Sacroiliac pain after total hip arthroplasty: a combined analysis of clinical data and three-dimensional imaging in standing and sitting positions.

PURPOSE: Patients frequently complain of low back pain and sacroiliac joint pain (SIP) following total hip arthroplasty (THA). We hypothesized that patients with SIP would display different pelvic incidence (PI) values between standing and relaxed sitting positions, indicative of increased motion in the sacroiliac joints. METHODS: In this retrospective case-control study, 94 patients who underwent unilateral THA and experienced SIP were compared with 94 control patients without SIP. SIP was confirmed through clinical tests and investigated using biplanar imaging in both standing and sitting p

Different arm positions and the shape of the thoracic spine can explain contradictory results in the literature about spinal loads for sitting and standing.

STUDY DESIGN: Loads acting in vivo on a vertebral body replacement (VBR) and the shape of the back were measured. OBJECTIVE: To find an explanation for the contradictory results in literature regarding spinal loads for sitting and standing. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: In several in vivo studies, the intradiscal pressure was shown to be higher for sitting than for standing. However, stadiometric measurements, load measurements on internal spinal fixators, and 1 study on intradiscal pressure have shown contradictory results. It therefore remains unknown whether sitting or standing causes great

Comparison of inspiratory and expiratory airway volumes and luminal areas among standing, sitting, and supine positions using upright and conventional CT.

Upright computed tomography (CT) provides physiologically relevant images of daily life postures (sitting and standing). The volume of the human airway in sitting or standing positions remains unclear, and no clinical study to date has compared the inspiratory and expiratory airway volumes and luminal areas among standing, sitting, and supine positions. In this prospective study, 100 asymptomatic volunteers underwent both upright (sitting and standing positions) and conventional (supine position) CT during inspiration and expiration breath-holds and the pulmonary function test (PFT) within 2 h

Platypnea-orthodeoxia Syndrome Due to Right Ventricular Inflow Tract Obstruction Caused by an Elongated Ascending Aorta: Usefulness of Three-dimensional Cardiac Computed Tomography Imaging in the Sitting Position.

An 84-year-old woman presented with dyspnea in the sitting position. Platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome (POS) was suspected based on arterial desaturation when her posture changed from the supine to the sitting position. Transesophageal echocardiography showed right-to-left shunting enhancement through a patent foramen ovale (PFO) in the sitting position. Three-dimensional (3D) cardiac CT in the sitting position revealed that the elongated ascending aorta compressed the right ventricular inflow tract, resulting in restricted blood flow to the right ventricle and increased right-to-left shunting. Facial Nerve Function and Quality of Resection in Large and Giant Vestibular Schwannomas Surgery Operated By Retrosigmoid Transmeatal Approach in Semi-sitting Position with Intraoperative Facial Nerve Monitoring.

INTRODUCTION: Large and giant vestibular schwannomas pose a real problem in their management. The preservation of facial nerve function may limit tumor resection despite the use of intraoperative monitoring of the facial nerve. In Algeria, vestibular schwannomas represent 5% of all intracranial tumors operated on, 80.5% of which are large or giant. METHODS: From January 2010 to December 2015, 151 large and giant vestibular schwannomas were operated in our department. Tumor diameter was between 30 and 60 mm. The most common presenting symptom was hearing loss, which was observed in 41.66% of a

Differences in timing and magnitude of lumbopelvic rotation during active and passive knee extension in sitting position in people with and without low back pain: A cross-sectional study.

Repetitive lumbopelvic rotation (LPR) during active limb movements has been indicated as a factor that contributes to low back pain (LBP). Prior studies suggest that people with LBP demonstrate greater and earlier LPR during limb movements in prone. We examined timing and magnitude of LPR during sitting active knee extension in people with and without LBP. We also investigated differences of LPR during active and passive knee extension in LBP group. 38 men (mean age: 38.4)10.6) years) with chronic mechanical LBP and 38 matched healthy men (mean age: 36.6(8.4) years) were examined. Analysis of sagittal alignment changes in the spine-pelvis joint in sitting and standing positions after long- or short-segment fixation to the pelvis for lumbar degenerative diseases.

BACKGROUND: The spine, pelvis, and joints maintain sagittal balance, which is often disrupted in lumbar degenerative diseases. While preoperative changes in sagittal alignment are well studied, postoperative adaptations, particularly following spinal fixation extending to the pelvis, are less understood. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine sagittal changes in the spine, pelvis, and joints in sitting and standing positions after short- or long-segment posterior spinal fixation extending to the pelvis.
