Currently, research on N6-methyladenine (m6A) is extensive in the field of oncology, while studies involving m6A and skin diseases remain relatively limited. Based on existing reports, we searched PubMed and Web of Science for literature related to m6A and dermatological conditions. Analysis of citation counts and journal impact factors revealed a significant upward trend in the volume of m6A-related research. Term frequency analysis of titles and abstracts indicated that studies mainly focus on skin tumors and inflammatory or immune-related skin diseases, particularly melanoma, psoriasis, and

Autoimmune bullous diseases (AIBDs), including pemphigus and pemphigoid, are featured as the presence of autoantibodies directed against structural proteins, resulting in severe blistering as well as considerable morbidity. Current treatments, including glucocorticoids, immunomodulators, and biologics, often fail to achieve sustained remission due to high relapse rates and significant adverse effects. This review explores the pathophysiology of AIBDs, focusing on autoreactive B and T cells, inflammatory mediators, and immune dysregulation. Existing therapeutic limitations are then analyzed, an

Langerhans cells (LCs) are the key antigen-presenting cells in the epidermis in normal conditions and respond differentially to environmental and/or endogenous stimuli, exerting either proinflammatory or anti-inflammatory effects. Current knowledge about LCs mainly originates from studies utilizing mouse models, whereas with the development of single-cell techniques, there has been significant progress for human LCs, which has updated our understanding of the phenotype, ontogeny, differentiation regulation, and function of LCs. In this review, we delineated the progress of human LCs and summar

The microbiome and gut-skin axis are popular areas of interest in recent years concerning inflammatory skin diseases. While many bacterial species have been associated with commensalism of both the skin and gastrointestinal tract in certain disease states, less is known about specific bacterial metabolites that regulate host pathways and contribute to inflammation. Some of these metabolites include short chain fatty acids, amine, and tryptophan derivatives, and more that when dysregulated, have deleterious effects on cutaneous disease burden. This review aims to summarize the knowledge of weal

In contrast to the obligatory paraneoplasias, which are usually rare, diseases such as Sweet's syndrome, thrombophlebitis or herpes zoster are more common. But they are less frequently associated with neoplasia. The risk of overlooking an associated neoplasm is therefore greater. In this article, prototypic diseases are presented with their clinical appearance, possible pathogenesis and treatment options; this is accompanied by raising awareness of potential associations with cancer. The emphasis on the distinct features of the neoplasm-associated forms should enable more reliable detection of

Autoinflammatory syndromes are characterized by an exaggerated activation of the innate immune system and frequently present with skin symptoms. In contrast to autoimmune disorders no specific autoantibodies or autoreactive immune cells are detected. Thus, the diagnosis is usually difficult and can only be made by a careful interpretation of anamnestic, clinical and laboratory parameters. In some hereditary autoimmune syndromes specific genetic mutations are described and can be helpful for the diagnosis. For treatment of these disorders both classic immunomodulatory drugs and specific cytokin

The correct interpretation of skin manifestations can facilitate the diagnosis of many rare systemic diseases. Such manifestations can be due to autoimmune diseases (e.g. dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis and sarcoidosis) and metabolic diseases (e.g. Anderson-Fabry disease and porphyria cutanea tarda). Other cutaneous symptoms are of great importance because they are possible warning signs of occult diseases of internal organs. This is true for example for some diseases from the group of neutrophilic dermatoses, such as Sweet's syndrome and pyoderma gangraenosum

Inflammatory granulomatous dermatitides include cutaneous sarcoidosis, necrobiosis lipoidica, granuloma annulare, and reactive granulomatous dermatitis. The etiopathogenesis of these disorders is not well understood; but the T helper 1 response mediated by interferon-gamma, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and interleukin (IL) 1, 2, and 6 and the T helper 17 response mediated by IL-17 play a role. These inflammatory granulomatous disorders often have cutaneous manifestations in addition to extracutaneous manifestations or associations with systemic diseases. The authors review these disorders, pro

The complement system is a fundamental part of the innate immune system, playing a crucial role in host defense against various pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Activation of complement results in production of several molecules mediating chemotaxis, opsonization, and mast cell degranulation, which can contribute to the elimination of pathogenic organisms and inflammation. Furthermore, the complement system also has regulating properties in inflammatory and immune responses. Complement activity in diseases is rather complex and may involve both aberrant expression of complement

Atopic dermatitis is a common chronic pruritic inflammatory skin disorder, characterized by an abnormal skin barrier, immune dysfunction, and an altered skin microbiome. Atopic dermatitis may be seen in conjunction with a variety of other skin disorders due to the complex pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis, involving genetic and environmental factors that are associated with immune dysfunction, barrier defects, and altered skin microbiomes. Skin disorders associated with atopic dermatitis include diseases sharing similar genetic origins like ichthyosis vulgaris, infectious diseases such as impe

Granulomatous disorders affecting the skin belong to a heterogeneous group of diseases, which were predominantly classified based on pathogenetic features. In infections diseases a granuloma is formed if an agent could not be eliminated by the immune system. Typical agents which cause granulomatous reactions are mycobacteria, fungal infections, especially extra European agent, which could effect the skin by, dissemination (e.g. histoplasmosis) or parasites, like leishmaniasis.

Ocular complications of infectious skin diseases are a common occurrence. Managing the inflamed or infected eye in the emergency setting presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the emergency physician. Infectious agents may affect any part of the eye. Ocular findings may be the first sign of many infectious diseases, such as, for example, gonorrhea or chlamydia infection. Understanding the various forms of ocular involvement in these conditions is important, because untreated ophthalmic involvement can lead to severe vision loss. This review focuses on the significant ocular manifes

Autoimmune skin diseases are characterized by dysregulation of the immune system resulting in a loss of tolerance to skin self-antigen(s). The prolonged interaction between the bacterium and host immune mechanisms makes Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) a plausible infectious agent for triggering autoimmunity. Epidemiological and experimental data now point to a strong relation of H. pylori infection on the development of many extragastric diseases, including several allergic and autoimmune diseases. H. pylori antigens activate cross-reactive T cells and induce autoantibodies production. Microbi

The skin is often a window to systemic disease that is available to the trained eye of the dermatologist. Herein, we focus on four dermatoses with associated systemic conditions of interest: scleromyxedema and monoclonal gammopathy, nephrogenic systemic fibrosis in the setting of renal insufficiency, dermatitis herpetiformis and celiac disease, and psoriasis as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Dermatologists can play a crucial role in recognizing the cutaneous manifestations linked with these conditions. Identifying the related underlying disorder will contribute to appropriate diagno

OBJECTIVES: There are no known reports of the frequency of skin diseases endemic to rural Yucatan, Mexico. The aim of this study was to report the prevalence of dermatologic conditions in rural villages in that region.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of all cases of skin disease diagnosed by a team of American board-certified dermatologists during consultations in January 2009, August 2009, and June 2010, in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. Traveling clinics were held in eight different rural locations. Age, sex, and diagnosis, according to history and physical examinatio

Phototherapy is used for the medical care of cutaneous conditions that do not respond to topical or systemic medical agents, and for conditions that require broad exposure to UV as a stabilizing agent for disease. Numerous wavelengths and delivery devices of ultraviolet light are used in childhood. This article is a brief overview of the medical usage of phototherapy in childhood. In the neonatal nursery blue light (459-460 nm) is used to reduce bilirubin levels and prevent kernicterus. While psoralens and UVA (PUVA) has been demonstrated to be efficacious in a variety of pediatric skin condit
