Thirty-three anterior staple capsulorrhaphies of the shoulder were reviewed at an average 49.7 months postoperatively (range 12 to 127 months); one postoperative dislocation occurred. Temporary hemiepiphysiodesis (HED) is applied to children and adolescents to correct angular deformities (ADs) in long bones through guided growth. A survey of the current surgical practice for patients with a pharyngeal pouch was conducted among general surgeons, otolaryngologists and cardiothoracic surgeons in England and Wales. Our results show that while pouch excision remains the most common method used, endoscopic stapling diverticulotomy is rapidly being adopted. The reasons why this recently introduced technique is likely to become the definitive treatment of pharyngeal pouch are discussed.

CASE HISTORY: Medical records of two veterinary hospitals in Canada were reviewed to identify cases of dogs that underwent liver lobectomy via open laparotomy using the Endo GIA surgical stapling device with a vascular cartridge (height of open and closed staples: 2.5 and 1.0 mm, respectively) between January 2016 and June 2018. BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic partial splenectomy (LPS) is an effective method for resecting benign splenic lesions while maintaining physiological splenic function.1,2 The primary surgical challenge is controlling hemorrhage during parenchymal transection. Although previous studies have highlighted the success of bipolar electrothermal devices, and microwave ablation in this phase,3-5 we introduced a novel technique integrating ultrasonic dissection with linear stapling technology. This approach occludes major intraparenchymal vasculature during transection, improving both safety and efficiency.

BACKGROUND: Gastro-jejunostomy (GJ) after pylorus-resecting pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is most commonly performed in a hand-sewn fashion. Intestinal stapled anastomosis are reported to be as effective as hand-sewn in terms of patency and risk of leakage in other indications.
