Unusual extrahepatic metastatic site of hepatocellular carcinoma with post-therapy disseminating metastases presenting as a primary soft tissue sarcoma: case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly malignant primary hepatic tumor. However, extrahepatic metastatic sites of HCC with post-therapy dissemination of metastases mimicking primary soft tissue sarcomas with rib metastases are extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: The authors report a unique case of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-positive HCC with bilateral lung involvement and widespread right-flank soft tissue and rib metastases. The pathological diagnosis after surgical resection confirmed extrahepatic HCC metastasis. Subsequently, adjuvant-targeted and immune-checkp

Neoadjuvant Radiation Therapy and Surgery Improves Metastasis-Free Survival over Surgery Alone in a Primary Mouse Model of Soft Tissue Sarcoma.

This study aims to investigate whether adding neoadjuvant radiotherapy (RT), anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) antibody (anti-PD-1), or RT + anti-PD-1 to surgical resection improves disease-free survival for mice with soft tissue sarcomas (STS). We generated a high mutational load primary mouse model of STS by intramuscular injection of adenovirus expressing Cas9 and guide RNA targeting Trp53 and intramuscular injection of 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA) into the gastrocnemius muscle of wild-type mice (p53/MCA model). We randomized tumor-bearing mice to receive isotype control or anti-PD-

Machine Learning-Guided Survival Prediction and Treatment Sequencing in Advanced Soft Tissue Sarcoma Beyond Second-Line Therapy: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Evidence guiding the optimal sequencing of later-line systemic therapy in advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) remains limited. The aim of this study was to identify prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) beyond second-line treatment and to explore therapy sequencing in routine clinical practice. METHODS: A total of 90 patients with advanced STS receiving third-line or later systemic therapy were retrospectively analyzed. Extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) was used to identify clinical predictors of 1-year OS. The most influential variables were subsequently evaluated in mu

A preliminary investigation into the impact of soft tissue augmentation-based periodontal phenotype modification therapy for patients exhibiting class III decompensation.

BACKGROUND: Patients with skeletal angle Class III malocclusion usually have inadequate hard and soft tissue volume at the mandibular anterior teeth. The labial proclination at the teeth may lead to gingival recession. The purpose of this study was to explore whether periodontal phenotype modification therapy with soft tissue augmentation (PhMT-s) can prevent gingival recession in these patients. METHODS: Four patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and a thin periodontal phenotype underwent surgical-orthodontic treatment. Prior to tooth movement, they underwent a minimally invasive ves

Dermal Fenestration With Negative Pressure Wound Therapy: A Technique for Managing Soft Tissue Injuries Associated With High-Energy Complex Foot Fractures.

Military casualties can sustain complex foot fractures from blast incidents. This frequently involves the calcaneum and is commonly associated with mid-foot fracture dislocations. The foot is at risk of both compartment syndrome and the development of fracture blisters after such injuries. The amount of energy transfer and the environment in which the injury was sustained also predispose patients to potential skin necrosis and deep infection. Decompression of the compartments is a part of accepted practice in civilian trauma to reduce the risk of complications associated with significant soft

Distally based saphenous neurocutaneous perforator flap combined with vac therapy for soft tissue reconstruction and hardware salvage in the lower extremities.

The complex wound with the exposed hardware and infection is one of the common complications after the internal fixation of the tibia fracture. The salvage of hardware and reconstruction of soft tissue defect remain challenging. In this report, we presented our experience on the use of the distally based saphenous neurocutaneous perforator flap combined with vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) therapy for the coverage of the soft tissue defect and the exposed hardware in the lower extremity with fracture. Between January 2008 and July 2010, seven patients underwent the VAC therapy followed by transf

Pathological response after neoadjuvant therapy in soft tissue sarcoma: A systematic review of its association with local recurrence, distant metastasis, and survival.

Histopathological response after neoadjuvant therapy is an established prognostic marker in bone sarcoma, but its significance in soft tissue sarcoma remains uncertain. We systematically searched PubMed, Embase and CENTRAL through July 3, 2026 for studies evaluating the association between pathological response and oncological outcomes in adults undergoing neoadjuvant treatment and surgery for localized soft tissue sarcoma. Risk of bias was assessed using QUIPS and certainty of evidence using GRADE. Nineteen studies comprising 2346 unique patients were included. Pathological complete response

Moderate hypofractionated radiation therapy and pathologic response for soft tissue sarcomas (STS) of limbs and trunk: experience from a tertiary cancer center.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative radiation therapy following by limb-sparing or conservative surgery is a standard approach for limb and trunk STS. Data supporting hypofractionated radiotherapy schedules are scarce albeit biological sensitivity of STS to radiation would justify it. We sought to evaluate the impact of moderate hypofractionation on pathologic response and its influence on oncologic outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From October 2018 to January 2023, 18 patients with limb or trunk STS underwent preoperative radiotherapy at a median dose of 52.5 Gy (range 49.5-60 Gy) in 15 fractions of 3.5

Agreement among RTOG sarcoma radiation oncologists in contouring suspicious peritumoral edema for preoperative radiation therapy of soft tissue sarcoma of the extremity.

PURPOSE: Peritumoral edema may harbor sarcoma cells. The extent of suspicious edema (SE) included in the treatment volume is subject to clinical judgment, balancing the risk of missing tumor cells with excess toxicity. Our goal was to determine variability in SE delineation by sarcoma radiation oncologists (RO). METHODS AND MATERIALS: Twelve expert ROs were provided with T1 gadolinium and T2-weighted MR images of 10 patients with high-grade extremity soft-tissue sarcoma.
