The regulation of social factors on anxiety and microglial activity in nucleus accumbens of adolescent male mice: Influence of social interaction strategy.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence is a period characterized by a high vulnerability to emotional disorders, which are modulated by biological, psychological, and social factors. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. METHODS: Combining physical or emotional social defeat stress (PS and ES) and pair or isolation rearing conditions, we investigated the effects of stress type and social support on emotional behavior and central immune molecules in adolescent mice, including anxiety, social fear, and social interaction strategies, as well as changes in microglia-specific molecules (io

Studies from 2000 up to April 2026 were searched using PubMed, Science Direct, and Web of Science. The included research focused on loneliness and social isolation, along

RESULTS: After anal

Social context factors and disparities in emergency department use in pediatric food allergy.

Background: Although disparities in food allergy (FA) related emergency department (ED) use exist, social context factors are understudied and may play an important role. Objective: We sought to evaluate the role of food security and community resources in explaining disparities in FA-related ED usage. Methods: Electronic medical record data from Hasbro Children's Hospital's FA clinic were extracted from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2021, for children ages < 18 years. Diagnostic classification codes and chart reviews were used to identify encounters with immunoglobulin E (IgE) mediated FA-

Social Factors Influencing Decision-Making in Intracerebral Haemorrhage: A Survey among Neurology Professionals.

INTRODUCTION: Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) is the most severe type of stroke characterized by high morbidity and mortality rates. While prognostic scales aim to predict outcomes based solely on medical information, clinicians' assessments may be influenced by patients' social factors, potentially resulting in inequitable care. METHODS: A cross-sectional study using a vignette-based survey presenting five pairs of fictitious ICH cases (10 total) was distributed to professionals involved in ICH patient care. Each pair included identical medical data and a comparable computed tomography scan.

Early risk factors related to social functioning in young adults born very preterm.

BACKGROUND: Individuals born very preterm (VPT; <32 weeks' gestation) are at a greater risk of poorer social outcomes than individuals born at term. However, it remains unclear which subgroups of individuals born VPT are at greater risk of lower social functioning later in life. This study aimed to describe the medical, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and environmental risks in childhood for lower social functioning in early adulthood among young adults born VPT. METHODS: Participants were assessed on social functioning domains at age 20 years (N = 123) and risk factors were assessed at bir

Risk and Protective Factors for School Absence among Youth with Minoritized Social Identities.

Youth with marginalized racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender identities experience bias and stigma in schools that relate to school absences, disengagement, and pushout and may impact learning and achievement over time. Using data from 9th-12th graders who participated in the 2019 Minnesota Student Survey (N=80,456) and the 2017-2019 California Healthy Kids Survey (N=512,067), we used Exhaustive Chi-Square Automatic Interaction Detection (ECHAID) to explore how experiences of bias-based bullying and teacher caring were related to general absences, safety-related absences, and grades among youth

Social and Behavioral Factors Associated With Diabetes in Southern California vs the US.

IMPORTANCE: Diabetes disproportionately impacts communities across the US and in Southern California, where there is a large Hispanic population. Diabetes prevalence continues to increase, and more studies are needed to understand behaviors and socioecological factors contributing to diabetes risk regionally and nationally. OBJECTIVE: To identify social and behavioral correlates (SBC) of diabetes in Southern California and to contrast these findings with national data to help ensure that public health strategies are appropriately targeted and regionally responsive. Interpersonal protective factors for LGBTQ+ youth at multiple intersecting social identities and positions.

Interpersonal supports are protective against multiple negative health outcomes for youth such as emotional distress and substance use. However, finding interpersonal support may be difficult for youth exposed to intersecting racism, heterosexism, and cisgenderism, who may feel they are "outsiders within" their multiple communities. This study explores disparities in interpersonal supports for youth at different sociodemographic intersections. The 2019 Minnesota Student Survey includes data from 80,456 high school students, including measures of four interpersonal supports: feeling cared about

Coping, social support and medical factors on psychosocial impact in couples experiencing infertility.

This study assessed dyadically the relationship between psychosocial impact of infertility experienced by 87 couples and individual coping strategies, perceived social support and some medical factors. Although problem-focused strategies emerged as positive, certain side effects on partner were revealed. Social support was related to psychosocial outcomes in a positive way, cognitive component of coping strategies resulted as a prominent factor on individual's adjustment as well as the partner's role. Findings suggest the convenience of promoting the awareness about the effects of each partner

Canine parasitoses in north Patagonia (Argentina): comparison between different social and environmental factors.

In many countries, urban areas are commonly contaminated with canine feces that spread parasites, a situation related to the natural and social environment. Dogs having free access to public areas therefore constitutes a health risk. Because in Patagonia there are no records of city comparisons that consider the number of free-roaming dogs and the local environmental and socioeconomic characteristics, in this study we analyse and compare canine parasitoses in two cities of Rio Negro province, Argentina. Canine feces were collected from public areas of El Bolsón and Cipolletti cities and examin

Follow-up After Burn Injury Is Disturbingly Low and Linked With Social Factors.

For medical and social reasons, it is important that burn patients attend follow-up appointments (FUAs). Our goal was to examine the factors leading to missed FUAs in burn patients. A retrospective chart review was conducted of adult patients admitted to the burn center from 2016 to 2018. Data collected included burn characteristics, social history, and zip code. Data analysis was conducted using chi-square, Wilcoxon Rank-Sum tests, and multivariate regression models. A total of 878 patients were analyzed, with 224 (25.5%) failing to attend any FUAs and 492 (56.0%) missing at least one appoint

A review and agenda for integrated disease models including social and behavioural factors.

Social and behavioural factors are critical to the emergence, spread and containment of human disease, and are key determinants of the course, duration and outcomes of disease outbreaks. Recent epidemics of Ebola in West Africa and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) globally have reinforced the importance of developing infectious disease models that better integrate social and behavioural dynamics and theories. Meanwhile, the growth in capacity, coordination and prioritization of social science research and of risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) practice within the current pand

Social media as an emerging tool for reducing prescription opioid misuse risk factors.

Interventions are urgently needed to reduce prescription opioid misuse risk factors, including anxiety and concomitant use of sedatives. However, only a limited number of randomized controlled opioid intervention trials have been conducted. We sought to determine whether an online behavior change/support community, compared to a control Facebook group, could reduce anxiety and opioid misuse among chronic pain patients. 51 high-risk non-cancer chronic pain patients were randomly assigned to either a Harnessing Online Peer Education (HOPE) peer-led online behavior change intervention or a contro

Early Psychological and Social Factors Explain the Recovery Trajectory After Distal Radial Fracture.

BACKGROUND: This prospective study identified the association of demographic, injury, psychological, and social variables, measured early during recovery, with limitations in function (measured by the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Upper Extremity Physical Function Computer Adaptive Test [PROMIS UE]) at 6 to 9 months after a distal radial fracture. Additionally, we assessed variables associated with the PROMIS UE; the abbreviated version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (QuickDASH); the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE); and the 3-Le
