[Neuropathy of the obturator nerve as a source of pain in soccer players].

Chronic inguinal and lower abdominal pain in high-performance athletes is common and often disabling problem. Diagnose and treatment is often difficult due to many anatomic structures in the inguinal and groin region that have the potential to cause pain. We report 52 cases of a chronic groin pain in soccer players due to fascial entrapment of the obturator nerve. All patients presented clinical symptoms and signs of post exercise groin, lower abdominal or medial tight pain and adductor muscles weakness and paresthesia in cutaneous distribution of medial thigh. Except clinical signs in the dia

Pathologic fracture of the femoral neck in a female soccer player.

We report a case of a healthy, young, female soccer player who developed progressive pain in her right hip. A bone cystic lesion was found in the right femoral neck and proximal femur. The lesion was considered a benign bone cyst and the patient was treated with injections of autologous bone marrow and grafting into the femoral neck. However, the cystic lesion did not heal. Subsequently, the patient fell and developed a fracture of the femoral neck that required internal fixation. The bone biopsy showed characteristic histologic features of fibrous dysplasia. A bone scan showed other areas of

[Surgery for groin and lower abdominal pain in soccer players].

We treated 57 professional soccer players with groin and lower abdominal pain, 44 of them successfully, using conservative methods and 13 by surgery. Because of its anatomical site, the gracilis muscle is involved in almost all movements of the femur. It therefore is frequently involved in injury due to overuse, especially at its insertion (enthesopathy). In all 13 operated on, the gracilis was cut percutaneously, sometimes as a single procedure and sometimes with concomitant sportsmen's inguinal hernioplasty. All except 1 of those operated on returned to their professional sport activities.

Myositis of the hip in a professional soccer player. A case report.

Myositis in the hip joint is a rare entity in sportsmen. Repeated trauma or massage can be detrimental. Successful outcome depends upon the recognition of mature, well-organized new bone, and full excision. Best results can be obtained by performing surgery on a biologically sound joint which contains no trace of active or latent inflammation. The joint should be immobilized till the soft tissue trauma has completely healed. Rehabilitation must be in stages.

Full duodenal rupture after direct abdominal trauma in soccer: a case report of an elite soccer player with follow up and return to play protocol.

Severe traumatic abdominal injuries and duodenal ruptures are relatively rare in soccer and can be easily missed and turn into a life-threatening condition. All team physicians need to be familiar with the warning sign in these situations. This report aims to report a case, discuss the diagnostic and treatment process and the return to play protocol.During a professional female soccer team training session, the injury occurred while the player's epigastrium was hit hardly by the opponent's knee. In the first evaluation, there was only mild epigastrium pain without any other sign. Eventually, p

Pelvic Rotation Mechanism in Soccer Instep Kicking Toward Angled Directions.

The purpose of the present study was to clarify the dynamic factors that induce pelvic rotation when soccer players kick a ball toward angled directions using an instep kick. Nine experienced, right-footed, male soccer players instep kicked a stationary ball in 3 different angled directions, 15°, 45°, and 75° relative to the run-up direction, and a motion capture system with a force plate recorded the kicking data. Kinematic and kinetic variables of the support leg, associated with pelvic rotation about the vertical axis, were compared among the kicking conditions. The pelvic rotation signific

Quantified Head-Ball Impacts in Soccer: A Preliminary, Prospective Study.

Repetitive, sub-concussive head impacts have been associated with increased chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) incidence. CTE diagnosis traditionally relies on postmortem examination, which limits precise correlation between cause and effect. This prospective study embraced innovative diffusion magnetic resonance imaging, which enables in vivo quantification of acute, subacute, and chronic changes in brain tissue microstructure. This approach was used to evaluate changes in white matter microstructural status at intervals up to 180 days following a specified soccer heading protocol. This s

Exploring Sex-Based Variations in Head Kinematics During Soccer Heading.

While studies indicate that females experience a higher concussion risk and more severe outcomes in soccer heading compared to males, comprehensive data on the underlying factors contributing to these sex-based differences are lacking. This study investigates the sex differences in the head-to-ball impact kinematics among college-aged soccer headers in a laboratory-controlled setting. Forty subjects (20 females, 20 males) performed ten headers, and impact kinematics, including peak angular acceleration and velocity (PAA, PAV) and peak linear acceleration (PLA), were measured using mouthguards.

Spontaneous Pneumomediastinum Resulting From Passionate Cheering at a Soccer Match.

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum is a rare and self-limiting clinical entity, often triggered by activities causing acute changes in intrathoracic pressure such as childbirth, strenuous exercise, vomiting, and coughing. We present a case of a young male soldier who developed spontaneous pneumothorax following persistent yelling while attending a soccer match. Spontaneous pneumomediastinum may be preceded by a variety of strenuous activities, and clinicians should be aware of this entity when performing the evaluation of patients with nonspecific symptoms such as chest pain and dyspnea. Patients d

Reduction in Substance-Related Composite Harm Scores Through Street Soccer.

Introduction Street soccer makes the sport accessible to people affected by homelessness or precarious housing. There is overwhelming evidence that exercise improves physical and mental health. In addition, sport facilitates positive peer pressure that leads to beneficial life changes. Method To examine participants' accounts of the effects of street soccer in a sample of socially disadvantaged players from Western Canada, we collected 73 cross-sectional self-reports of life changes via a questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions on social, mental, and physical health, including subs

Mapping the youth soccer: A bibliometrix analysis using R-tool.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the scientific production of youth soccer. However, a panoramic map of research on this subject does not exist. The aim of this study was to identify global research trends in youth soccer over time, among the main levels of analysis: sources, authors, documents, and keywords. The bibliometric software Biblioshiny was used to analyze 2606 articles in Web of Science (WoS) published between 2012 and 2021. The main conclusion is that US and UK scholars dominate the research; the topics of research are changing with the real needs, and research on the
