANS and combine them with those of 15 cases previously published in the English language medical literature. Patient ages ranged from 15 to 45 years, with a mean age of 21.9 years. A male to female ratio of 3.4 to 1 was observed, but probably ref

Cavernous hemangioma in the submandibular gland masquerading as sialadenitis: case report.

This report describes a case of cavernous hemangioma in the submandibular gland of a 37-year-old Irish woman. The lesion clinically and radiologically (as shown both by plain radiographs and computed tomography imaging) resembled salivary calculous disease. Numerous phleboliths were present in the hemangioma. The rarity of a cavernous hemangioma in such a location and its simulation of salivary calculous disease stimulated us to report the case.

Atypical IgG4 related hypophysitis revealed by submandibular sialadenitis: a case report.

Objective. IgG4-related disease is a fibro-inflammatory multisystemic condition with lesions mimicking tumors. Involvement of the hypophysis is rare and the first case of IgG4-related hypophysitis was described in 2004. Typically, it is revealed by sellar mass effects, hypopituitarism, and diabetes insipidus. In the present paper, we report a case of IgG4-related hypophysitis revealed by submandibular sialadenitis. Case Report. The subject was a 52-year-old patient presented with swelling of the submandibular gland. His complaints were decreased libido, anorexia, and weight loss for three mont

Immunohistochemical analysis of pyroptosis-related protein expression in IgG4-related sialadenitis.

BACKGROUND: NLRP3 (NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing protein 3)-induced pyroptosis is involved in the development of a variety of autoimmune diseases, but its role in IgG4-related sialadenitis (IgG4-RS) is unclear. METHODS: Salivary gland tissues from 19 patients with IgG4-RS were designated the experimental group, and peritumoral tissues from 20 patients with benign salivary gland tumours were designated the control group. The cell morphology and fibrosis in the IgG4-RS samples were observed by haematoxylin-eosin (H&E) and Masson trichrome (MT) staining. Immunohistochemical (IHC) staini

A case of acute bilateral iodine-induced submandibular sialadenitis: Ultrasound findings.

Acute sialadenitis is a rare adverse reaction to iodine-based contrast agents. Ultrasound (US) is usually the preferred imaging method to evaluate the salivary glands; along with clinical and anamnestic data, US allows the diagnosis of contrast-induced sialadenitis. We present a case of acute bilateral submandibular sialadenitis induced by intravenous administration of iodine-based contrast media for a contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan diagnosed by US.

RORγt antagonist improves Sjögren's syndrome-like sialadenitis through downregulation of CD25.

OBJECTIVE: We reported previously that T-cell-specific RORγt-transgenic mice under human CD2 promoter (RORγt-Tg mice) developed severe spontaneous Sjögren's syndrome (SS)-like sialadenitis, induced by RORγt-overexpressing CD4+ T cells and reduced regulatory T cells. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effectiveness and mechanisms of action of A213, a RORγt antagonist, in RORγt-Tg mice with SS-like sialadenitis. METHODS: Six-week-old RORγt-Tg mice were administered orally of A213 or phosphate-buffered saline every 3 days for 2 weeks. We analyzed saliva volume, histopathology of saliva

Sialendoscopy in Chronic Obstructive Sialadenitis Without Sialolithiasis: A Prospective Cohort Study.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate long-term chronic sialadenitis symptoms in patients without sialolithiasis following sialendoscopy-assisted salivary duct surgery (SASDS) compared to a control group managed conservatively. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING: Tertiary care center. METHODS: Thirty-six patients (52 glands) with chronic sialadenitis without sialolithiasis completed the Chronic Obstructive Sialadenitis Symptoms (COSS) questionnaire at presentation and at 3-month time intervals thereafter for 1 year. Lower COSS scores represent lower symptom severity. We compared 27 patients

Acute Transient Sialadenitis - "Anesthesia Mumps:" Case Report and Review of Literature.

Acute postoperative sialadenitis, called "anesthesia mumps," has been reported in different surgical procedures. It is usually benign in nature, and the swelling resolves spontaneously without any treatment in the majority of cases. The attending physician should be aware of this transient condition. Very rarely, serious complications can occur such as respiratory distress warranting urgent intervention. We report a case of acute transient sialadenitis in a 6-year-old child who underwent general anesthesia for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which resolved spontaneously without any treatment
