Mood states and disease activity in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus treated with bromocriptine.

We tested mood states in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) treated with the prolactin-lowering drug, bromocriptine. Bromocriptine was given to seven patients in an open-label study to test its effects on active SLE. Two independent measures of SLE activity, the SLE Activity Measure (SLAM) and the SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI), were scored and the Symptom Questionnaire (SQ) mood survey was administered at entry and at 6 monthly follow-up visits. The SLAM and SLEDAI scores improved significantly during treatment. Two of the four mood scales in the SQ (Anxiety Scale and Anger

Online self-test identifies women at high familial breast cancer risk in population-based breast cancer screening without inducing anxiety or distress.

INTRODUCTION: Identifying high familial breast cancer (FBC) risk improves detection of yet unknown BRCA1/2-mutation carriers, for whom BC risk is both highly likely and potentially preventable. We assessed whether a new online self-test could identify women at high FBC risk in population-based BC screening without inducing anxiety or distress. METHODS: After their visit for screening mammography, women were invited by email to take an online self-test for identifying highly increased FBC risk-based on Dutch guidelines. Exclusion criteria were previously diagnosed as increased FBC risk or a pe

Validation of the Korean version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 self-rating Scale.

This study examined the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale. The GAD-7 was standardized with data from 112 patients at a psychiatric outpatient clinic. The GAD-7 revealed high internal consistency, good test-retest reliability, and convergent validity. The ROC analysis resulted in poor sensitivity and specificity for detecting anxiety disorders in a psychiatric setting. The GAD-7 may not be useful in diagnosing anxiety disorders in a psychiatric setting, even though it appears to be a reliable, efficient, and valid measurement tool

The relationship between anxiety and problematic mobile phone use among Chinese college students: a moderated mediation model.

BACKGROUND: Mobile phones have emerged as a pivotal medium for internet access among college students in China. However, excessive usage of mobile phones, leading to problematic mobile phone use (PMPU), has adverse effects on both their physical and mental health. Anxiety is associated with PMPU among college students, yet the mechanisms remain unclear. This study examines whether the fear of missing out on social media (FoMO-SM) and physical exercise mediates this relationship. METHODS: This study utilized a convenience sampling method to assess anxiety, PMPU, FoMO-SM, and physical exercise

The Influence of Math Anxiety, Math Performance, Worry, and Test Anxiety on the Iowa Gambling Task and Balloon Analogue Risk Task.

Multiple studies have shown that performance on behavioral decision-making tasks, such as the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BART), is influenced by external factors, such as mood. However, the research regarding the influence of worry is mixed, and no research has examined the effect of math or test anxiety on these tasks. The present study investigated the effects of anxiety (including math anxiety) and math performance on the IGT and BART in a sample of 137 undergraduate students. Math performance and worry were not correlated with performance on the IGT, and no va
